The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 43: Almost with her
Result in hand and heartbeat pounding, Chris stared at the result again. There was no doubt. He folded the result and kept it in his pocket. It was an important document he wasn’t willing to lose.
Picking up his jacket, he knew he needed to leave the mansion.
Just as he also knew there was someone who also deserved to know that June was fine. Or more importantly, he needed to know that he had found June.
He opened the door to see Amie waiting with a box in her hand. She was about to knock on the door when he opened it.
Chris’s eyes narrowed at the gift stretched toward him. And his mind registered just one word: bribe.
She really knew what she was doing.
Without thought, he pushed the gift away from his front and locked his office door. With an enemy indoor, they needed to be careful.
Amie stared at him as he left the mansion without as much as a backward glance at her.
Just like every other day recently, Chris insisted on leaving the mansion alone. He wasn’t ready to compromise the information he had just gotten.
He drove straight to the hotel Rauf had been staying in.
The receptionist didn’t blink as he stormed off towards the elevator that led to the penthouse.
The last time he had come over, it was to fight Rauf over his sister without having any idea how wrong he was.
Oh! He was very wrong.
On getting to his door, he knocked softly.
Immediately, the door opened.
Rauf stood on the other side of the door with bloodshot eyes, rough hair, and a bit leaner than usual. He looked like a person who had stopped taking care of himself.
When his gaze stopped on Chris, he hissed. "Oh! It’s you." Disappointment filled his voice. He thought Chris was here to say more things about Amie.
Rauf was probably expecting his men to bring information.
Chris nodded. "Yes, it’s me." He welcome himself into the room.
The room that had once been organized now looked more or less like a dumpster. The bed desperately needed to be arranged, and the room itself would do good with an air freshener.
Rauf returned towards his bed when Chris dropped the message he wasn’t expecting.
"I found your wife."
He froze.
For five good seconds, he didn’t move, then suddenly turned towards Chris.
"June?" His voice was filled with skepticism.
Chris nodded, dropping into the vacant chair. The same chair he had sat in to listen to his tale about how his wife had changed suddenly.
"Yes. June Trevor. My sister."
Rauf’s mouth opened.
"Your sister?"
Chris nodded eagerly. It took a lot of words and patience to keep Rauf sitting to listen to Chris’s story when all he wanted to do was leave for the clinic.
The dog he had brought with him and named Bingo had come to his side.
By the time Chris was done, Rauf’s fingernails were digging deep into his palm.
"How dare Samir?" he asked.
Then he shook his head.
"How dare Amie? She wasn’t satisfy pretending to be my wife, but also pretended to be June’s mother daughter. She played them perfectly."
Chris nodded.
"It’s a good thing we found out earlier before Mother is too attached to her. All I need to do now is inform Mother, and she would be thrown out of the mansion."
Rauf bit his lips. He remembered the tears that had rolled down June’s eyes while begging him that she was his wife.
"Do you think throwing her out of the mansion is enough punishment?"
Chris shook his head.
"No. But her mere presence disgusts me, and I would never ever raise my hand on a woman."
"I know, but I think we should let her have a dose of her own medicine. Do not let her know you already know the truth. Bit by bit, we make her feel the same pain June did before stripping her of everything she and Samir ever had."
"That should be easy," Chris said.
Rauf shook his head.
"Samir Trevor is a cockroach. No matter how you try to drag him down, he would always find another way to stand. We have to cut every one of his connections too."
Chris sighed.
"If it’s to get justice for my sister, I’m ready."
A few minutes later, Rauf left Chris in his hotel room as he drove out towards the clinic Chris had told him about.
His foot never left the accelerator as he drove to the clinic. He was driving way above the speed limit.
Rauf vividly remembered bringing Bingo to the clinic for treatment, but he hadn’t met June.
He could hardly believe she had been that close to him while he was searching for her.
He swerved his car away from those driving too slowly in his presence as he pressed harder on the accelerator.
This should have happened weeks ago, but yet he still anticipated the look on her face when she saw him.
Rauf drove in front of the clinic with so much force that his car left traces of smoke in hitsxwake.
He had asked Chris to give him her home address, but he had claimed the only place he knew was the clinic.
After that, he had warned him about what he was going to do to him if he ever made her shed tears again.
As if he was ever going to see tears on her face again.
If ever he made her cry again, then he must be seriously mad.
He opened the door, and the silence in the clinic mocked him.
This was the second time he was visiting the clinic only to be met with silence.
"Hello!" he screamed into the space.
He had no plan of leaving the clinic until he had seen June.
Again, the smaller door that led to another room in the clinic opened, and the short, bald man came out.
He smiled at Rauf, and when he didn’t see anything in his hand, he asked, "How can we be of service to you, sir? Are you willing to adopt..."
But his words were cut off as Rauf asked, "Where’s June?"
Andy’s lips formed a thin line.
"Who are you? And how did you know June?"
Rauf could feel his hand turning white. He had gripped it so hard that he couldn’t feel the circulation of blood in that area.
"I’m her husband. Where’s June?"
Andy frowned at him, staring him up and down.
In the few weeks he had known June, she was hardworking and ready to learn eagerly.
"I’m sorry, sir, but you’re in the wrong shop here. There’s no married June here."
Rauf didn’t have the time to play the game Andy was playing.
"I have no time for this. Can you call her out for me?"
This time, Andy shook his head.
"Already told you, the person you’re looking for is not in this clinic. Maybe it’s some other clinic."
Rauf glared at him, but Andy only stared back at him.
"Fine. I want to see the unmarried June." If that was all he had to say to see June, he didn’t mind saying it at all.
Andy’s jaw tightened.
"I’m sorry, sir, but June is absent from the clinic today."
"What?" he asked in shock. "Do you have her home address?"
Andy sighed.
"I wish I could tell you, but I also don’t know where she lives."
Rauf looked like he was about to punch Andy.
Normally, Andy would avoid this sort of scene. But June had been nothing but good ever since she started working at his clinic.
Sometimes, she covered for him if he couldn’t come to the clinic. He also wanted to do something for her, apart from the daily advice he usually gave her.
"See, I think June won’t be at home if you go over there. She’s at the hospital."
Again, he screamed.
"Hospital? What’s she doing at the hospital? Is she sick? Or did something happen to her?"
Andy stared at him in disbelief.
Out of all the questions he had been asking, he continued worrying about her.
How couldn’t he ask about his baby?
A look of disgust temporarily filled Andy’s face. And then the realization that she might not have told him hit him.
If June didn’t tell Rauf, he was in no place to tell him.
So, he kept quiet.
"Answer me!"
Andy sighed.
"I have no idea what’s wrong with her."
Instead of relief, Rauf felt his heartbeat increase.
"When will she be here? I don’t mind waiting."
Andy shrugged.
"She’s on a temporary leave. Sir. It might take some time for her to resume."
He knew June would resume the next day, but it seemed she didn’t want to see him yet. So, helping her avoid him for a bit was nothing wrong.
Seeing that he wouldn’t get anything more out of the man, Rauf stalked out of the clinic.
He stared into nothing as he sighed.
Now that he had found her, how was he supposed to wait a week again before setting his eyes on her?
It felt like the universe was playing a game on him.
But he tried to calm himself. "Soon, my dear. I’m going to see you soon, Mami."
