Chapter 255: Chapter 255 No one has to know that

_Rowena’s POV_

I finished the last spoon of soup when I returned and set it down on the paper napkin beside my plate. My stomach still felt heavy, and a strange, dull numbness was spreading slowly through my chest.

"Thank you for your help, Kyle," I said, reaching down to grab my purse from the empty chair beside me. "I think I should go home now. I still feel very tired and dizzy."

I stood up from the table, but the moment my feet hit the floor, my knees buckled completely. The lights in the room spun around me in a fast circle, and the floor seemed to rise straight up to meet my face. Everything went completely black before I could even make a sound or call out for help.

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying on a hospital bed under a blanket. The strong smell of medical disinfectant filled my nose. I looked around the small room and saw white walls, closed blinds, and a heart monitor beside my bed.

Kyle was sitting in a chair right next to me, wearing his white doctor coat over his clothes.

"Rowena," Kyle said, his voice soft as he leaned forward in his chair. "Take it easy. Do not try to move too fast. You are at the hospital."

"What happened to me?" I asked, my voice dry and raspy as I tried to sit up against the pillows. "Why did I faint at the restaurant?"

Kyle smiled gently, taking my cold hand into his warm ones. "You fainted because your body is going through big changes right now, Rowena. I brought you to my private wing and ran a quick blood test as soon as we arrived."

He paused for a second, looking straight into my eyes with a calm, serious expression.

"You are pregnant," Kyle said.

I froze completely. My breath caught in my throat, and my mind went blank. I stared at him, unable to process the words he had just spoken to me.

"Pregnant?" I whispered, my voice trembling. "How is that even possible?"

"You are about a week gone," Kyle explained calmly, his tone flat and professional. "The hormone levels in your blood sample are very clear and strong. The child is Alaric’s. The Alpha King’s.

A sudden wave of pure panic hit my chest. My mind raced through all the consequences. If the council elders or Brielle found out about this right now, the entire royal court would turn into total chaos. The elders would accuse me of making up a fake pregnancy to ruin Brielle’s official betrothal, or Brielle’s family would try to target my unborn baby before the marriage.

I reached out and grabbed Kyle’s coat sleeve, looking at him with urgent eyes.

"Kyle, you cannot tell anyone about this," I said firmly, my fingers tightening on his arm. "You must keep this a secret. No one can know, not Alaric, not the elders, and especially not Brielle. Promise me."

Kyle nodded without a single second of hesitation. "I promise, Rowena. I will not put this test into the central hospital network, and I will not tell a single soul in the palace."

I leaned back against my pillow, letting out a long, slow breath. But my body still felt icy cold and strangely weak. My head was throbbing with a dull pain, and my throat felt dry.

"I still feel very sick, Kyle," I murmured, clutching the blanket over my chest. "My heart feels heavy, and I feel so weak I can barely lift my arm."

"That is normal when your body is under this much emotional stress," Kyle said, standing up from his chair and checking the clear IV tube connected to my hand. "You are sick right now, and you need proper medical attention. Since we have to keep this a secret from the palace, I will take care of you secretly myself. I will give you private medicine, bring you meals, and monitor your condition every day until you are strong enough to stand."

I looked up at his face and felt a deep sense of relief. I believed him completely.

"Okay," I agreed softly. "Thank you, Kyle.”

_Kyle’s POV_

I walked out of Rowena’s hospital room, stepping into the hallway and closing the door softly behind me until the latch clicked into place.

Rowena had zero idea what was actually happening inside her body right now. She truly believed her sudden weakness, her cold skin, and her heavy chest pain were just normal symptoms of early pregnancy and physical exhaustion.

That odorless liquid I poured into her soup at the restaurant was slowly destroying her organs from the inside out.

The compound was designed to act quietly and since she was somewhat human, she would never survive it. It attacked the heart lining and weakened the bloodstream line by line, mimicking a sudden, natural failure over the course of a few days.

And my offer to take care of her secretly was the final piece of my trap.

By convincing her to hide her pregnancy from Alaric, Ezekiel, and the everyone, I had completely isolated her from everyone who could save her. She had willingly handed her life over to me without a fight. Every private injection I would give her under the fake excuse of protecting her baby would simply accelerate the poison in her veins and finish her off completely.

Poor Rowena would be sitting in my ward, drinking the poisoned water, and slipping closer to death every hour. It’s supposed to be slow and steady.

By the time she would finally realize something was wrong, by the time she would want to call anyone or cry out for help, her throat and lungs would be far too weak to make a single sound. She would never make it out of that bed alive.

They’ll see her often of course and not know something was wrong.

Maybe I should convince her to lie about a trip, anything to expose Brielle’s lie and tell them she won’t be able to be contacted.

That way, she could stay with me and I can do my thing slowly.

The real pregnant one was Rowena, not Brielle Logan. But no one has to know that.
