SELENE’S POV

No territory was without its challenges. No alpha and Luna were without issues of their own.

But we kept pushing forward nevertheless.

People came to me daily with problems ... both male and female. Personal issues. Corporate ones. And I was expected to solve every single one of them. Nobody told me about this part when I signed up to become Luna. The burden and the weight of responsibility that came with the title were enormous.

The crown was a prestigious thing. Yet it was very heavy. But the elders said we had to lift it with pride and honour.

The Alpha was away at an engagement that morning. I was the only one in the council chamber when someone walked in.

"Highly esteemed Luna, we have a problem with our company. The gross profit is really low compared to last year and the year before," he said.

"So what do you want the territory to do for you?" I asked.

He said he needed funds.

His company was in production. He needed the capital to increase his capacity, and he believed the territory could help. Resourceful of him, honestly.

"I like your confidence, and the fact that you believe Icefang can drive your business forward," I said. "However, we can’t give you a grant. What we can give you is a loan ... at five percent interest until it is fully paid off."

He was so grateful. "Thank you very much, esteemed Luna. I am so grateful for this opportunity," he said, and we had him sign the necessary papers. His loan would be ready within a few days.

That was just one of the many problems I attended to that day alone.

And it went on like that for days. I was exhausted every single evening, and my husband the Alpha noticed. Many times he would walk with me so we could handle meetings together.

I still had my own company to think about too. The building had been completed. Courtesy of my husband ... he had pumped a lot of money into the project just to make sure it was finished. An administrative office and a full production headquarters. The company was set to be the record-breaking company of the decade.

I was so excited. I couldn’t wait for work to begin.

The day of the ceremonial opening arrived ... the cutting of the ribbon.

A few people were there; not the entire territory. My husband was one of them, along with the chief manufacturer and a few other dignitaries.

I gave my speech.

"I would like to thank everyone present here, and I would like you to help me thank the Alpha ... my husband ... for putting in so much effort to make this a reality." Everyone present clapped, long and warm.

William was smiling.

"I would like to thank the head of manufacturers. He is from Winterwood, but I still want to appreciate his commitment in seeing that this project reached the light of day." There was clapping again, and a few cheers.

"I didn’t want to do this at first," I continued, "but he came, and his words of wisdom gave me the courage to start. And look at it today."

Because of that single initiative, the territory’s gross domestic product skyrocketed by a surprising percentage. And it was all thanks to everyone’s combined effort.

"So ... for love, for peace, and for progress ... I hereby open this company." I cut the ribbon. "Peace Limited, Morvaine."

Everyone erupted. They shared a big cake among all who were present.

And as the founder, I was assigned the role of CEO. I didn’t just see it as an achievement. I saw it as an opportunity for greater works and greater heights.

The kind of responsibility now sitting on my shoulders was not child’s play.

But I had been through so much, and that had only made me stronger. There was nothing I could not carry, because there was nothing I hadn’t already survived.

Plus, William kept saying he was with me through it all.

"I have your back," he kept saying. Because I was his Luna.

I had asked him once what he truly wanted ... what he was seeking to gain from me. He never gave me a straight answer.

"Thank you, William," I said to him again one evening, even though he had told me not to keep saying that. He said we were Alpha and Luna ... equals. But gratitude was in me by default. I couldn’t help it.

The next day I was to make my first appearance as CEO, be assigned my office, and settle into the administrative work. All I could say was that I loved Icefang.

So that night, I decided to sleep in the same bed as William.

I hadn’t done that once since we got married. I had told myself it was my pride. That I didn’t like him. But as time went by, I began to see that he was not what I had thought he was.

Why did they always change when they came into contact with me.

William was already in bed when I climbed in. He turned to look, confirming it was me.

"You’re deciding to sleep here tonight? I’m happy ... are you okay?" he asked.

I told him yes. Of course I was.

The truth was, I was running from my own thoughts. I didn’t want us to fuck, because the moment things started I knew I might not be able to resist. We were husband and wife. And technically, it was my obligation to fuck him. That reality sat uncomfortably in my chest.

But he never pressured me. He never put me in a position where I couldn’t refuse.

He always gave me a choice. A will. He had said it before ... whenever I was ready.

"I’m just sleeping here tonight. Nothing more," I said, while still lying beside him.

"Okay. That’s fine. Sleep tight ... till tomorrow," he said, and turned his face the other way.

I lay there staring at the back of his head, wondering how and why an alpha could be like this.

The ones I knew ... both real and fictional ... were dominating in every area, including their she-wolves.

But not William.
