The Mafia King of Philadelphia: From witness to his doted wife
Chapter 111: The Fall of the Bride
Aliya’s heart clung desperately to that possibility. Anything. Anything was better than believing he had abandoned her. She stared toward the enormous entrance.
Please... Come through those doors. Please. Just then. The heavy wooden doors burst open. Every head in the ballroom turned at once. Aliya’s heart leaped.
"He came..." She whispered. A hopeful smile almost reached her lips. The guests stood instinctively. Even Don Capri turned toward the entrance.
But the man walking through those doors... Wasn’t Viktor. One after another... Armed men flooded into the ballroom. Dressed entirely in black. Their faces hidden behind tactical masks. Assault rifles hung across their chests.
More poured in from both sides, moving with military precision as they secured every exit within seconds. The musicians stopped playing. A wine glass shattered somewhere in the audience. Someone screamed.
Panic spread like wildfire. Only one man walked calmly through the center aisle. Unlike the others... He wore no mask. His polished shoes echoed against the marble floor.
Click. Click. Click. His sharp eyes settled directly on Don Capri. A slow smile spread across his face. Don Capri’s expression changed instantly.
For the first time in years... Pure shock crossed the mafia boss’s face. His fingers slowly curled into fists. His lips parted just enough to whisper a name he never expected to say again.
"You..." The entire ballroom fell deathly silent. Dozens of armed men stood like statues, rifles raised, every exit sealed. No one dared breathe too loudly. Aliya’s hands tightened around her bouquet. Her wedding veil trembled against her shoulders.
The masked men slowly parted. One man walked through the middle. Unlike the others, he wore no mask. His expensive charcoal suit was immaculate. His polished shoes echoed across the marble floor with slow, deliberate steps.
Click. Click. Click. His eyes landed on Don Capri. A smile spread across his face. "I heard," he said casually, "you couldn’t pay your debt." He stopped a few feet away.
"So..."
"I came to collect." A ripple of unease swept through the guests. Don Capri forced a smile. "Come now." He stepped forward with open hands. "It’s my daughter’s wedding."
"We’re about to become family with Viktor Kessler." He lowered his voice. "Let’s not make a scene."
"We’ll discuss business after the ceremony." The man stared at him for a second. Then... He burst into laughter.
Loud. Mocking. The sound echoed through the ballroom. "After the ceremony?" He shook his head. "There isn’t going to be one." He snapped his fingers.
The giant LED screens surrounding the ballroom suddenly flickered to life. Everyone looked up.
The first image appeared. Aliya in college, laughing with a young man whose arm rested around her waist.
Then another. A different man. Then another. Photos became videos. Private parties. Nightclubs. Hotel lobbies. Luxury vacations. The images were explicit there was no mistaking what they implied.
Then came screenshots. Messages. Voice recordings. Conversations with lovers. One message flashed across the enormous screen. "Once I marry Viktor, his empire becomes mine, and I will deal with that little toy of his."
Another. "Men are easy. They always fall." Gasps filled the ballroom.
Every guest looked between the screens and the bride standing frozen beneath them. Aliya’s face drained of color.
"No..." She whispered. Another picture appeared. Then another.
Every secret she’d buried over the years unfolded before hundreds of the most powerful people in the underworld. Her breathing became uneven. "No!"
She looked toward the technicians. "Turn it off!" Her voice cracked. "Turn it off!" Nobody moved.
"TURN IT OFF!" The stranger looked at her almost sympathetically.
"You think Viktor Kessler would marry a woman like you after seeing all this?"
Aliya stared at him. "No..."
"He..."
"He doesn’t know..." The man smiled.
"Oh..."
"He knows."
"He saw every single file." Aliya felt the world spin. Her bouquet slipped from her fingers. White roses scattered across the marble floor.
"He rejected you long before today." The words struck harder than any bullet ever could. Around the ballroom... The whispers returned.
"So that’s why..."
"She was playing him."
"I always suspected."
"What a disgrace." Don Capri’s face darkened. His entire body shook with rage. One of his bodyguards reached beneath his jacket. His fingers wrapped around the grip of a pistol.
Marcus, watching everything through an earpiece from the surveillance room, saw the movement immediately.
"Weapon!" The shout came too late. The bodyguard fired first. Bang! The shot echoed through the ballroom. Chaos exploded. Gunfire erupted from every direction.
Guests screamed. Crystal chandeliers shattered overhead. People threw themselves beneath tables. Others rushed toward exits that were already blocked. The masked gunmen responded instantly, returning fire with disciplined precision.
This wasn’t random violence. Every shot was calculated. Every target had already been chosen. Men loyal to Don Capri dropped one after another. Several tried to fight back. None made it far.
Don Capri pulled a pistol from beneath his jacket. "Move!"
He grabbed Elena’s arm. She had already drawn her own weapon. Years beside mafia boss had taught her exactly how to survive. Aliya remained frozen. Her wedding gown spread across the floor like spilled milk.
"Aliya!" Elena shouted. "Move!" The scream finally broke her trance.
She stumbled toward her dad and Elena. Bullets ripped through the marble columns behind them. Guests scattered in every direction.
Some cried. Some begged. Others lay motionless where they had fallen. Don Capri fired twice. One masked attacker collapsed. Another immediately stepped into his place.
"There!"
Elena pointed toward a service corridor. Don Capri nodded. "Go!" They ran. Halfway across the corridor. Bang! Don Capri staggered. Blood spread across his shoulder. He gritted his teeth.
"I’m fine!"
"Keep moving!" A second shot rang out. Elena cried out as a bullet tore through her upper arm. She nearly lost her footing. Aliya caught her before she fell.
"Elena!"
"I’m alright." She wasn’t. Blood soaked the sleeve of her elegant dress. But she kept moving. The three of them disappeared through the emergency exit. Outside... Aliya shoved open the driver’s door of the waiting limousine.
"Dad!" "Get in!" Don Capri climbed into the passenger seat, one hand pressed firmly against his bleeding shoulder. Elena slid into the back seat, breathing heavily.
Aliya slammed the car into gear. The tires screamed as the limousine shot out of the parking lot. Her carefully chosen wedding dress was stained with blood.
