The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 35: Meeting Again
After breakfast, Chris slide out of the mansion with the pretense that he was going out for some work.
"We’re going to be busy too." Serena replied with her hand wrapped on Amie’s neck. She had invited the best designer over, so they could make a dress Amie would wear on her welcome party. She wasn’t ready for her daughter to wear anything less the Vassari’s name.
Chris nodded, waving them goodbye while slipping a card into Amie’s hand. "You can get anything you want without mother knowing." He whispered to her.
"I can hear that." Serena said with a smile.
But Chris was already out of the door and soon out of the mansion.
He drove to one of the best hospital he knows, but it wasn’t the family hospital. He didn’t want anyone alerting Serena about what he was about to do.
"I want it done as soon as possible, and I want it sent directly to me." Chris ordered the doctor.
The doctor nodded, assuring him that he would send it soon.
Having gotten that out of his way, Chris let out a sigh.
He wanted to be anywhere but home where his conscious would be pricking him over what he had done. He couldn’t look his mother in the eyes after everything.
Just then, June’s face flashed over his eyes and a small smile took over his lip. He got back into his car and drove to June’s working place.
Just like always, he awaits the look on her face once she sees him at the clinic. Everytime it brings pleasure to him to see her looking at him in such a surprising manner.
When he got to the clinic, it was already opened and inside was the short man, the owner of the clinic.
Andy forced a smile on his face when he saw Chris standing at the door. "Welcome, Mr Vassari. How can we be of service to you, sir?"
As soon as he said those words, June came out of the inner room carrying a heavy box with her. With a small frame, he could barely see anything but her face as she hugged the box over herself.
"Don’t bother. I need Miss June service."
June dropped the box, looking from Andy to Chris.
"Fine. You can go with Mr Vassari."
June smiled at Andy, leaving the clinic with Chris right in front of her.
Once they were out of earning shot, she stopped and turned back towards him. "Is it now?" She asked, her eyes gleaming with hope.
Chris smiled at her. "Good day to you, too, Miss June."
June didn’t bother to correct him. She only waited for his response. "So? I thought you were supposed to come during the weekend."
Chris nodded. "Yeah. But I thought the sooner you are able to find out, the sooner you can take your mind off it."
June nodded, too eagerly. It was as if Chris could read her mind. Ever since he had promised to bring her to the mansion, she had always been awake very early. She comes to the shop in hope that it would be the day Chris come again.
And then she closed very late.
"I already told my sister and my mother about your visit. You can come over and spend the night, so you could have enough time to search for what you’re looking for."
June could barely believe her ears. "You don’t mind me sleeping over?"
"Of course, you’re no longer a stranger to me. You’re Milo’s saviour. I bet he would be excited to see you too."
"Of course, Milo will be." She joked. "Can you come pick me up this evening? I will be waiting here."
Chris frowned. He wanted to know more about June, willingly of course. He didn’t want to find out by himself. "I can come pick you up from your place."
June shook her head. "No. I’ll right here." She responded, hiding her face from him.
Seeing there was no point rushing to know her, Chris let go off it. "No problem. I’ll be back to pick you up."
The rest of the day was a blur between completing her task and watching Andy’s point out the treatment he was issuing on the animals.
By the end of the day she was quick to leave the clinic and back to the house.
Ellie was lying on the bed, her laptop opened in front of her as she noted things down on her note beside her.
Not wanting to disturb her, June pulled a small bag out and started putting her essential for the day. She added her prenatal drugs. And wrote down a note to tell Ellie she was finally going over to look for her mother.
But as she lifted the bag up, she saw Ellie staring at her with her laptop closed already.
"Where are you going to?" She asked her with her brow raised so high, it was a miracle that it didn’t disappear into her head.
A small smile appeared on June’s lip. She had been hiding the joy front he moment Chris had come over, but she could no longer hide it from Ellie. "I am going over to the address."
Ellie didn’t need to ask what address, she knew what address she was talking about. Ellie jumped on the bed. "Really? Are we going today?" She asked.
June should have known Ellie would want to go with her. "No, I’m actually going alone."
Ellie’s gaze moved to the clock before turning back to June. "This late at night."
"I’m sleeping over. I should be back by tomorrow afternoon, then we will know if my mother is there or not."
The whole situation was that easy to June. The biggest obstacle she had thought was getting into the mansion, but Chris had made that very easy for her.
Instead of the smile she expected from Ellie, she was frowning at her. "You want me to leave you to go to a mafia home, alone. This late. With my goddaughter." She stopped at each words to put emphasis on them.
June only stared at her in return. She was fine with her going with her, but the moment she realised June was going alone, she was no longer fine with it.
"See, June, you can leave tomorrow morning. It’s enough time to find your mother. There’s no point sleeping over there."
June sighed. She could tell Ellie was only concerned about her, but this was equally important.
"Don’t worry, Ellie. Chris don’t seem like a bad guy, and you have the address. Just like you said, maybe he’s a good mafia."
Ellie rolled her eyes, but at least she allowed June leave the room with the promise that she would be in touch with her every hour.
June left the house with a heavy heart and hope floating all over her body.
If she could find her mother, her family was already complete. She didn’t need Rauf or any other man in her life.
She walked down to the spot she had promised Chris was was going to wait. Ellie followed behind her like a guard.
A black car was already waiting for her on the spot.
Chris opened the car for her once she got to his side with a smile on his lips, too. "I hope you find what you’re looking for."
June nodded.
Soon, he dropped off the street. June watched Ellie watching them until she begin to appear smaller as the car drove further. She watched Ellie disappeared before she fixed her gaze back on Mike.
"Is something wrong?" Chris asked.
She shook her head. "I’m fine. I guess it’s just the nerves."
He chuckled. "You’ll be fine. I can assure that those working at the Vassari’s mansion are trustworthy people. So, if your mother is indeed one of them, you have nothing to be scared of."
The words were supposed to ease her tension, but it did directly the opposite for June. She could feel her heart beating crazily as they drove away from the downtown into the areas with more better building and expensive cars that June doesn’t see everyday.
June knew they were already in the rich men part of the city. It was just best for her to act according.
She sat up in the car, adjusting her seatbelt. Her eyes wandered once or twice to a Chris and she forced a smile at him. She didn’t want him to know she was very nervous.
She wanted to be composed in front of him.
"Don’t worry about anything, dear. Even if you didn’t find your mother at our place, you’ll feel better knowing you tried your best." Chris said.
He had always say those exact what to Serena whenever she moan over the disappointment of not seeing her daughter.
Soon, they were driving into the mansion.
June stared at the mansion, but didn’t have enough time to appreciate it as she ran after Chris who was already moving into the mansion.
Just followed him as fast as she could until they were in the living room where two women were speaking to each other.
June stopped beside Chris and when the women turned to look at Chris, June’s and Amie’s eyes widened as they looked at each other.
