Manbao said, "The acupuncture technique before the blood flow is interrupted is the same. My apprentice is quite good at acupuncture, she’s more than capable of doing this."

Madam Tang smiled and said to her, "I’m hoping you’ll come once more when she needs a change of medication and acupuncture techniques, and provide her with two new methods."

Manbao thought for a moment, then nodded and said, "When the time comes, send a message to Bai Shan and have him inform me. If I can take leave, I certainly will. If not, let Sanniang write a diagnosis and send it to me, and I’ll convey the prescription back."

However, Liu Sanniang’s diagnosis still couldn’t match Zhou Man’s, so it was best to see for oneself.

After giving the prescription and delegating the acupuncture to Assistant Doctor Liu, Manbao prepared to get up and bid farewell.

But Madam Tang grabbed her with a laugh and said, "What’s the rush? Your scholarly brother will be better soon; meet him before you leave."

She said with a bright smile, "He mentioned he has a book to give you. Come, let’s talk in the study."

Having said that, she pulled Manbao along and instructed Aunt Ma and others, "Speak quietly when coming and going, serve your Madam well, don’t disrupt her rare peace."

Aunt Ma promptly agreed with a group of subordinates.

Madam Tang’s gaze slid over Xia He and Xia Cao, seeing them standing with lowered heads in the corner; her expression turned cold, and she went off with Manbao, smiling brightly.

Liu Sanniang and Zhou Liru, carrying medicine boxes, followed. When they reached the main courtyard, Madam Tang’s personal maid, with a beaming smile, tried to pull them away for tea and snacks.

Liu Sanniang and Zhou Liru hesitated momentarily, looking toward Manbao.

Manbao nodded to them, and only then did they leave with the maids.

Madam Tang smiled and led her inside. Only after the servant served tea and left did she look at Manbao and say, "Dear sister, you’re not hiding things from me like your apprentice, are you?"

Manbao curiously asked, "Why don’t you directly ask her? After all, this is the patient’s privacy and it’s inappropriate for us doctors to disclose."

Madam Tang sneered, "Didn’t you see the vigilant people watching over her? Even if I found an excuse to dismiss them, they’ll probably be back in no time, and she’s got a mouth like a clammed-up gourd. Otherwise, her family wouldn’t have remained ignorant of her grievances."

Manbao sipped her tea, thought for a moment, then said, "I suggested she stay here for six months to a year."

Madam Tang chuckled, "I knew you did it on purpose..."

"No, I really didn’t do it on purpose," Manbao said, "The illness truly requires over six months of treatment, whether it takes a year is uncertain."

Madam Tang’s smile slightly faded, "Is it that serious?"

Manbao nodded.

Madam Tang was clawing at her heart, grabbing Manbao’s hand and asking, "Honestly, why did she miscarry? Was it because she stood for too long? Poor diet? Or was she poisoned?"

Madam Tang gritted her teeth, saying, "Could it be that the Ma Family imposed regulations on her? Or unrest in the residence..."

Manbao lowered her eyes, contemplating for a while before raising her eyes back to Madam Tang, "I found some scars on her body, felt the bones, they seem to have been broken before. While I’m not certain, her chest has a rib that’s still in a fractured state."

Madam Tang’s eyes widened with shock and anger, speechless for a moment.

"You, she!" Madam Tang took a few deep breaths, trying to control her temper. Still, she stood up abruptly, pacing twice before intently staring at Zhou Man, "You didn’t feel wrong?"

Manbao said, "If it were before, I wouldn’t be so sure, but after touching so many bones on the journey to the Western Regions, I’m not mistaken."

"Why didn’t you ask her at the time?"

Manbao lifted her gaze at her, saying, "Ask her what? Those words aren’t meant for her ears but for you, her relatives. How do you think she’d respond?"

Madam Tang got furious and slammed the table, yelling, "Someone—"

Manbao felt a surge of excitement; even though meddling in someone else’s internal household affairs wasn’t good, she still wanted to know.

Madam Tang’s personal maid entered hurriedly, "What does the Madam command?"

Madam Tang’s anger cooled at the sight of Manbao’s excitement. She lowered her gaze to think for a moment, and when she looked up, she was much calmer, "Go to the guest courtyard, call Xia He or Xia Cao over, say I found some items from my private store that were part of my dowry, some frequently used when we lived in my maiden home. Make sure Rui Le enjoys her recovery; let them pick what she might like and missing to furnish her place."

The maid paused in surprise before agreeing and leaving.

Madam Tang gathered herself, then lightly tapped Manbao’s forehead, "What’s with that expression? Drop that theater-watching look. Come on, let me see you out."

Manbao exclaimed, "You’re seeing me off already?"

"Dear ancestor, just take a look at the time outside."

Manbao glanced outside, realizing the sun was setting in the west, and jumped up in fright.

Madam Tang rose, adjusted her sleeves, and said, "Come on, let me see you out. You still need to get home. Bai Shan should be waiting at home by now. If you don’t hurry back, he’ll come himself to fetch you."

Manbao, feeling regretful, left. Although she was curious, she didn’t ask Madam Tang to tell her the truth in the future, nor did she plan to later ask Wang Ruile for the truth. After all, the cause was already identified, and even without her saying, she could treat it. So why tear open someone else’s wound?

It was one thing for her to learn inadvertently, but there was no need to investigate intentionally.

She informed Madam Tang because, firstly, as family, Madam Tang had the right to know. Secondly, she held Wang Ruile in good regard and felt compelled to tell Madam Tang.

Manbao’s smile was slightly cold. Madam Tang aside, with her bad temper, Lord Tang was no pushover either. To have been beaten like that and watched constantly, hrmph!

Manbao led Liu Sanniang and Zhou Liru back, while Madam Tang stood at the doorway, watching their carriage drive far away, her smile collapsing instantly.

County Magistrate Tang, trotting his horse along another road, froze at a distance upon seeing. Trembling a little, he immediately reined in his horse, planning to turn back and work overtime at the county governmental office.

But Madam Tang had already heard the sound, turned to look over, and saw him. Her eyes lit up, so she waved at him.

The County Magistrate Tang had to ride back with mingling wisdom and knowledge, plastered with a radiant smile. After dismounting, he glanced in the direction the carriage left and asked with a smile, "How did you know I was coming back and specially came to the door to greet me?"

Madam Tang said, "It wasn’t specifically to greet you, coincidentally sending Manbao off. I thought you’d be back soon, so I took a few extra moments."

What a lie, she clearly saw him while turning to go back.

Yet County Magistrate Tang beamed, "Dear wife, you’re truly wonderful."
