The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!
Chapter 1789 - 497: The Train Enters the Land of Heroes (Part 4)
If this thing is as miraculous as Prince Colin describes, the farmers of Glanston Castle could sell their freshly picked vegetables to the port of Thunder City!
Instead of borrowing a cart from the lord's servants, spending an entire day traveling to the nearby town, wasting their hard-earned fruits on the bumpy journey!
Once the farmers of the Valley Plain can turn their sweat into money, not only will their lives improve, but the cost of living in Thunder City will also be reduced.
Although selling two more bundles of cabbages won't make them rich, it's certainly better than having nothing at all.
Not just agricultural products, but also the clay, mineral, and timber resources of the Valley Plain, and even the labor itself, can all be linked together by this iron corridor!
The only thing that worries him is the cost. Wood is manageable, but the steel for laying the tracks doesn't seem to be very cheap.
With his back to the increasingly heated whispers behind him, Edward remained silent, but his gaze flickered intensely.
What Andes and Sir Wesley could see, he could also see at this moment, but he saw much further than them.
The potential in economics and military was just the duckweed floating on the surface, what he saw in those tracks was more of the political potential!
If this railway could connect Thunder City, Campbell Castle, Glanston Castle... and all the core territories of the duchy, it would mean that royal decrees, officials, and armies could reach any corner of the duchy within days!
His reforms would no longer be limited to Thunder City, even the farmers living in remote mountain villages could directly benefit from his reforms.
Once the farmers of the Valley Plain no longer need to depend on the authority of the nobles but instead can move freely on the duchy's land, they will be liberated from the ancient feudal obligations.
And this will shatter the foundations of local noble separatism!
The connection between Campbell Castle and the region will be unprecedentedly close, even the Twilight Province beyond the Rapids Pass might be included in the duchy's railway map!
Edward took a deep breath, hiding his excitement.
He turned his head to look at Prince Colin, letting out a sincere sigh.
"The Gutaf United Kingdom truly is a Divine Kingdom favored by the Dragon God, there are quite a lot of good things over there. If it weren't too far away, I'd really want to go and see."
Luo Yan smiled, thinking it's best if you don't.
The most beautiful thing in this world is distance.
If he really went to the coast of the Gana Continent, he would surely be as disappointed as the young men of the Holy Temple Knight Order.
Is there any gold there?
There are quite a few cornfields, but they were all planted by them personally.
"... Your Highness, any miracle on earth, if it can be passed down through the ages, is created by the hands of mortals. It is not a miracle granted by the Dragon God but a miracle of mortals. I believe what the Gutaf Kingdom has, the Campbell Duchy will soon have as well."
"Then I will take your words to heart," Edward smiled, "I hope the Queen of Gutaf won't mind you bringing such interesting things into the Human world."
Luo Yan replied with pleasure.
"This isn't a weapon, I think she won't mind."
Edward's face lit up with joy.
"Great!"
Seeing that His Majesty had asked all the questions, except for the one he was concerned about, Andes hurriedly asked the question for his majesty.
"The cost, Prince Colin, this thing... it shouldn't be cheap, right?"
"There is no need to worry about the cost," Luo Yan smiled slightly, confidently continued, "The steel output of Thunder City is sufficient to support the construction of the railway. Moreover, the orders for building the railway can, in turn, drive the expansion of the steel factories. What we really need to worry about is the land, as the railroad will pass through a lot of owned land."
"Land is not a problem."
Edward's lips curled into a serene smile.
In the recently ended civil war, he had amassed a vast amount of land confiscated from the rebellious nobles and could allocate it wherever needed.
In the distance, the train came back with a whistle, not only did the Lizardman players on it demonstrate their superb driving skills to their Demon King, but they also showcased their reversing technique.
They used a reserved Y-shaped track to separate the locomotive from the cars, then used a steam capstan to rotate an extra segment of track around, reconnecting the locomotive to the carriages, and brought the cargo back exactly as it was.
This seamless operation amazed the engineers from the Royal Mechanical Power Plant who had come to join in the fun.
Who knew the steam engine could be played like this?!
Could it be that Gutaf is actually the Mechanical God?
This is too sacrilegious...
Edward didn't quite think that way, though. While the Mechanical God may be sensitive, the steam engine itself isn't all that sensitive.
The Empire had been using it for quite some time, they just hadn't researched it extensively.
He happily walked up to the boiler of the train, admiring the fearsome steel beast up close, then turned to Colin and said.
"Thank you for bringing such an incredible thing to the Campbell Duchy... Go ahead, Prince Colin! In the name of the royal family, I promise you, we will provide all the necessary support for the laying of this railway! We will always be your strongest backing!"
With Edward's promise, Luo Yan smiled and nodded with pleasure.
"Happy to serve you, Your Highness, although I am not an expert in this field, I can introduce you to professionals."
"Oh?" Edward's face showed a surprised expression, "Where is that person?"
"On the train."
Luo Yan pointed to the Lizardman players on the carriage, who were waving excitedly in this direction, seemingly thrilled that the Demon King had finally looked their way.
They are all players from the "Cemetery Railway Group."
Strictly speaking, it is a joint stock company that landed simultaneously with the "Colin Mining Company," formed almost at the same time as the latter.
The railway from North Peak City to Catastrophe Castle was built by these small professional players, this wave was again a case of "export to domestic sale."
Edward was a bit stunned, obviously not expecting them to be Lizardmen.
But then again, it makes sense, the Gutaf Kingdom itself is a Lizardman kingdom, if the engineers aren't humans, could they be anything but Lizardmen?
He instantly found it reasonable again.
Just as Luo Yan, in the name of Prince Colin, was vividly introducing his "subordinates" to Edward, not far away Vivian was pouting discontentedly, kicking stones on the side of the railway.
She had been in the Human world for more than a month, yet hadn't seen the woman who had tricked her brother out of his Initial Embrace.
Although her brother's integrity was reassuring, she couldn't help but worry whether her brother was intentionally hiding something from her.
Out of boredom, she couldn't help but grumble a bit.
"I don't know what these stupid humans are so surprised about, isn't this thing just the same as the one outside of Black Wind Castle?"
It seemed that this railway was used to transport ores to the Magic Crystal Tank Factory.
Her grandfather was quite interested in this big toy and even introduced one to the real Colin Duchy to transport minerals produced there.
But she wasn't interested in this thing.
A mere five-car train, she could pull it herself!
Looking at her sister inexplicably starting to compete with the train, the accompanying Nanfu weakly smiled, not daring to say anything, much less join in.
Honestly, he didn't know why Brother would move this technology to the Human world's rear, but presumably Representative Luo Yan had his own plans...
