Chapter 163: I will bite you even harder

In an instant, the fortified tall tower that Li Jun used to hide out in as a child had a large hole blasted through it, bricks crumbling and smoke rising. A corner of Li Jun’s lips rose into a sinister smile.

Xiu Ying came to with a start, but a grimace appeared on her once stunning face that was now covered in a layer of dust. She pushed herself up from the ground, but her body trembled from the pain.

A piercing ring filled her ears, drowning out the chaos around her. Her vision was blurred from the smoke and fractured light, she fumbled around. Her once-pristine armor now had a jagged crack across her chest. Like vines, the cracks spread throughout its surface.

She knew this armor was less powerful when compared to the one Haku Ume wore, but she didn’t think it wouldn’t be able to withstand Li Jun’s onslaught. She had asked for Haku Ume’s armor when she ascended, as it was the imperial queen armor, but who knew that bastard Li Mingze would stubbornly refuse and choose to make another one.

If only she had that armor on, she wouldn’t be in this miserable state. She coughed, and a rusty taste flooded her senses. Dark splatters sprayed on the broken stone. She faltered for a moment, but her eyes burned with defiance.

She couldn’t let things end like this. She had been incredibly stupid before. She mistakenly thought she was in control, but everything came crashing down at the snap of Li Jun’s fingers. She had to retreat to advance.

With a trembling finger, she tapped the panel on her tactical bracer, attempting to engage the teleportation function. The blue screen turned green with a beep, and her body that was there a second ago vanished.

Li Jun knew she had fled like a fucking coward, but that was the least of his concerns right now. He rushed over to the room that Yu Wen had been locked up in. Yu Wen seemed to have damaged the panel. This was why Xiu Ying couldn’t get to him on time.

He was anxious, his demeanor taking a drastic shift compared to before, but he still composed himself and called out Yu Wen’s name. Yu Wen, who was standing on the other side of the door, heard that familiar voice and his entire body went stiff.

He reached for the broken panel, its display cracked and flickering red. He didn’t want to be used by Xiu Ying as a weakness against Li Jun, especially with this collar around his neck. This was why he broke that panel and initiated a total lockdown. He studied this imperial palace through and through. Who would have thought it would come in handy now?

When he heard Li Jun’s voice calling his name, he hesitated. He knew what kind of schemes Xiu Ying was capable of. Using Li Jun’s voice to make him open the door wasn’t impossible.

Hearing no response, Li Jun’s breath caught painfully in his throat, his chest tight as if bound by invisible chains. His fingers trembled against the door, unable to still themselves, each twitch betraying the storm inside of him.

He pressed his palm flat, then leaned his forehead against the cool surface, the chill seeping into his skin and sending a shudder through his heart. Yu Wen’s silence gnawed at him, and when he finally spoke, his voice was raw, heavy with fear and desperation.

"Wen-ge... if you don’t open this door, I will bite you even harder than before," he said. It carried the shape of a threat, yet his tone was indulgent.

The door that had remained closed opened. Caught unprepared, Li Jun fell forward, right into a strong pair of arms. He was suddenly caught in a warm embrace with a familiar scent. With a start, Li Jun pulled back, his heart pounding in his ears.

One would think that having reunited with his lover, he would kiss him passionately with tears streaming down his face, but that’s not what he did. There were tears, yes, but he just started talking with his hands, taking Yu Wen by surprise.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" he yelled with each slap on Yu Wen’s shoulders. The slaps weren’t hard, but they weren’t soft either. They hurt, but Yu Wen was beaming. Call him a masochist because those hits were causing tremors in his heart. Li Jun was so angry and relieved at the same time.

He just wanted to vent out his frustrations. When he heard Yu Wen had been arrested, it felt like his entire world had crumbled on top of him. He had lost his mother, then his father, and now he might lose the love of his life. He didn’t want to think in that direction, but the fear and anxiety he felt were unbearable. He was at his wit’s end.

So, seeing the culprit, the cause of his anguish, he couldn’t help but use his hands. Warm tears streamed down his cheeks without him even realizing it. He was weeping like a willow, his eyes expressing his pent-up grievance. ℴℴ𝘮

Seeing such a heartbreaking sight, Yu Wen felt as though his heart was being torn from his very soul. His arms wrapped around Li Jun with desperate strength, pulling him close as if holding him could ease the pain. His voice broke into a whisper, trembling with guilt and sorrow. "I am sorry... I am so sorry."

But Li Jun, raw with anguish, couldn’t bear it. He struggled against the embrace, his body tense, his breath uneven, fighting to pull away. Yu Wen only held tighter, his voice shaking as he murmured into his lover’s ear, "Shhh... It’s okay. I am alright... baby, don’t cry." His hand stroked Li Jun’s hair with tender insistence. Each touch was meant to soothe, yet it only made Li Jun feel even more upset.

With a sudden surge, Li Jun shoved him hard, his frustration spilling over, though Yu Wen barely moved, steady as a boulder. His eyes burned with hurt as he yelled, his tone sharp, sulking, and accusatory, "She issues a warrant, and you just obediently follow? What is wrong with you?"
