The Luna You Betrayed Is No Longer Yours
Chapter 244 Secret Confrontation
Chapter 244: Chapter 244 Secret Confrontation
_Brielle’s POV_
The room was quiet after Kristy finally left to go harass the other unlucky people.
I stood in front of the big bathroom mirror, staring at my reflection under the bright lights. I slowly unbuttoned my robe, pulling the material away to stare directly at my flat stomach.
I reached down to my handbag sitting on the counter. Hidden beneath my makeup pouch were two over-the-counter digital pregnancy tests I had forced one of my family’s old servants to sneak into the hospital earlier this morning.
I had already taken both of them an hour ago.
Both screens were sitting on the counter right now, completely blank, showing a definitive negative result.
A cold, uneasy knot formed in my stomach. I wasn’t pregnant. I knew I wasn’t pregnant. When I did what I did in the hospital lobby, it was a desperate, wild gamble, a lie born out of panic to stop the council from auctioning off my father’s estate. I had fully expected to be thrown into a holding cell the moment the lab drew my blood.
So why on earth did the official test come back positive?
I stared at the white plastic sticks, my brain going into complete overdrive. How did Dr. Kyle pull that off? Why would a respected head physician, a man who had zero personal or financial ties to my family, risk his entire career, his medical license, and his life to fabricate a royal bloodline result for me?
None of it made sense. Kyle was the exact same doctor who had personally rushed to Rowena’s rescue after i tried to kill her in that car accident.
The way he always acted like a loyal saint to the royal court.
So who was Kyle, really? And why was he secretly playing a game that handed me the Luna crown on a silver platter?
I shoved the negative test sticks back into the deep pocket of my robe, my jaw clenching tight. I hated not being in control. If Kyle was running his own hidden agenda behind my back, I needed to know what it was before it blew up in my face and sent me straight to the gallows for treason.
I pulled my robe tight around my waist, tied the belt, and stepped out into the m hallway of the private wing.
The two guards standing outside my door straightened up as I stepped out, but I completely ignored them, striding straight down the corridor toward Kyle’s medical office at the end of the hall. I didn’t knock. I grabbed the handle, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.
Kyle was sitting at his desk, typing away on his computer screen with a focused look on his face. He looked so calm, so respectable, wearing his white doctor coat over a button-down shirt.
When he heard the door slam shut behind me, he looked up, his eyes completely unbothered as he set his pen down on the desk.
"Dr. Brielle," Kyle said, his deep voice perfectly polite and composed. "You should be resting in your suite. The elders want you keeping your stress levels low."
I locked the office door behind me with a click and marched straight over to his desk, slamming both of my hands down onto the surface.
"Cut the fake doctor act, Kyle," I spat out, my eyes narrowing as I glared down at him. "There’s no one else in this room. Stop playing innocent."
Kyle slowly leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest. His expression didn’t change for a single second. "I’m not sure what you’re talking about, Brielle. Is your room uncomfortable? Do you need a different prescription for morning sickness?"
"I said stop lying!" I hissed, my teeth gritting so hard my jaw pained. "I took two private tests in my bathroom an hour ago! They were both completely negative! I am not pregnant, Kyle, and you know it!"
Kyle raised an eyebrow, looking at me with almost patronizing sigh. "Over-the-counter tests are notoriously unreliable in early stages, Brielle. The royal lab’s equipment is far more sensitive. The blood panel I ran yesterday clearly showed Alaric’s Alpha markers in your system. You are carrying his child."
"Don’t lie to my face!" I yelled, my voice dropping angrily as I leaned over the desk. "I know my own body! I haven’t slept with Alaric at all and I lied! That night at the resort was a complete setup, and I made up the pregnancy story just to buy myself time! I am not carrying his baby, so why did you tell the elders that I was?!"
Kyle stood up slowly from his chair. He didn’t look panicked. He didn’t look scared even, he just looked at me with a flat, emotionless stare that sent a strange, icy chill running down my spine.
"I don’t understand what you’re trying to say, Brielle," Kyle said calmly, his tone completely flat, like he was reading off a script. "The lab results are official. They are logged into the central network under my clearance. As far as the pack, the council elders, and the Alpha King are concerned, you are pregnant with the royal heir."
"Why are you doing this?!" I demanded, pure rage and terror mixing together in my chest. "What are you hiding, Kyle?! What is your real game here?!"
Driven by sheer frustration, I lunged forward across the desk, grabbing the front lapels of his white lab coat in my fists, tugging him closer. "Answer me! Who are you working for?!"
Before Kyle could open his mouth to reply, a sudden, click echoed through the room.
The office door swung open with a slow creak.
Standing in the open doorway was Alaric.
His massive frame completely filled the doorframe, dressed in a dark suit. His face was solemn as his eyes burned with a terrifying intensity as he looked straight at my hands clutching Kyle’s coat collar.
"Am I interrupting something?" Alaric’s, guttural voice boomed through the room, cold enough to freeze the blood in my veins.
