Draven’s POV

It was supposed to be a massacre ... especially the people at the top, the ones believed to be the reason for werewolf dominance.

In our quest for freedom, we had unknowingly walked straight into the hands of ruthless humans who only wanted to kill and dominate.

"You have the whole day to do this. Make sure you kill the billionaire wolf Selene and the Alpha William," Tony said.

He kept emphasizing killing Selene. What the fuck. He knew we had history ... or maybe he didn’t. Either way, fuck him.

How could I just kill someone like that? How long was I going to keep questioning what I was doing when I kept doing it anyway? I kept pulling that same shit and I had no choice. That was the part that ate at me the most.

Tony’s assistant helped us set up the computer we used to oversee Icefang ... the feeds, the headcount, everything happening inside the territory in real time.

The technology was like the eye of the goddess herself. We could literally see everything. I had never seen such a sophisticated machine in my life. These humans were something else entirely ... above anything I had ever encountered.

"Hey, Assistant ... we don’t even know your name. Come on, tell us," I said to her.

She scrunched her face like the question offended her existence, but I needed to know.

"Focus on your mission. Trust me, you don’t need my name," she said, then paused. "But it’s May ... since you asked."

"Who would hide such a beautiful name, May?" Zeno said, leaning in with that look of his. Always flirting. Never missing a single opening.

I turned my attention back to the screens and scanned the territory. Almost the whole of Morvaine was packed into Icefang at once ... approximately ten thousand people inside, with an estimated thirteen thousand still spread across Morvaine. I brought it to their attention immediately.

They had us leave right after.

They gave us matching clothes and altered our appearance so no one would clock us as outsiders. With guns and grenades packed tightly inside our bags, the plan was simple ... we were going to enter on the second night of the festival, and by the third morning, everyone was supposed to be wiped out.

While we were packing, Tony just blurted it out.

"There’s been a slight adjustment to the plan. May, you’re going with them."

Every eyebrow in the room shot up ... including hers.

"Boss, really? Why do I need to?" she asked, still looking like the words hadn’t fully landed.

"You have battle experience, and in case these guys can’t get it done, you make sure it is. Shoot everyone in sight and kill the Alphas and Lunas ... especially them." He paused. "I’ve talked too much. Even a child would understand by now. Go."

We finished packing and left the mansion.

The Bernia government had a secret agency ... one built specifically for wiping out entire civilisations without leaving a trace. Nobody would ever know it was them. The funding behind it was massive, the kind that made governments disappear from history books.

We boarded a private jet and left Bernia immediately, expected to land directly in Icefang.

The blades were rolling but they made almost no noise. The pilot was as quiet as a graveyard, and May sat across from me looking completely composed ... like she wasn’t about to help massacre an entire territory the moment we touched down.

While we were still in the air, I turned to her.

"May, tell us ... why didn’t we kill the ambassador’s wife?"

She looked up from her tablet slowly, as if confirming it was actually me talking.

"Everything Bernia does has a purpose," she said. "We intend to use his wife as a tool in the long run. So we can’t kill her."

I nodded.

She went back to swiping her screen, unbothered, cool as still water. I found myself studying her without meaning to ... the confidence, the grit. It was obvious she wasn’t new to any of this. At least she wasn’t out here killing her own people.

Her full blonde hair was loose, falling all over her shoulders. She was dressed in the same all-black, tight apparel as the rest of us, with her spectacles sitting on her face ... the kind that made her look serious even when she wasn’t trying. I couldn’t help but notice her.

"You look good in this," I said.

She glanced up at me briefly. "Thanks ... but the mission is more important."

I said nothing back. It was just the first time I was seeing her in something like that. She usually only wore stiff black suits and office shoes, nothing that actually showed the shape of her.

We landed in Morvaine ... Icefang airport specifically, the only place the pilot said we could set down without raising flags.

The plane hit the ground and we quickly threw on baggy outer layers over our kits. We couldn’t afford to be caught before the mission even started.

"Draven, you’re still leading the way ... remember?" May said as we stepped out.

We began walking.

At the gates, two security personnel stopped us. Why the fuck weren’t they somewhere enjoying the festival like everyone else? I thought to myself.

"Welcome to Icefang. What are you here for?" one of them asked.

"The mating festival," Valentina said, and God, she already looked the part ... sexy without even trying.

"You do realise it’s the second night? You’ve missed quite a bit," he pointed out.

"Never say never," Salvatore said with a grin. "We’re just here to have fun."

A small laugh went through the group. Natural. Easy. Exactly what we needed.

The second guard leaned slightly to the side, looking past us. "Who’s the lady at the back? She hasn’t said a word since you got here."

May smiled immediately, the kind of smile that looked like she’d been wearing it her whole life.

"Sorry, officers ... I’ve been saving my voice for screaming at the festival. You know how it is. All the fun."

The guards exchanged a look and seemed to accept that.

That was the first time I ever saw May switch like that ... effortless, disarming, like slipping on a mask she kept folded in her pocket.

"We still have to check you before you enter. Standard procedure," the first one said, and they both stepped forward.

They brought out metallic detectors and scanned us from head to toe ... thorough, unhurried. Two full minutes across all six of us.

They found nothing.

Bernia’s humans were real badasses. How they had managed to cloak every piece of metal ... the guns, the grenades, all of it concealed beneath our clothes ... was something I genuinely needed to understand. I made a mental note to ask May about it later.

We were let through.

The territory was still packed, still buzzing with heat and noise and laughter. It was the second night and the people of Icefang had no idea what was already walking among them.

We were off to find royalty.
