The Luna You Betrayed Is No Longer Yours
Chapter 240 Little Suspicion
Chapter 240: Chapter 240 Little Suspicion
_Rowena’s POV_
The wait outside the hospital’s testing wing felt like hours, even though the clock on the wall said only twenty minutes had passed.
The silence in the corridor was broken only by Mrs Logan’s constant pacing across the tiled floor. She kept smoothing down her coat, throwing smug, dirty looks in my direction every time she walked past where Alaric and I were standing.
Finally, the glass doors swung open.
Kyle walked out carrying a digital clip file. His expression was completely professional.
"The blood panel and DNA marker screening are complete," Kyle announced, his deep voice carrying down the hall.
Mrs Logan rushed forward, practically shoving the elder out of her way. "Well?! Tell them, Doctor! Tell this outsider that my daughter is carrying the Alpha King’s child!"
Kyle didn’t look at her. He turned the screen toward Alaric and the elders, pressing a key to display the official laboratory seal.
"The blood test is positive," Kyle said. "The hormonal levels confirm an early pregnancy, and the preliminary genetic markers match Alpha Alaric’s bloodline profile."
A loud, triumphant gasp erupted from Brielle’s mother’s mouth. She clapped her hands together, throwing her head back with a hysterical laugh that sounded evil.
"I knew it!" She shrieked, her voice full of nasty joy as she whirled around to point a finger directly at my face. "I told you! You hear that, Rowena?! It’s positive! Now take your cheap clothes and get out of this hospital! Get out of this pack! You are nothing here anymore!"
"Watch your tongue," Alaric’s voice boomed, but the sheer, deadly threat behind it made the entire hallway drop three degrees in temperature.
He stepped directly in front of me, his massive frame completely blocking her from my sight. His Alpha aura flared up so fast and cold that Mrs Logan choked on her own breath, staggering back two steps until her heels hit the wall.
"You will not speak to Rowena like that ever again," Alaric growled, his eyes burning with pure, murderous rage. "If you open your mouth to disrespect my mate one more time, I will have you dragged out of this building by your hair, pregnancy or no pregnancy."
Mrs Logan turned deathly pale, swallowing hard as she clutched her fur collar against her throat. "Alaric... I am simply defending your child’s mother—"
"I don’t care what you think you are doing," Alaric cut her off coldly. "Shut your mouth and stand back."
Terrified by the violence radiating off him, she quickly backed away, smoothing her hair with trembling hands and muttering under her breath as she hurried back to Brielle’s room.
"Now that the pregnancy is officially confirmed," And elder spoke up, stepping forward with a serious look on his old face, "we must address the Logan family estate. Under royal law, the mother of an Alpha heir cannot live in poverty or face asset seizure. Everything taken from the Logan family must be immediately restored."
Alaric didn’t answer right away. His hands were clenched into tight fists at his sides, his chest heaving as if he were fighting off a physical blow.
I stood beside him, my mind spinning at a thousand miles a second.
Something was wrong. Every single instincts I had in my body was screaming that this was a trap. The timing was too clean. The sudden reappearance, the collapse, the instant positive test right before her family’s estate was auctioned off... it was all too convenient.
But looking at the official laboratory seal on Kyle’s screen, I had zero physical proof to back up my gut feeling.
Alaric suddenly grabbed my wrist, his grip tight but gentle, and pulled me down the side corridor, far away from the elders and the noise.
The second we were hidden behind a pillar, Alaric leaned his back against the wall, running both hands through his hair. The powerful, terrifying Alpha King looked completely shattered.
"Rowena," he choked out, his voice rough and laced with deep distress as he looked down at me. "I swear to you... I don’t remember it. I swear on my life, on my wolf, on everything I am. I never remembered."
He looked at me with such raw, desperate fear in his dark eyes, fear that I would turn my back on him, fear that I would walk away, that my heart broke into a million pieces.
I didn’t hesitate for a single second. I stepped straight into his space, wrapped my arms tightly around his waist, and buried my face against his chest.
"I believe you, Alaric," I whispered firmly into his shirt. "I believe you."
Alaric froze for a fraction of a second, completely shocked by my words. Then, he wrapped his arms around me like a drowning man holding onto a lifeline, burying his face in the crook of my neck, letting out a long breath.
"You... you believe me?" he breathed out, his grip on me tightening until there wasn’t an inch of space between us. "Even with the test?"
"I know you," I said, pulling back slightly to look straight into his eyes. "You don’t lie to me. Ever. If you say you didn’t touch her, then you didn’t touch her. There is something wrong with that test, Alaric, and I am going to find out what it is."
He looked at me with such overwhelming devotion that it made my breath hitch, but I gave his chest a firm pat and turned around. I needed facts, not emotions.
I walked straight back down the main hallway toward the private testing lab. I pushed the doors open and walked inside.
Kyle was standing near the digital analyzer machine, cleaning a glass tray. He looked up when I walked in, setting the tray down on the silver counter.
"Rowena," Kyle said gently, his tone full of sympathy. "I’m sorry you had to go through that out there. Mrs. Logan is insufferable."
"Kyle," I said flatly, stopping on the other side of the stainless steel table. "Show me the full testing log. Every single step."
Kyle paused, looking at me with mild surprise. "Rowena, the results are clear. I ran the panel twice—"
"I don’t care," I cut him off, keeping my voice cool and unyielding. "Show me the raw blood data and the machine calibration logs right now."
Kyle stared at me for a long moment, then let out a sigh. He pulled up his digital tablet, tapped a few keys, and turned the screen around to face me, showing me the entire chain of custody, the digital blood markers, and the automated machine readings.
Everything looked completely legit. The timestamps matched, the blood panel codes were locked, and the Alpha genetic overlay was clearly highlighted in green.
"I did the proper procedure myself, Rowena," Kyle said softly, looking straight into my eyes with total honesty. "I didn’t let any other technician handle the sample. She is really pregnant, and the markers match Alaric’s bloodline. I wouldn’t lie to you about something like this."
I stared at the green numbers on the screen, my jaw clenching tight. The data was sitting right in front of my eyes, perfectly clean, leaving no room for doubt. But as I looked at Kyle’s calm, helpful face, a tiny, icy needle of suspicion remained buried deep in the back of my mind.
