The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 41: Another DNA result
"I’m ready for my eye surgery. I want to see everything that’s happening around me, including my baby."
Not a lot of things surprise Chris, but he stopped, looking his mother in the eyes. "Are you sure, Mother?"
Serena patted his back playfully. "Of course, I am."
Chris nodded. He had been waiting for her to make that decision. She had promised that once they found her daughter, she would get the operation done. "I’ll book an appointment."
At the end of the day, they had to leave the mansion with two different cars. Amie and Serena were in one, while he drove June in his own car.
The cars stopped in one of the finest shopping malls in New Central State. It was where Serena used to shop for everything she needed before she went blind.
"Come on, it’s time to have some fun," Chris whispered to June.
But all she did was stare at the mall. With the rate things were going for her, she knew she could hardly afford anything in this mall.
She felt like an imposter standing at the mall. The people passing by glanced at her before moving on their own.
She really stood out here, just like how Amie had said.
A look of satisfaction was on Amie’s face as she watched her.
Yet, June let Chris lead her behind Serena and Amie. They passed through some of the smaller brands until they got to a glass shop.
Everything in the shop was mostly glass. Glass windows and doors, even the shelves their clothes were hanging on were glass. And everywhere June stepped in the shop, her reflection stared back at her as if it were mocking her.
One of the sales girls caught sight of them and ran towards them. "Good day, ma..." Her eyes trailed to Chris before adding, "Sir. Do you need the private room?"
"Good day," Serena responded, her voice calm. "I’ve an appointment with Dave. Let him know Vassari is here."
At the mention of the name, the lady bowed lower. "Okay, ma. You can have a seat while I go call him." She pointed towards the only couch in the room and ran off towards a door that was also made of glass.
While waiting for the owner, Amie started browsing through the clothes. She moved them flawlessly, and with each design she touched, the more she wanted it. These are the sort of dresses one gets once in a lifetime.
Her hand was pulling one of the dresses when an older man with bald hair came running into the store. The moment he laid eyes on Serena, his eyes widened in excitement, and he bowed. "Good day, Serena. How long has it been?"
Serena’s response was a smile.
Excited to see her again, he ushered them into his office, the sales girls staring at their retreating figures. The owner of the store had never treated anyone with such familiarity.
He asked them to sit and even thought of offering them refreshments before asking, "What do I owe this pleasant visit?"
Serena nodded. "This is my daughter, Amie." She looked around for Amie with her hand to show her off.
Immediately, Amie took position beside her.
"I want you to make a custom dress for her. A one-of-a-kind dress. I want it perfect on her and flawless."
Dave was an international designer. He barely attended to just anyone, and he had a long list of people who wanted to wear his designs but were not deemed worthy by him.
But Serena was different. She could get anything she wanted from him. Dave nodded. "Okay, ma."
Amie couldn’t hide the excitement of wearing a brand like Dave.
Then Serena remembered the argument about June’s clothes she had heard. "And let me see your bestseller."
Dave made a call, and a sales girl came back with a long blue dress.
The dress looked like something from a fairytale, and June stared at it.
"Give it to the other girl beside my son," she added.
"Okay, ma."
The sales girl dropped the dress for June.
She stared at it as if it were contaminated. "No. No, I can’t have this."
Chris bent so he could whisper to her. "You can buy anything you want in this shop, just let me know what you want. And remember, this is my payment for what I have done for you."
After they left Dave’s office, they continued the shopping. Amie kept throwing dresses into the hand of the sales girl moving after her.
June picked one more dress, so that Chris wouldn’t nag her about why she wasn’t taking more.
Before they left, Dave took Amie’s measurements, and Chris insisted he take June’s too.
The shopping went like that. Chris made sure June had almost everything, if not everything Amie had.
The constant need to buy June everything she bought brought annoyance to Amie. But there was nothing she could do about it. She didn’t want to get into any fight with Chris.
She still needed to mend their relationship.
