The Lucky Farmgirl
Chapter 2588 - 2562: Deterioration
Manbao carried back a pile of books, certainly not intending to read them all by herself.
She not only gathered medical assistants from the Imperial Hospital but also sent for Zhou Liru and several students with better academic performance from the medical department to come to the palace, setting up three tables for them to copy the books individually.
Previously, they couldn’t borrow these books, but now that they could, she was determined to have them copied. One copy would be kept at the Imperial Hospital, another at the Chongwen Pavilion, and she would slowly copy another for her personal use, so she could read them wherever she wanted.
Zhou Liru and the others suddenly summoned to the palace, surpassing the usual place where they treated palace servants, directly stepped into the realm of the Imperial Hospital.
Entering the Imperial Hospital, looking at the place of their dreams, everyone was overwhelmed with emotions. Though they kept their heads down, their eyes couldn’t help but curiously glance around.
The people in the Imperial Hospital were very busy, and the medical assistant who brought them directly led them to Zhou Man.
Manbao scanned over them, very satisfied, recognizing all of them as her students whose medical skills were decent and, importantly, whose handwriting wasn’t difficult to read. So she kept two books for herself and distributed the remaining eight among them to begin copying at the hastily assembled tables.
She said, "These medical books were borrowed from the Hanlin Academy. Be careful not to stain the books while copying."
She paused and added, "These copied books will become valuable assets of the medical department in the future, so make sure to copy them carefully."
Everyone responded loudly, then sat upright, cautiously opening the books placed in front of them.
A medical book is so hard to obtain. Many students in the medical department, due to lacking access to external learning materials, could only start practicing with a single medical book inherited at home.
Therefore, even if Zhou Man didn’t mention it, they wouldn’t dare to damage the medical books.
Seeing that they were obedient, Manbao nodded in satisfaction and picked up a medical book to read on her own. Just now, she quickly glanced through it and found some familiar cases inside.
Manbao turned the pages.
Unfortunately, a case recorded in one of the books ended in death, but the medication and treatment methods could serve as reference;
Another case resulted in survival, where the patient fell from a mountain and hit their head, causing bleeding and a large bump. The patient was in a coma for three days before being found by a doctor named Yuan, who prescribed medication to reduce swelling and bruising, and performed acupuncture to bleed. The patient woke up five days later, but had lost their sight and part of their memory.
Manbao reviewed their treatment methods, deducing back and forth, and seemed to have some insights.
She closed the book and returned to her small resting room to try it out on a model.
Noticing Zhou Man leaving, several students quietly lifted their heads, glanced around, and exchanged looks with Zhou Liru, "Hey, Zhou, do you think we can come back tomorrow?"
Zhou Liru replied calmly, "How would I know? But I know if we perform well today, we might be invited again. If not, the teachers might choose other students."
After hearing this, everyone immediately straightened their backs, slowing down their writing pace, making their handwriting increasingly neat and beautiful.
Manbao closed the door and windows, eagerly going in to perform various tests on the model, but upon entering, she was stunned, "What happened to it?"
Keke glanced at it and said, "The host set it to keep experimenting in a simulated environment."
Isn’t this your own setting?
The classroom is a private space, and the system wouldn’t tamper with it.
Of course, Manbao knew it was her own setting, but, "How is it terminal? It was fine when I went out yesterday."
"Does the host need a diagnostic service?"
After a brief pause, Manbao rolled up her sleeves and said, "I’ll take a look first."
Manbao stepped forward, and as soon as she lifted its head to examine it, it sounded an alarm, and red lights lit up, indicating it had lost vital signs, effectively dead.
Manbao: ...
She was unwilling; how could it die?
The last surgery she was very careful, merely draining some intracranial bruising and adjusting two displaced skull fragments. She thought this approach would work better than relying entirely on medication, resulting in now it was dead.
Manbao pursed her lips, grabbed a scalpel, and dissected its head to find out the cause.
Manbao silently stared at the intracranial injuries.
Keke asked, "Does the host still need a diagnostic?"
Manbao set down the scalpel, "It died from infection, but I set the environment to be disinfected before I left and treated the wound, how did it get infected so severely in one day? Let’s diagnose it, including the environment."
Keke gleefully deducted two points from her score, delivering the report in a short while, sending it directly to her email.
Manbao habitually printed it into a paper copy, then took it out of her spatial storage, sitting cross-legged on the bed to read.
Indeed it was an infection; the microbial count in the air was high. Even in a disinfected environment, without it being sterile, it still became infected.
Moreover, the cranial inflammation was rapid, and since Manbao wasn’t monitoring it constantly, she missed the best opportunity to save it, hence...
Manbao sighed sadly, "It’s springtime~" when everything was reviving, the time when getting sick easily led to infections.
After sighing, Manbao suddenly realized, eyes wide, immediately tossing the documents into her spatial storage, jumping off the bed, putting on shoes to rush outside.
Imperial Doctor Zheng was just about to look for her, "Imperial Doctor Zhou, I was just wanting to discuss the medical department’s books for the second half of the year with you..."
Manbao had already run past him, waving, "Later."
And darted off.
Manbao exited the Imperial Hospital, entering places within palace regulations that could bring punishment, but despite the urgency, she suppressed her speed, walked quickly without running, feet barely touching the ground, moving swiftly forward.
Passing palace maids and eunuchs were surprised to see her, then noticed the direction she was heading, their eyes darkened with various determinations.
Sweating profusely, Manbao arrived at the Eastern Palace, where Zheng Erlang was staying, it was bustling. Zheng Wang and State Duke Pi Lu Zhongyan were anxiously walking around the yard, surrounding her upon seeing her, asking, "Did you find a method?"
Manbao stopped, "What are you all doing here?"
A medical assistant ran out from inside, "Imperial Doctor Zhou, Imperial Doctor Liu was just about to send me to find you, Young Master Zheng has developed a fever."
Manbao pushed past Zheng Wang and the others to enter, immediately palace servants brought warm water and clean cloths.
Manbao washed her hands, wiped her face, then approached to examine Young Master Zheng.
Imperial Doctor Liu was treating his head wound, giving her space to check, saying, "See, the wound has worsened."
Manbao saw it, helplessly saying, "I see."
