Chapter 234: Chapter 234 Happy Teasing

_Alaric’s POV_

The shower was running behind the bathroom door, making a little noise in the room.

I was sitting on the edge of the bed buttoning up a black shirt when a phone started buzzing on the nightstand. I reached over and picked it up. The name on the screen made my whole body go tense.

Kyle.

My jaw clenched so tight it actually hurt, why did he have her personal number anyway? Hospital stuff was supposed to go through the official desk. He had zero reason to call my woman’s cell phone so early in the morning.

I didn’t even think, I just swiped the red button and cut the call off.

I tossed the phone back on the nightstand, my chest burning with anger. But before I could even finish my cuff, the screen lit right back up. The exact same name was flashing, and the phone was buzzing even harder.

I grabbed it, swiped to answer, and shoved it to my ear.

"Rowena," Kyle said before I could open my mouth. His voice was way too calm. "Sorry to call so early, but I needed to—"

"She’s busy," I growled, making my voice as harsh as possible.

It went totally quiet on his end for a second. I could practically see his smug face in my head.

"Ah. Alpha King," Kyle said, not sounding scared at all. "Good morning to you, too. Is Rowena there, or are you just answering her calls now?"

"If you call her private phone again," I snapped, standing up from the bed, "I will personally revoke your medical license and throw you out of this pack."

"Look, I’m her doctor and now her friend," Kyle said, his voice maddeningly calm. "I check on my patients and friend, It’s my job. You might want to calm down a little."

"She doesn’t need you," I barked. "She has me."

"Right. Because glaring at people is definitely going to heal her," Kyle said dryly. "Just tell her I need to speak with her about—"

I didn’t let him finish, I slammed my thumb on the red button and hung up on him, breathing heavily as I fought the urge to throw the phone across the room.

"Who was that?" a calm voice asked.

I turned around, Rowena was standing near the bathroom door with a towel wrapped around her body, her wet hair hanging over her shoulders. She had her arms crossed, looking at me with one eyebrow raised.

I dropped the phone on the bed and let out a frustrated sigh. "Kyle."

A little smirk crossed her lips, she didn’t yell at me or grab her phone. She just shook her head and walked over to the wardrobe to get her clothes.

"I’ll give you some room to get dressed," I grumbled, stepping toward the door.

Rowena stopped and turned to look at me, her eyes completely calm. "Sit down on the bed, Alaric."

I blinked. "What?"

"I said sit down," she repeated, pulling out a black dress and underwear. I’d made arrangements before we arrived here yesterday. She gave me a little look. "You were staring at my phone like you wanted to bite someone’s head off. Sit down and watch me get dressed. It’ll calm you down."

My bad mood completely vanished, a wide grin spread across my face, and I didn’t hesitate for a second. I walked right back over, sat on the edge of the bed, and watched her.

_Rowena’s POV_

An hour later, the sun was high in the sky.

Alaric left for the main office with Gabriel to check on morning security, while I took a car straight to the Ashthorne house to see Nana Seraphine.

When I walked into the bright living room, I stopped dead in my tracks.

Ezekiel, Pierre, and Kasper were all crammed onto the sofas. Ezekiel was lying flat on his back with a pillow over his face, while Pierre sat next to him sipping tea calmly. Kasper was typing fast on a laptop near the window.

"What is going on here?" I asked, putting my bag down. "Why are you all sitting in my living room?"

Ezekiel pulled the pillow off his face and let out a loud, miserable groan. "Don’t yell, Rowena. My head is pounding. We’ve been awake for over thirty hours straight checking security logs and looking for leads."

"Still nothing on Brielle?" I asked, sitting down across from them.

"Nothing," Pierre answered, setting his teacup down. "She completely vanished. No bank cards, no car, nothing. She’s being way more annoying than Virella ever was."

"Virella was at least dramatic," Ezekiel complained, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. "Brielle just disappeared into thin air. I say we stop looking for today, go to that club downtown, get super drunk, and let Alaric handle everything."

I shot him a cold glare. "If you go to a club right now, Ezekiel, I’m putting you on trash duty." Ezekiel has been helping me like my little assistant.

Ezekiel held his hands up fast. "Okay, fine. You never let anyone have fun."

Before I could answer, my phone buzzed in my bag. I pulled it out and saw Kyle’s name on the screen. Thinking back to Alaric’s dramatic freak out this morning, I couldn’t help but smile a little as I answered it.

"Kyle," I said. "What’s up?"

"Rowena," Kyle said clearly. "Sorry to call again, but we have a problem at the hospital. The Logan family lawyers asked to move Brielle’s old medical files. Since their money is frozen, I need your signature or Alaric’s to block it before they try to mess with the records."

"I’ll be there in twenty minutes," I told him. "Keep them locked until I get there."

"Got it. Drive safe," he said, and hung up.

I stood up and grabbed my bag. "I have to go to the hospital. Keep checking those logs, Ezekiel."

"Yeah, yeah, boss," Ezekiel sighed, standing up to stretch his arms. But as his eyes landed on me, he stopped mid stretch. His jaw dropped, and a huge, wicked grin spread across his face.

He let out a loud, obnoxious whistle.

"Oh wow," Ezekiel laughed, pointing a finger right at my neck, just above my collar. "Look at that! Someone had a crazy night!"

I kept my face completely blank, refusing to give him a reaction. Right near my collarbone was a dark red mark Alaric had left on my skin before I left the penthouse.

Pierre leaned forward and started laughing, while even Kasper looked up from his laptop with a smirk.

"Where were you last night, Rowena?" Ezekiel teased loudly, wiggling his eyebrows. "Who bit you like that? Was the Alpha King trying to mark his territory so the doctor stays away?"

"Just shut it, Ezekiel," I said instead, turning around and walking out the door without breaking my stride.

Behind me, the whole room erupted into loud laughter and teasing shouts as I walked out into the sunshine.
