Chapter 1185: 1185. Everything You’ve Conquered Has Surprised You at Least Once

Rex did not merely attack; he orchestrated a symphony of anatomical destruction. His Martial Arts Mastery and Weapons Mastery had fused with his Telekinesis Full Potential in a terrifying display of synchronized violence.

Every physical movement was augmented by an invisible, crushing layer of telekinetic force, meaning every strike didn’t just land; it arrived from two directions at once: the fist itself and the gravitational pressure surrounding it.

CRUNCH.

A single punch to Apollo’s ribs didn’t require a wind-up or an exchange of blows. There was no struggle, no desperate parry.

There was only the immediate, wet sound of structural failure as the ribs caved inward like dried kindling, piercing the lung tissue. Apollo gasped, a spray of crimson mist erupting from his lips, but Rex was already moving.

A follow-up kick swept through the air, reinforced by telekinetic momentum, and caught Apollo’s raised arm.

SNAP CRACK.

The ulna shattered cleanly, the bone splintering under the sheer force, leaving Apollo’s limb hanging at an impossible, nauseating angle.

Desperation finally overcame Apollo’s shock. With a guttural roar of pure, exhausted instinct, he threw one final counter—a wild, telegraphed swing fueled by the last embers of his divine heritage.

Rex didn’t dodge.

He didn’t retreat. He simply reached out and caught Apollo’s fist in his palm.

The contact was absolute. Apollo pulled, his muscles straining until they quivered, but Rex held the fist as if it were anchored to the bedrock of the universe.

Apollo could feel it then—the absolute, soul-crushing futility of his resistance. He was a child trying to move a mountain.

Then, the torment began.

CRACK.

Rex’s grip tightened. The first finger snapped. Rex didn’t flinch; he didn’t rush.

He held the broken digit still, letting the sound reverberate through the silent domain, letting Apollo feel the white-hot lightning of nerve pain before moving to the next.

CRACK. CRACK. CRACK.

Rex maintained unwavering eye contact the entire time, his dark gaze fixed on Apollo’s watering eyes, forcing him to witness his own degradation. Each break came with its own measured pause, a deliberate cruelty designed to let the agony marinate.

Apollo’s breathing became a series of ragged, wet hitches. He wanted to scream, but his voice seemed to have abandoned him, leaving only the pathetic sounds of a man whose spirit was being systematically dismantled alongside his bones.

"You spent your whole life trying to be a hero," Rex said, his voice conversational even as he drove a fist into Apollo’s jaw.

The blow was reinforced with Gravity Manipulation, multiplying its mass tenfold.

WHAM!

Apollo’s head snapped sideways with enough force to liquify brain tissue. Blood sprayed across the cracked ground as his jaw dislocated with a sickening THUD.

"Trying to protect everyone... Trying to be the shield, the light, the righteous sword," Rex continued, weaving another strike into the rhythm of the beating. "And look at you now... Broken... Pathetic..."

"You can’t even protect yourself, let alone anyone you love..."

"Your ideals didn’t save them, Apollo... And they won’t save you."

Apollo collapsed to his knees, his body folding under its own weight. Blood poured freely from his mouth, painting his chin crimson.

The fire that had burned behind his eyes during his brief rampage had been extinguished by that divine fury. In its place was something far more terrifying: a hollow, quiet resignation.

He was a man who had run out of everything except the simple, agonizing fact of still being conscious.

Rex crouched in front of him, bringing his face level with Apollo’s. The violet-black aura pulsed between them like a heartbeat.

"You’ve lost, Apollo," Rex whispered, the words cold as a tombstone. "No goddess is coming to save you now."

"No divine channel remains to bail you out... No options... No miracles..."

"You have exactly one road left from here, and it’s accepting that everything you believed in was a lie."

For a long moment, there was only the sound of Apollo’s wet, labored breathing. Then, slowly and agonizingly, Apollo raised his head.

