"Anything."

June could feel the man breathing on her neck as she asked him to drop the dog.

"Okay. But I need you to step back while I check the wound." June said.

The man frowned at her like she just asked an abomination. "You want me to step back." He chuckled. "You’re not even a doctor. I need to see everything going on. I need to see how well you plan on treating Milo."

June huffed. "Fine. If you don’t want me to treat your dog. You can as well take your leave."

The dog whimpered, and June leveled her gaze as if to blame the man for the pain it was currently going through.

Then after a while he sighed. "Fine. Treat him. But if anything happens to Milo..." He let the rest of the word hang like a threat.

June almost rolled her eyes. After living with Rauf for five years, she had become accustomed to threats like that. It was one of the things Rauf did at the begining of their relationship.

She examined the dog leg, a hint of pity washed over her for the animal. Then she proceeded to treat it the way she had seen the vet does.

Although she was only an assistant in the establishment, she made sure to pay attention whenever the doctor was working.

After an hour of intense treatment she finally cleared off the sweat on her forehead.

Milo was resting now.

"How was it?" The stranger asked.

"Let Milo rest a bit and you can finally take him home."

The man didn’t say a word, but June could tell that he had finally calmed down.

His gaze trailed over her, stopping at her finger briefly before moving up back to her face. "Thank you for treating Milo."

June shrugged. "It’s meant we do here. The lives of every animal is important."

"I’m Chris by the way. It’s a pleasure to meet you." He said, placing his hand out for a handshake.

June rolled her eyes. "I’m not interested."

Her focus was barely on her unborn child and her life. She didn’t care if he was Chris or not.

Chris chuckled. "Come on. It’s not bad knowing the name of my baby’s saviour."

By now, June was done packing all that she needed to pack. And she believed, Milo had rested enough. "Well, you can take Milo home now. I’ll advice you come back tomorrow so the vet could prescribe some drugs for Milo.

Chris nodded, finally taking the sleeping dog. "How about I get your number, saviour?"

"How about you get out?" June responded.

Chris respond was a smile, but he finally left with Milo sleeping in his hand. He placed the dog carefully in the back seat before turning to the driver’s seat.

As soon as he left, June let an exasperated sigh. She had only tried, but she was glad she was of help to Milo.

"Who is that fine ass that just left?" A voice said behind her as she was closing the door.

June rolled her eyes. She didn’t have to turn before knowing who it was.

"That’s Milo’s father."

Ellie frowned, "Why do the handsome ones have to be married?"

She was dramatic as if the love of her life just announced he was getting married to someone else.

Though June could have cleared the fact that Milo was a dog, she let Ellie continued to believe Chris was much.

As much as she didn’t want her heart broken, she didn’t want the same for her friend.

"How was work today?"

Ellie frown only deepened. "Same as always. The customers were just as rude as every other day. Trying to hit an innocent girl ass over cheap money and talking down on me."

June patted her back. "It’s just for the main time. Things would get better."

Ellie nodded. "I hope things get better sooner." Then suddenly, her eyes lit up. "Heard something today at the bar while working?’

June who wasn’t really interested in gossiping only nodded. "Whats that?"

"There are rumors of some sort of mafia ruling New Central State. And the most eligible bachelor is the son of the Mafia queen."

"A mafia Queen?"

Ellie nodded in ecitement. "Yeah. Those are not common. Most mafia group are mostly ruled by men, but this particular group is ruled by a woman. And she has more power than most mafia in the state."

June swallowed. "That’s great." But if she were to be honest, she wanted nothing to do with mafia. Her father was a mafia lord and he had been nothing but ruthless.

Rauf was also a mafia lord, but he was inactive during the five years they were together. And it had been the best five years of her life, no violence, no war, no talking of illegal business.

Ellie had come from a normal family. She had only heard rumors about mafia families, but she had do idea how dangerous they were behind closed door.

As she continued speaking on what she had learnt about the group, her eyes sparked in excitement.

It couldn’t be. She stopped, making Ellie stop beside her. "What’s wrong?"

June turned towards her with a knowing look. "All you have been talking about is this mafia group you just heard about , and how handsome the mafia queen son is. I hope it’s not what I am thinking."

Instead of replying, Ellie only stuck her tongue out and started running towards the direction of the house.

June ran after her, but soon she became tired, holding her leg as she heaved.

Ellie looked back to see June tired and immediately ran back to her. She held her back out of fear. "Are you okay?

There were hint of panic in her voice, "Is something wrong? Are you feeling okay? Or do you need something?"

They were numerous questions flowing in Ellie’s head.

If anything was to happen to the baby, she wouldn’t stop blaming herself for it.

Suddenly June leap up, catching her arms tightly. "Now, I don’t have to run after you anymore."

It took Ellie’s brain a while to catch up with what just happened, then she playfully struggled to escape June. "You just played me, right."

June smiled at her. "I did what I could."

"I swear, you’re worst than mafia’s. You’re tricky and corny."

June shrugged. "And you’re non-chalant. Don’t you dare think of going close to that mafia bachelor of something? They’re not the sort of people you want to mingle with."

Ellie only smiled at her. "I don’t even know the man."

"And I know you more Ellie. Don’t think about it."

She nodded. "Fine. I’ll keep my distance even if I see him. Not as if our path would ever cross."

Unknown to both ladies having fun on the road, there were two men watching them, and clicking their pictures repeatedly.

One of the men said in a monotone voice. "I want to know everything about them." Then he pointed at June. "Especially her."

The other men, who was his assistant smirked. "Boss. Did you suddenly become interested in woman?"

His boss glared at him. That glare would have made any other person piss on their body, but his assistant was more like a brother now.

Instead of keeping him shut, he continued. "I can see what’s going on here. You’re finally falling in love. Mother will be so happy about that."

The man frowned at him. "Would you keep quiet and continue your job? I only want to know about her because she saved Milo."

Chris decided that was the excuse he was going to hold onto.

He had briefly checked her finger and there was no ring on it.

It was very safe to assume she was a free woman.

But that little topic has catches the assistant notice. "What happened to Milo?"

Chris eyes darkened. "Some unfortunate bike man hit him while we were on a walk. Fortunately, I found this vet who treated him." Then he turned towards his assistant again.

The assistant bower. "I’m sorry, boss. I shouldn’t have gone for so long. It was all my fault."

Chris shrugged, looking back at the dog at the back seat. "It’s fine. You’re here now and Milo is fine too."

Satisfied with his response, the man asked. "Do you want me to deal with the bike man?"

If it were normal days, Chris would have dealt with him himself. Making sure he experienced the same thing Milo had. But, meeting Milo’s saviour had put him in a strangely good mood.

And for the first time, he didn’t want to waste his time on revenge. He waved in dismissal. "Forget about him. I already forgave him."

His assistant who had lost complete interest in the woman because of the conversation, suddenly turned towards their direction again. But they were long gone.

"Are you sure, boss? Forgiveness is a sin."

Chris just smiled. "I know. But I am in a good mood today. There’s no point combing everywhere for a random bike man. Just let it go. Focus that energy on finding out everything about her.
