At this point, Dante’s interest had picked up. He leaned closer, putting his phone on loudspeaker while listening to Rinzo’s report.

"So, what do you have on them?" He almost sounded bored.

"Sir, I learned that this gang is actually the leading gang in Kansas, and recently, they’ve started moving their operations to New Central State."

Dante frowned.

"If they’re the leading gang in Kansas, why do they have to move to New Central State?"

"I have no idea, sir," Rinzo replied.

"Okay. Apart from that, were you able to find out who heads the gang, since you were able to find out about their operations?"

There was silence on the other side of the phone.

Then Rinzo said the name.

It was unexpected.

"Sir, it’s Rauf Salvador."

Rauf Salvador, Dante thought.

Wasn’t he the same man who was currently married to Amie and had served her divorce papers?

He had already thought Rauf was bold enough to divorce the Vassari’s daughter, but now, again, this...

The same man who was close to June, who was probably carrying his child.

Now this same man was interfering with his business.

At first, he had decided to ignore everything that had to do with Rauf since it wasn’t connected to the Vassaris, and he had no feud with him.

But now, he couldn’t ignore it.

"Rinzo, I want you to find out everything about Rauf Salvador. I want to know the reason he relocated to New Central State. I want to know exactly what his relationship is with June Trevor and Amie Trevor."

"Yes, sir."

Rinzo’s response was immediate.

Dante gently relaxed in his chair after ending the call.

It seemed there was something sketchy about Salvador, and he was going to uncover it.

June was relaxing on the chair when she felt someone tapping her feet.

She waved the hand away from her leg, not wanting to open her eyes. She was enjoying her sleep, but the hand continued tapping her repeatedly.

After a while, June groaned and forced herself to open her eyes.

Fleur was staring down at her with a confused expression.

"What?" June asked, almost angrily.

Recently, she had been finding it difficult to get a good night’s rest, so she had been taking naps in the afternoon.

Those nap periods were almost precious to her.

"Ma’am, someone is here asking for the boss."

"The boss?" June repeated, still feeling sleepy. "Who is it?"

"She claims to be the boss’s mother."

At that, every trace of sleep vanished from June’s eyes.

Elena.

What could she be doing here?

Ever since Rauf sent her to the guesthouse, she hadn’t come to pay a visit. Not even once.

"Where is she?" June asked, not seeing Elena anywhere nearby.

"She’s in the other living room," Fleur said.

"What about Rauf?"

"He went out to handle some business deals," Fleur responded.

June almost let out a groan.

Why?

Why did he have to go out at this particular moment?

But she didn’t say any of that aloud. Instead, she gave Fleur a small nod.

"Okay. Tell her I’ll be out soon."

With a little bow, Fleur left her presence.

June dragged herself up and went outside. Soon, she was in the other living room.

Elena looked smaller than June remembered.

Could it be that she had lost some weight recently?

She also looked like she had dark circles under her eyes.

For a moment, June almost felt pity for her, but when she remembered everything Elena had put her through, she threw that pity out of the window.

If Elena thought she could mess with her, then she was in for a treat.

June was going to show her that she wasn’t the same girl Elena once knew.

Immediately Elena saw her, her expression changed to one of disgust.

Her gaze moved slowly over June’s body, stopping exactly at her stomach.

"Oh, you’re still here with your bastard," Elena said.

At the mention of her child, June clenched her fist beside her.

"If my baby is a bastard, then you’re the grandmother of a bastard."

Elena hadn’t expected June to speak back to her.

In all the five years June had spent with Rauf, not once had she ever spoken back to Elena.

"You!" she shouted. "I can see you’re getting bold now because you’ve been whoring yourself out to your sister’s husband."

June smirked.

If Elena thought she was going to crumble from an insult like that, then she needed to upgrade her dictionary.

"I’m sorry, but the last time I checked, I was the one beside him at the altar."

Elena moved closer, raising her hand.

She wanted to hit June, but before her hand could collide with June’s cheek, June grabbed her wrist tightly.

"Don’t you dare. I won’t let you lay a finger on me. Not ever."

She pushed Elena’s hand away.

The older woman staggered backward unexpectedly.

Just then, the door behind them opened.

Elena saw Rauf coming in and immediately dropped to the floor, letting out a loud scream.

"What? Is it because my son chose you over me? Now you’re planning to kill me, June? What do you want? The Salvador wealth?"

Rauf stepped into the room.

His gaze moved slowly over June and then back to his mother.

He hadn’t expected Elena to be in the house, especially not in the condition she was in.

"What’s going on here?" he asked, his voice unusually soft.

But that soft voice sent more goosebumps over June’s body than when he was angry.

Instantly, Elena jumped up and dusted off her clothes. She moved closer to Rauf.

"She pushed me," she said. "I want you to throw her out of this house, Rauf. She’s taking advantage of your generosity."

June remained silent.

She didn’t say a word as she watched him.

If Rauf wanted to throw her out of the mansion because of his mother, he was more than welcome to do so.

She wasn’t going to beg for something she didn’t do.

Instead of doing what Elena expected, Rauf turned to his mother.

"Mother, if there’s anyone who needs to leave here, it would be you."
