The Lust Grimoire: I Steal Magic By Fulfilling Her Desires
Chapter 66: Results
The eastern evaluation platform was chaos wrapped in protocol.
Extraction light continued to deposit students in uneven waves. Medical teams moved through the returning crowd with practiced speed, scanning for critical injuries, applying emergency stabilizers, and marking those who needed deeper treatment.
Instructors held the perimeter. Broadcast crystals hovered at multiple angles, still feeding live images to every major hall and dormitory screen across the academy.
Then the final count locked, and the central display crystal above the platform flared to life.
The list of the forty qualifiers began to write itself in clean, ranked order based on imprint sequence.
The upper section of the list drew the expected reactions — final-year names, established third-year climbers, a handful of particularly vicious second-years.
Applause and groans moved through the spectator areas in familiar patterns. Then the lower third of the list began to populate, and the noise started to change.
Iris Blackthorn – 39th.
For a fraction of a second the platform was almost quiet.
Then Arthur Vance – 40th.
The silence broke completely.
"Two first-years?!"
"That’s impossible. Check the feed again."
"The princess I can almost believe after what the crystals caught, but the Tier 1—"
"He finished the outer layer like a final-year. You all saw it."
"They were in the anomaly sector. The one that went dark. How did they even—"
Arthur stood a few meters from the arrival zone with a medical officer running a diagnostic crystal over his ribs.
The officer made a dissatisfied noise at the reading and slapped a stabilizer patch against his side. The cold bloom of emergency healing magic sank into the bruised bone and torn muscle.
It would not fully repair the damage, but it would keep him functional. Arthur barely paid attention to the process. His eyes were on Iris.
She stood under a separate medical team’s attention, posture carefully rebuilt into something closer to her public default.
The blood had been cleaned from her face. A fresh cloak had been draped over her shoulders to hide the worst of the uniform damage.
Only someone standing close would notice the residual tremor in her fingers or the way her Grimoire still sat slightly too warm against her hip.
When her violet eyes met his across the short distance, the mask did not quite hide the shared knowledge of what had happened inside the crater.
The display crystal continued to fill in the remaining context.
Julian Ironwood – 27th.
Ragna – 31st.
Celian – 34th.
All three of the other first-year captains had cleared the dungeon. The academy had entered five first-years and produced five qualifiers. The statistical absurdity of that outcome was not lost on anyone watching.
Near the instructor observation line, Talia Vane let out a short, sharp laugh.
"Five for five. The upper years are going to be unbearable about this for weeks."
Selene Frost said nothing. Her ice-blue eyes moved from Arthur’s stabilizer patch to the faint residual violet aura still clinging to Iris’s Grimoire, then to the section of the display that confirmed both of them had imprinted after the major anomaly sector went dark.
The temperature in her immediate vicinity remained several degrees lower than the rest of the platform.
The old vice principal stepped forward as the final medical checks completed. His voice carried across the platform without effort.
"The preliminary selection is concluded. The forty students whose names appear on the record will advance to the next stage of internal ranking trials. All other participants will return to standard curriculum. Medical clearance is mandatory before any further combat activity. That is all."
The formal dismissal did nothing to reduce the density of the crowd.
Students who had not entered the dungeon pressed against the barrier lines, shouting questions and speculation.
Upper-year qualifiers received congratulations and immediate invitations to training groups. The five first-years became gravity wells of attention whether they wanted it or not.
Julian accepted the attention with sharp, controlled pride, already redirecting it toward talk of the next stage. Ragna and Celian handled the press of bodies with varying degrees of patience.
Arthur and Iris found themselves at the center of a different kind of focus.
A third-year boy with a heavy-axe Grimoire stepped into Arthur’s path, expression caught between disbelief and something uglier.
"You want to explain how a registered Tier 1 walks out of that fragment in the top forty while people with real books got extracted in pieces?"
Arthur met his eyes without heat. "I kept moving and didn’t waste mana. You can watch the recordings if you want the details."
"The recordings go dark in the sector you and the princess disappeared into. Convenient."
"The sector went dark because a high-order nightmare manifestation destroyed the crystals," Iris said from beside Arthur. Her voice carried the cool, precise tone of someone who had been trained from childhood to end conversations with presence alone. "We survived it. If you have a formal accusation of rule-breaking, submit it through the evaluation office. Otherwise you are standing in the way of mandatory medical clearance."
The third-year looked at her, then at the final-year crest still visible on some of the distant qualifiers, and apparently decided the cost of continuing was higher than the benefit. He stepped aside with a final hard stare.
Milo pushed through the edge of the crowd a moment later, face pale with residual fear and relief.
"You’re both actually alive," he said, like he needed to say it out loud to make it real. "The feeds cut out and then that whole sector went unreadable and people started saying—" He stopped, shook his head, and shoved a water flask into Arthur’s hand. "Drink. You look like you crawled out of a grave."
Arthur drank. The water tasted metallic.
Around them the platform slowly began to clear as medical staff enforced the clearance requirement and instructors directed students back toward the main campus.
The display crystal continued to cycle the list of forty names for anyone who still doubted the outcome.
Five first-years.
Two of them from the anomaly sector that had eaten the broadcast crystals.
One of them officially Tier 1.
The story was already writing itself in a dozen different versions across the academy’s rumor channels.
Some of those versions would include the truth of a ruptured dream Grimoire and a permanent print sealed under a privacy barrier. Most would not. Arthur intended to keep it that way as long as possible.
Selene appeared at the edge of the thinning crowd and crooked two fingers at him in a small, precise gesture. The meaning was clear. Medical clearance first. Then her office.
The residual frostbite might be gone, but the dual cultivation bond and the new permanent slot were not things she intended to leave unexamined.
Arthur glanced once more at Iris.
She was being drawn into a polite but insistent cluster of Nova students and a pair of palace-affiliated observers who had apparently been allowed onto the platform for the results.
For a moment her eyes found his again over the heads of the crowd. The look that passed between them carried the weight of the crater, the barrier, the permanent text now written into the third page of the Eros Codex, and the simple fact that they had walked out of the fragment together when the alternative had been dissolution.
Then the crowd closed and the moment passed.
Arthur turned toward the medical tents, stabilizer patch cold against his ribs, the new Dreamweaver ability sitting quietly in the third slot like a loaded secret.
The preliminary was over.
The academy had its forty.
And the boy officially registered as Tier 1 had just become impossible to dismiss as a curiosity.
