Chapter 1201. They Communicate With More Lethal Clarity Than Most Elite Units
Chapter 1201: 1201. They Communicate With More Lethal Clarity Than Most Elite Units
The fight that followed did not merely continue; it escalated into something primal, a grinding war of attrition that stretched the very fabric of the corridor.
This was no longer a series of exchanges; it was a continuous, overlapping storm of violence where magic and steel became indistinguishable from one another.
Valentina became a living conduit for the arcane. Her grimoire screamed as she maintained a relentless barrage of multi-elemental spellwork, each incantation overlapping the last.
FWOOSH! CRACKLE! SHHHH!
Fireballs spiraled through air frozen solid by frost lances, creating a chaotic weather system of destruction that forced Xerollion to constantly shift his magical defenses.
Beneath this celestial chaos, Morwenna moved like a shadow given lethal intent. She flowed between the explosive bursts of magic, using the momentary blindness caused by Valentina’s flashes to close the distance, landing precise, vicious strikes that sought every gap in his guard.
For the first time that day, Xerollion felt the genuine sting of complication. The mathematical certainty of his victory was being eroded by their combined skill.
Several of Morwenna’s strikes found their mark, carving shallow red furrows across his shoulders and ribs.
SQUELCH. SLICE.
Valentina’s spells weren’t just glancing blows either; molten bolts scorched through his robes, searing flesh with the smell of burnt hair and copper. But every time a wound opened, his Infinite Regeneration roared to life.
The flesh knitted back together with an unnatural, wet sound, SHLIP SHLIP, sealing the damage before the blood could even cool.
The pattern repeated with deadly, exhausting precision for several agonizing minutes. Neither woman would yield; neither would break rhythm.
They were two gears in a single, devastating machine.
’They are learning,’ Xerollion realized, his mind racing to recalibrate. ’They aren’t just attacking; they are studying my defensive patterns.’
’They are looking for the lag in my adaptation.’
Valentina sensed the opening.
"Now, Morwenna!" she cried out, her voice cracking with magical strain.
Valentina called down a lance of pure white lightning from the vaulted ceiling.
KRA KOOOOOM!
Halfway through its flight, she twisted the spell with a violent flick of her wrist, splitting the bolt into three separate, writhing serpents of electricity.
ZZZZZT ZZZZZT ZZZZZT!
Xerollion was forced into a desperate dance, weaving between three lethal paths of ionized air. The moment his attention fractured, the moment his telekinetic focus split three ways, Morwenna struck.
She drove in with a thrust aimed with surgical accuracy directly at the soft gap beneath his ribs.
WHOOSH.
Xerollion twisted at the last possible millisecond, but he was too late to avoid the steel entirely. The blade bit deep into the outside of his hip.
CRUNCH.
The sound of metal grinding against bone echoed off the walls. A thick rivulet of crimson blood sprayed across the stone floor before his flesh sealed itself shut in a grotesque display of supernatural healing.
Valentina saw the blood hit the floor and pressed the advantage mercilessly. She abandoned the wide, theatrical castings, shifting to something far more terrifying: compressed, high-velocity fire bolts.
POP POP POP POP!
Each bolt arrived barely half a second after the last, a rapid fire staccato of heat that forced Xerollion to commit every ounce of his telekinetic energy to deflection. He couldn’t attack; he could only survive.
THUD. THUD. THUD.
Morwenna exploited this lockdown. Using the cover of Valentina’s infernal barrage, she circled wide, her boots silent on the blood-slicked stone.
She came at him from an angle that forced Xerollion to twist his entire torso just to keep her in his peripheral vision. Then she unleashed the killing combination.
SHING SHING!
Her blade flashed twice in terrifying succession. The first was a vicious diagonal slash aimed high at his exposed shoulder, meant to force his guard up and his weight onto his back foot.
The second followed immediately a low, brutal cut aimed directly at the hinge of his knee.
It was the classic ’High Low’ gambit: a trap designed to force a defender to commit their weight in two opposite directions simultaneously.
In that split second, he would either have to protect his throat and lose his leg or protect his knee and expose his neck to the killing blow.
Xerollion read the gambit. His mind, operating at a processing speed that made the world appear to move in slow motion, detected the micro shift in Morwenna’s center of gravity before her blade had even finished its ascent.
WHIP SHING!
The steel whistled through empty air where his shoulder and knee had been a millisecond before. He didn’t just dodge; he exploited the momentum of her own attack.
Pivoting on the ball of one foot with the fluid grace of a dancer and the lethal intent of a predator, he spun into her guard. His palm shot forward—not a punch, but a focused, telekinetically enhanced strike.
CRACK THUD.
The impact caught Morwenna squarely across the ribs. The sound was sickening—the wet crunch of cartilage straining under supernatural force.
HUUUGH!
The air was violently expelled from her lungs in a pained wheeze. The force sent her stumbling backward, three full, unsteady steps that ate up the precious space she needed to reset.
Her shoulder slammed into a broken marble pillar with a bone-jarring THUMP, sending dust and ancient debris cascading around her.
Morwenna lurched forward, coughing violently. A spray of crimson spittle flecked the stone floor.
PHTH!
Her chest burned as if filled with molten lead, every breath a serrated knife in her lungs. But she didn’t retreat.
She didn’t collapse.
She straightened her spine with a guttural growl of defiance, wiping blood from her chin with the back of her gauntlet. In her thirty years of war, she had learned one immutable truth: to stop breathing for even three seconds was to invite the reaper to dinner.
"Cover the left flank!" Valentina’s voice rang out, cutting through the ringing in Morwenna’s ears.
The headmaster’s voice was tight, strained by the sheer magical output required to keep the barrage going, but it possessed an unbreakable steel. "He favors it whenever he pivots away from your blade!"
"He’s compensating for your reach!"
Morwenna didn’t waste breath on a reply. She couldn’t afford to.
Instead, she shifted her stance, her boots scraping against the tile with a decisive SKREEEE. She widened her footing by exactly half a step, closing the tactical gap Valentina had identified with the instinctive precision of a veteran sergeant.
Xerollion attempted to reset. He pivoted away from a probing thrust aimed at his ribs, seeking to reestablish his distance.
But the trap was sprung. The moment his weight shifted, Morwenna was already there, not where he expected her to be, but exactly where the tactical opening existed.
SHHHH TCH!
Her blade flashed in a vicious arc. Xerollion was forced to twist his torso unnaturally far, his spine popping audibly as he contorted to avoid being bisected.
The enchanted steel missed his flesh but tore through his sleeve with the sound of ripping parchment, leaving a long, clean slit across his forearm.
A thin line of fresh blood welled up along the cut, stark against his skin.
"Noted," Xerollion said. His voice was eerily calm, carrying a thread of genuine, almost academic appreciation that felt more threatening than any battle cry. "Remarkable."
"You two communicate with more lethal clarity in the middle of a massacre than most elite units manage on a sunlit parade ground."
His eyes flickered to the blood on his arm. He could feel his Infinite Regeneration already beginning the work, a faint, tingling heat as the cells began to stitch themselves back together.
"We’re not dying," Valentina snapped back.
Her breathing was ragged now, sweat streaming down her temples, causing strands of her silver hair to cling to her flushed skin like spider silk.
Her fingers were twitching, weaving the complex geometric patterns of a new compound spell even as she spoke.
FZZT CRACKLE.
"Not today."
Her eyes locked onto his, burning with a desperate, incandescent fury. "Not to you... Never to you."
The air between them began to hum again, heavier this time, charged with the static of a storm that refused to break.
