The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!
Chapter 1882 - 517: Mia Shows Her True Skills Upon Entering the Maze
His expression was meticulous, almost as if the words "strangers keep out" were etched on his face.
The line slowly advanced, and finally, a Flame Demon with black smoke billowing from his head squeezed to the front of the table.
He was burly, his burning face exuding determination, and every step forward made the obsidian floor tremble helplessly.
"I am Brand!"
He forcefully pounded his rock-hard chest, belching out a flame with sparks as his roar shook the interviewer's glasses askew.
Not noticing the interviewer's darkening face, he bellowed loudly with his robust voice.
"…Brand will incinerate everything in sight to ashes! Be it the Tree of Life of the elves or the villages of humans! Just one order from Senior Spirit—cough, Lord Demon King—and Brand can crush Saint Clement Cathedral!"
This blustering demeanor would just turn him into a punching bag for adventurers in the maze.
The interviewer, expressionless, pushed his glasses up and coldly stamped a bright red "Unqualified" on his résumé.
"Next."
Brand's flame-filled eyes widened in disbelief as he shouted, "Why? Am I not strong enough?"
The interviewer adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose and gave him a glance as if looking at a fool, adding a hint of mockery to his meticulous voice.
"The Northeast Shore of Vortex Sea is human territory; where do you get an elf forest to burn? Clearly, you haven't been paying attention in class. Geography is the most basic of Demon King courses, I suggest you make up the ones you failed first."
This kind of fool would just create chaos for Miss Padric; she needs demons who can get things done, not this useless fire-starter.
Brand was taken aback.
What the heck?
How did this guy know about my failed courses?
The records should have been erased!
Before the bewildered young Flame Demon could leave, a short goblin skillfully slipped to the front of the table, offering up a "native specialty" hidden in his arms with a fawning smile.
"…Hehe, esteemed interviewer. I am Golden Tooth Gari! You must have heard of my name, from the Gari Tribe! I only want a small position as a leader in a maze, I can provide endless goblin labor for Lord Demon King… cough, this small token is just a gift for you, there will be more benefits in the future!"
Though Gari's stature was not even table height, his flashy attire was enough to blind the magic eye—with ten short, stubby fingers adorned with eight huge gemstone rings and a gold chain around his neck thick as a chain.
Though goblins are at the bottom of the Hell's food chain, he was no ordinary goblin but the son of the chieftain of the Gari Tribe. A goblin who managed to study abroad in Demon City can be considered quite formidable in rural areas.
And that native specialty was clearly no ordinary one, it was top-tier magical materials earned through the labor of goblin workers, worth several million Kaylas!
The interviewer was taken aback by this sudden "fortune," then his face darkened as he stood up righteously, slamming the table.
"Bribery in the open? You have some nerve! This is the Demon King Academy, not your chieftain's tent!"
He angrily waved his hand to summon security.
"Throw this blasphemous thing out! Immediately! Right now!"
What a joke!
With so many eyes watching, this guy dared to brazenly slap this thing on the table? If he had slipped it to him secretly, he would have looked the other way.
Now, he could only confiscate this "black money," and later share it with those colleagues who witnessed it.
Golden Tooth Gari, held up by two towering tauren security guards, blushed as he kicked his short legs in the air, shouting sharply.
"You're discriminating against goblins! I will report you! Let me see the Demon King!"
Fools like this will probably never see the Demon King.
After all, even the Demon King despises fools who are too stupid and roll onto Alakdo's desk.
With a "clang" the door closed, and the world finally quieted down, leaving the fate of the goblin's "blood and sweat" unknown.
Next in line were a pair of timid twin sisters, Kaylee and Nana.
They came from a weak branch family of enchanting demons, sweet and lovely in appearance, yet in a power-worshipping academy, their grades could only be considered average.
They lack the world-destroying destructiveness of Flame Demons, and don't have the simple, crude resources of goblins, standing at the table, their hands trembled from nervousness.
A few snickers from "powerful demons" around could be heard, as the demons seemed to envision the sisters being chased out.
However, the demon second generation didn't laugh; they recalled rumors within their circles and felt a subtle unease.
This time's interview might be unusually deep waters.
It was said that Miss Colin had gone to Thunder County's maze to learn real skills, and Miss Padric was in a hurry to chase after her.
In that case, Miss Padric probably wasn't finding help for Senator Luoyan, perhaps her true aim was to get help for herself.
Why else would the interviewer be from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and not directly from the Demon King Territory?
Damn… too hasty!
"Um… esteemed interviewer…"
Kaylee, the elder sister, lowered her head, her voice as quiet as a mosquito hum.
"We, we are skilled in Spiritual Magic, though not powerful, we can boost morale, enliven the atmosphere… we also can do simple clerical work…"
Nana, the younger sister, plucked up her courage to add, her voice trembling yet resilient.
"Y-Yes, if needed, we can also learn to make human tea! And help with cleaning…"
This weak and feeble self-introduction elicited even louder laughter around them.
A single sentence had them biting their tongues twice, and this lot could handle adventurers?
They'd likely make human heroes laugh their teeth off!
However, when the previously cold interviewer saw them, his fish-like eyes suddenly lit up like magic crystal lamps.
He quickly looked down and flipped through the thick "Management Trainee Recruitment Guidelines" beside him.
Inside the document, personally handed to him by his superior, was a slip of paper with a line of neat handwriting—
"Prioritize hiring enchanting demons, be cautious with vampires. Hire timid ones first, and avoid those who are too scheming and ambitious."
The interviewer adjusted his glasses, his gaze sweeping over the twins' faces filled with "I'm easy to bully," and for the first time, he smiled warmly.
Got it!
Miss Padric cannot handle Lord Demon King alone, so she needs an assistant to prevent the Demon King from being corrupted by vampires!
Looks can be deceiving indeed… heh heh heh.
The demon interviewer, who'd wielded the rubber stamp for unknown years, autonomously understood the note that passed through countless hands.
Thus, the "Hired" stamp, with lightning speed, was decisively imprinted on the sisters' thin résumés.
"Congratulations, you've been hired!"
The noisy queue suddenly fell silent.
The demons who had been mocking them moments ago were dumbfounded, watching in disbelief as the jubilant twins hugged each other and screamed, scattering their jaws all over the floor.
No way—
How is this possible?!
Just what kind of officers is the Demon King Army hiring?!
Two days passed, and the list of recruits quickly emerged. Unexpectedly, half of the names on the long list were enchanting demons.
Professor Lilith, upon hearing of this, was so surprised that she couldn't close her mouth, staring at those flirtatious names while sipping on warm Misty Snow Bud.
"By Bayele… when did little Spirit become so voracious?"
Is human world food so nourishing?
If she had known he was so open, she shouldn't have let him leave the office in the first place.
Professor Lilith lamented to herself, idly twirling the silver lock of her hair.
Ah, she was so close to becoming the vice principal of the Demon King Academy.
Such a shame indeed!
