The Mafia King of Philadelphia: From witness to his doted wife
Chapter 214: Please be safe, my little librarian
Viktor whispers her name. He could feel the anger in her voice, and that was when he knew. "You kidnapped me." Sienna gave a painful smile. "Then you married me." Her voice shook.
"And somehow, you fell in love with me." She wiped her tears again. "And I fell in love with you." She looked directly into his eyes. "So now I’m just Viktor’s little librarian wife, right?"
"No."
"I’m the woman you have to protect from everything."
"Sienna, that’s not,"
"You decide what I can handle." Her voice broke. "You decide what I should know." She shook her head. "You decide when I’m strong enough for the truth." Viktor stepped closer.
"That’s not how I see you."
"Then why did you do it?" He had no immediate answer. Sienna nodded slowly. "That’s what I thought."
"Sienna, please."
"No." She turned away. "I trusted you." Those four words hurt him more than anything else she had said. Viktor stood still.
"I trusted you more than anyone." She walked toward the door. "I didn’t need you to protect me from the truth." She stopped. "I needed you to stand beside me while I faced it."
Viktor swallowed hard. "I’m sorry." Sienna closed her eyes. "I’m sorry too." He frowned. "For what?"
"For believing that you would always tell me the truth." She reached for the coat hanging near the door. Viktor immediately moved toward her. "Where are you going?"
"I need some air."
"You’re not going anywhere alone." She picked up the car keys from the table.
"I said I need some air, Viktor."
"You just collapsed."
"And I’m fine."
"You are not fine." She looked at him, tears still sitting in her eyes. "No, Viktor." Her voice was barely a whisper. "I’m not."
She opened the door. "It’s late, Sienna. Where are you going?" Viktor followed her down the stairs. "Come on, baby. Let’s talk about this." Sienna didn’t answer. She kept walking.
Her steps were quick and uneven, almost as if she needed to get as far away from him as possible before she broke down again. Behind them, the noise had already caught Marcus and Manuel’s attention.
They came out from the other side of the house just as Sienna reached the bottom of the stairs. Marcus immediately noticed her face.
"Sienna..." She didn’t stop. Sienna kept walking toward the door. "Fine," Viktor said quietly. His voice cracked slightly. "If you don’t want to see my face right now, I’ll be the one to leave." She still didn’t stop. Viktor followed beside her. He wasn’t touching her.
He wasn’t trying to force her to stay. He simply couldn’t bring himself to let her walk out without trying one last time. "Sienna." Nothing. "Baby, please." She reached the front door.
Viktor stopped a few steps behind her. "Don’t leave me." That finally made her pause. For a second, her shoulders trembled. She didn’t turn around.
Viktor’s voice became softer. "I know I messed up." Sienna closed her eyes. "I know I should have told you." She opened the door.
"I know." She walked outside. Viktor followed her to the driveway. "Sienna, please." She reached her car and opened the door.
Viktor stopped. She turned around. Her face was wet with tears. "Don’t even think about following me." Viktor stared at her.
"I swear, Viktor..." Her voice broke. "If you follow me right now, I will fucking hate you forever." The words hit him hard. He stood completely still. Sienna got into the car and slammed the door. For a moment, she sat there with both hands gripping the steering wheel.
Her breathing was shaky. She looked straight ahead. She didn’t look at Viktor again. The engine started. Then the car pulled away. Viktor watched the headlights disappear down the driveway. He didn’t move.
Marcus and Manuel stood behind him in silence. For several seconds, nobody said anything. Then Manuel spoke. "Boss..." Viktor ran a hand slowly through his hair.
"Are you not going after her?" Viktor didn’t answer. His eyes remained fixed on the road. He wanted to. God, he wanted to. Every instinct in him was screaming to get into another car and follow her.
But he remembered her words. If you follow me right now, I will fucking hate you forever. Viktor lowered his hand. "I can’t." Manuel looked worried. "She just collapsed earlier."
"I know."
"She isn’t thinking clearly."
"I know."
"Then shouldn’t someone stay close to her?" Viktor finally turned around. "I will." He pulled out his phone. Marcus immediately understood. Viktor opened the tracking application.
A small red dot appeared on the screen. Sienna’s car. Moving. Viktor stared at it. He couldn’t follow her. She had asked him not to. But he wasn’t going to leave her completely unprotected either.
"If anything happens," Viktor said quietly, "I want to know immediately." Marcus nodded. "I’ll stay here." Viktor barely heard him. His entire attention was on the red dot. It moved farther away.
One street. Then another. Viktor’s thumb hovered over the screen. His chest felt tight. He had spent his entire life believing that protecting the people he loved meant taking control of every dangerous situation before it reached them.
Tonight, he had finally realized that sometimes protection could feel like a cage. And he had put Sienna inside it. The red dot continued moving. Viktor watched. Five minutes passed. Then ten. It was still moving.
He checked the phone again. Still there. His shoulders relaxed slightly. At least she was safe. For now. But the farther that little red dot moved from the mansion, the more anxious Viktor became. He had no idea where she was going. He had no idea what she was thinking.
And since he had met Sienna, he couldn’t simply go after her and make everything right. All he could do was watch. Wait. And hope she came home. Viktor stared at the red dot as it moved deeper into the city.
"Please be safe, my little librarian," he whispered, the powerful Viktor Kessler looked completely helpless.