Once they were done shopping, bags in hand, Chris insisted on dropping June at her place with the promise he would come back with her bags.
Once she was in the car, away from the prying eyes of Amie, she thanked Chris.
Chris waved it off like it was nothing. Then he touched her hair all of a sudden.
June flinched.
"There’s something on your head."
With that, she waited for him to pull it off. Chris pulled some of her hair with it.
"There, gone." He smiled at her.
Finally, he had gotten the sample for the DNA test. He pocketed the hair and drove off.
The ride back to downtown was silent. Both were lost in their thoughts.
If the DNA test came back positive, it meant June was his mother’s daughter. And probably the wife of Rauf.
Once he saw the result, he would have to show Rauf.
Then he could think of what to do to Amie. She needed to be punished for what she did.
Having developed a little trust in Chris, June finally showed him the way to her place.
Earlier, she had sent a message to Ellie that she would be back soon.
Ellie was waiting outside the apartment, with her hands under her breasts like a mother about to reprimand her child.
But every word she wanted to say was lost in her throat when Chris got out of the car.
Oblivious to who was looking at him, he turned to the other side and helped June with the door.
June thanked him before her eyes moved to Ellie, who was staring at him.
June chuckled. "Chris, this is my best friend, Ellie. And Ellie, this is..."
"I know," she interrupted, her eyes still on Chris. "It’s a pleasure to meet you," she said.
Chris nodded. "It’s nice to meet you, too. I wish I could stay, but there’s something I have to do."
And with that, he was gone.
Ellie stared at his back until the car drove off. Then she turned towards June. "Wow. He’s really hot. I swear the media doesn’t do him justice at all."
Then her gaze landed on the bags in front of June. "Come in, I will help you."
But on getting back home, the realization that her mother was not there hit her more. A sudden wave of sadness hit her. Now, she was back to just her and her baby.
"Thank you. I need to rest."
Instead of going back home, he drove straight to the hospital to drop off the samples. Thankfully, he had gotten some of his mother’s hair too while he was consoling her.
"I want this as soon as possible."
Just as he was about to leave the hospital, his phone beeped with a message from his personal assistant.
’Mr Trevor messed up the deal.’
It was simple as that, but he knew what he meant.
After his mother handed over the drug licensing to Samir, Chris had asked his assistant to get him an update on everything that had to do with the deal.
He smiled at the text.
Then sent an okay to the guy. He needed to do some cleaning up.
Junox headquarters was an underground beneath their most prestigious hotel. No one would suspect a thing. They thought they came over to relax at the hotel.
Chris drove to the hotel like someone with fire on his pants.
Men were underground, most of them smoking and drinking, and testing one another’s strength. Each bowed when Chris passed in front of them.
The drug licensing deal was supposedly the biggest deal recently. It was the biggest because every difficulty in it had been dealt with. The forces had been tipped. They were the ones who opened the route to import and export it easily.
But Samir had messed up something that easy.
He removed every Junox involvement from the deal.
They had never seen or heard anything about drug licensing.
Chris was so busy that he didn’t have time to do other things. When it was late, he excused himself and went back home, leaving his personal assistant, Ciao, to handle the rest of the things he had to do.
Even for a night owl like Chris, he couldn’t help but fall asleep when he got back at the mansion. With three consecutive days of being stressed, his body collapsed on the bed from heavy stress.
The next morning, he claimed he was busy. But the truth was he didn’t want to have breakfast with Amie.
He felt Serena’s head turn towards him, and he knew she had an idea something was wrong. All the more reason he needed to find out the truth before it was too late.
He retired to his office at home. His head was still pounding from stress.
He needed to rest.
A soft knock on his door made him turn his gaze sharply towards it. "Come in."
One of the guards came in, bringing the same envelope he had received the previous day.
This time, his heart pounded in fear.
If June wasn’t his sister, then he was back to square one.
Again, he ignored all the medical jargon and went straight to the result.
99.9 percent.
He did not need to read the verdict under it.
There was no doubt anymore. June was his sister.
