Chapter 257: Chapter 257 He overheard
_Ezekiel’s POV_
I pressed my foot against the gas pedal, my car speeding down the highway back toward the city. Rowena’s text message was still open on my phone, sitting on the passenger seat beside me.
She had sent a second brief message right after the first one, telling me to make sure Alaric also doesn’t know and make sure to go straight to the central hospital and ask for Kyle the second I arrived.
My hands gripped the steering wheel tight. My mind was spinning with endless questions. Why was she at the hospital? Why was she hiding her location from Alaric and all? None of it made any sense, but the urgent need in her message made my stomach twist into knots.
An hour later, I pulled into the hospital parking lot. I ran through the front sliding doors, ignoring the busy reception desk, and went straight toward the private medical offices on the second floor.
The hallway was already quiet at this hour; most of the doctor offices were closed for the evening. As I approached Kyle’s office at the end of the hall, I noticed the door was slightly open.
I stopped a few feet away, preparing to knock, when I heard Kyle’s voice coming from inside.
"The poison is working smoothly," Kyle said, his tone flat, cold, and entirely unbothered. "I poured it into her drink and soup at dinner last night. She swallowed every drop."
I froze in my tracks. My breath hitched in my throat, my feet glued to the ground.
"She thinks she is just suffering from early pregnancy exhaustion, yes.” Kyle continued with a small chuckle over the phone. "Nope, she has no idea the chemical is destroying her heart lining right now. She even asked me to hide her condition from the pack and her lover. I will give her the final injection tonight to finish her off before the child forms properly."
There was a brief pause as the person on the other end of his call responded.
"Of course," Kyle said. "Drake’s father will be fully avenged by tomorrow morning. Both Rowena and Alaric’s unborn child will be dead, and no one will ever trace it back to us."
My jaw dropped in sheer, unfiltered horror.
My whole body went completely numb, my heart hammering violently against my ribs like a trapped bird.
First, Rowena was right about Kyle all along. Every suspicion she had, every doubt we brushed off, he really was the dirty spy working for Drake.
Secondly, Rowena was pregnant with Alaric’s baby.
And lastly, the sheer level of deception made my stomach turn inside out. How had this man hidden his true nature so perfectly? He had acted like a gentle, caring hero who saved Rowena’s life, while secretly planning to murder her and her unborn baby in cold blood. He wasn’t just a quiet doctor. He was a ruthless beast hiding behind a human face.
I slowly took a step backward, my boots making zero sound on the floor. I pulled out my phone but ignored it, opening my internal mindlink instead to connect straight to Pierre.
“Pierre!” I called out desperately through the mental connection, my mind trembling with panic. “Pierre, can you hear me?! Rowena is in massive danger! Kyle is the spy! He poisoned her, and she is pregnant—“
Pierre wasn’t receiving my mindlink. Damnit.
I cut the link, turned on my heel, and sprinted down the hallway toward the stairwell as fast as my legs could carry me. I needed to reach Alaric and the pack’s security team right now.

_Kyle’s POV_
I sat at my desk, slowly lowering my phone from my ear after finishing the call with my handler.
As I set the phone down on the surface, my eyes caught a shadow moving past the narrow crack in my office doorway. I stood up, walked over to the door, and pulled it open completely.
Down at the far end of the hallway, a dark leather jacket disappeared around the corner toward the stairwell doors.
I recognized that jacket instantly. It belonged to Prince Ezekiel.
I stood in the hallway for a moment, letting out a long, slow sigh. I rubbed the bridge of my nose, feeling a slight bit of disappointment. Ezekiel had clearly arrived earlier than expected, and based on the frantic way he ran down those stairs, he had overheard every single word of my phone call.
He knew about the poison. He knew about the pregnancy, and most especially, who I’m working for. He knew about Drake.
"What a shame," I whispered to myself, stepping back into my office and closing the door.
Ezekiel was a prince, but he was far too sloppy and emotional to be playing in a game this dangerous. I could not afford to let him reach the Ebon Moon packhouse. If he managed to deliver that news to Alaric, my entire setup would be ruined before I could give Rowena her final dose of poison.
I picked my phone back up off the desk, unlocked the screen, and dialed my chief operative’s private burner number.
The call connected on the first ring.
"Doctor," the rough voice answered on the line. "Is the Marchioness dead yet?"
"Not yet," I said, my voice completely calm and even as I looked out my office window at the parking lot below. "We have a slight complication. Prince Ezekiel was standing outside my office door. He overheard the entire plan, and he is currently rushing back to tell Alaric and the others that Rowena is in danger."
There was a curse on the other end of the line. "Do you want us to intercept him on the road?"
"Yes," I ordered flatly, my eyes cold as ice. "Take two armed teams and block the main highway out of the hospital district. Kill Prince Ezekiel immediately. He knows far too much, and I unfortunately have to silence him before he reaches the Alpha King."
"Consider it done, Doctor," the operative replied before hanging up the phone.
I set my phone down, pulled a fresh syringe out of my desk drawer, and filled it with the final dose of chemical liquid.
I held the syringe up to the light, checking the fluid levels with a small, satisfied smile. Ezekiel would be dead on the highway within twenty minutes, and Rowena would breathe her last breath right here in my private ward before the sun came up tomorrow.
Everything was still running exactly according to plan.