It cost him visibly. Each inch of movement seemed to fight against gravity itself.

His breath came in ragged, bubbling gasps, but as his eyes met Rex’s, something flickered in the depths of those bloodshot irises. It wasn’t hope; it was something harder.

Something older.

The ghost of the man who had stood before four thousand soldiers and promised them salvation.

His gaze did not flinch.

"Maybe," Apollo said. His voice was weak, shredded by pain and blood, but the tremor was gone. "Maybe I have lost today..."

"Maybe you really are going to kill me here, in this godforsaken place where no one will ever know the truth of what happened."

He paused, drawing a breath that clearly tore through his damaged lungs.

"But you’re wrong if you think this ends with me," he continued, his voice gaining a razor-sharp edge of defiance. "I’m not the first Apostle of Life, Rex..."

"And I promise you... I won’t be the last."

Rex’s eyebrow rose slightly. Behind the reforming edges of the mask, a shadowy lattice of violet energy was weaving itself back across his features like living smoke; his curiosity was genuine.

He didn’t cut Apollo off. He didn’t strike.

He simply watched, fascinated by the way a dying animal could still find the breath to snarl.

"The Goddess of Life won’t let what you’ve done here simply pass," Apollo said.

His voice was gaining a strange, eerie strength, a hard-won timbre that seemed to vibrate from his very bones rather than his throat.

His body was a wreck; blood leaked from his split lips, his ribs grated against one another with every shallow inhale, and his shattered arm twitched uselessly, but his conviction had become his only remaining fuel.

"She has seen all of this... Every drop of blood, every broken bone, every violation of the natural order."

Apollo coughed, sending a spray of crimson across the cracked floor between them. "She knows what you did to me."

"She knows what you threatened to do to my mother, to everyone I loved."

"And someday..." His gaze sharpened, piercing through the violet haze of Rex’s aura. "Someday she will choose a new Apostle..."

"Someone stronger than I was... Someone more prepared... Someone who will come for you in a way you cannot lie your way around..."

"Someone who cannot be manipulated or talked down with a clever enough story... A force that doesn’t negotiate."

Rex tilted his head, studying the broken man with something that looked almost like respect layered beneath a veneer of cold mockery.

"You say that as though it frightens me," he said, his voice smooth as silk over gravel. "It doesn’t..."

"I’ve already fought one god and taken a piece of him home with me as a souvenir..."

"If your goddess sends me another, I’ll simply add whatever they give me to the collection."

"You say that now." Apollo’s voice cracked on the last word, but the shape of the sentence remained defiant. "You said the same thing about the Apostle network before you found out how deep the rot actually went..."

"You said it about the Underlayer before you discovered how much of it you’d have to burn to the ground just to stand on the ashes."

A ghost of a smile touched Apollo’s bloodied mouth. "Everything you’ve conquered so far has surprised you at least once before you finished conquering it..."

"You play the game like you know all the rules, Rex, but you’re still playing..."

"Maybe this will be the same..."

"Maybe you’ll finally meet something that doesn’t bend the way you expect... Something that breaks you instead."

Rex laughed. It was softer this time, lighter than the cruel amusement from earlier, almost genuine, but underneath that amusement, a small, razor-thin thread of wariness coiled in his gut.

He didn’t let it show on his face. He was too seasoned for that.

"I’ll look forward to it," Rex said, his voice carrying the casual finality of a death sentence. "Truly... But until that day comes, Apollo, you’re going to be nothing more than the memory of a hero who failed to protect anything that mattered to him..."

"A cautionary tale."

The light in Apollo’s eyes began to dim, the last reserves of his spiritual and physical stamina finally hemorrhaging away. His head drooped slightly, but his gaze never wavered from Rex’s mask.

"Maybe," Apollo whispered, his voice fading into a wet rasp. "But at least I’ll die knowing I never stopped believing that goodness exists."

"Even if..." A final, shuddering breath escaped him. "...even if it wasn’t enough to beat you today."
