Chapter 225: 225:The unknown Mist [3]
Once inside, the Xu Family members gathered around the sleeping Lin Zhaowen.
Among them, Xu Liang stepped forward and carefully lifted Zhaowen onto his shoulder.
"I’ll take the first lead. Let’s head for Azure Willow City now."
The others nodded without hesitation.
With Lin Zhaowen in Xu Liang’s hand, the group immediately left the house and quietly headed toward Azure Willow City.
The distance between Hollowshade Village and Azure Willow City was not particularly far. Under normal circumstances, the journey could be completed within a single day.
Xu Mei led the group at the front, with two others following closely behind her. Further back was Xu Liang, carrying the sleeping Lin Zhaowen over his shoulder, accompanied by five others. Another two members of the Xu Family guarded the rear.
They had not traveled very far when a group suddenly appeared ahead of them, blocking their path.
Xu Mei immediately stopped.
"Peng Tianyuan."
She spoke his name aloud, instantly alerting everyone behind her.
Standing before them was none other than Peng Tianyuan, the Patriarch of the Peng Clan himself.
Beside him stood a rowdy young man whose face Xu Mei recognized immediately.
Peng Yucheng.
His expression was filled with excitement as he pointed toward Lin Zhaowen, who was still unconscious on Xu Liang’s shoulder.
"Father, that is the kid I told you about!"
Peng Yucheng’s eyes gleamed with resentment.
"Kill him!"
"Shut up," Peng Tianyuan snapped at his son before turning his attention toward Xu Mei.
He looked over the weakened members of the Xu Family and chuckled, "Kids, so this is where the remnants of the Xu Family were hiding. Hmm, I suppose ’hiding’ isn’t exactly the right word, is it? Considering how openly you’ve been operating."
Peng Tianyuan took a step forward, and the Xu Family members instinctively took a nervous step back.
He raised an eyebrow and smiled, "Oh my, why are you backing away? The entire area is already surrounded, you know."
Xu Mei’s expression tightened as she cautiously glanced around, but there wasn’t much visibility so she couldn’t confirm his claim.
Peng Tianyuan continued forward with an almost leisurely pace, his expression relaxed despite the mist surrounding them.
Xu Mei’s eyes suddenly narrowed when she noticed something strange.
"How are you not affected by the mist?" she asked, her voice filled with suspicion.
Peng Tianyuan stopped walking.
A strange grin slowly spread across his face as he looked at her and chuckled, "Curious now, aren’t we?"
Xu Mei’s expression became even more guarded.
Peng Tianyuan rubbed his chin before grinning wider, "Perhaps I’ll indulge you. Do you know why our two clans joined forces to take down your Xu Family?"
Xu Mei’s heart tightened at his words, but she remained silent.
He leaned forward slightly and revealed, "The Xu Family was working on creating this very mist, and our Peng and Hong clans were part of it, you know."
Xu Mei’s expression changed drastically.
Peng Tianyuan’s grin widened as he continued, "Now you must be curious about why we betrayed the Xu Family if we were all working together."
"Run!" Xu Mei suddenly screamed as she charged toward Peng Tianyuan.
Her spiritual qi erupted from her body as she unleashed the cloud stepping steps, a movement martial technique common in the Xu family, her figure shooting forward and closing the distance between them in an instant.
Peng Tianyuan’s eyes barely moved as Xu Mei’s fist approached his face. He casually reached out and caught her by the neck before her attack could land.
Xu Mei’s eyes widened for a brief moment, but then she smiled through the pain and spat, "Go and die, you motherfuc—"
Her words were cut short when Peng Tianyuan twisted his hand with brutal force and snapped her neck.
Xu Mei’s body went limp.
But in that brief moment, the remaining members of the Xu Family had already turned and fled.
Peng Tianyuan stared at their empty positions for a moment before his face darkened with anger. He spun toward the Peng cultivators and shouted, "What are you waiting for? Go and chase them, you idiots!"
His roar echoed through the forest as the Peng cultivators immediately rushed forward, their spiritual qi surging as they chased after the fleeing Xu Family.
"Incompetent fools," Peng Tianyuan grumbled as he watched them disappear into the mist. He then glanced at his son, his expression becoming even more annoyed before he turned his head away.
The Xu Family members did not dare look back as they desperately ran through the mist, their weakened bodies struggling to keep up with one another. They knew they had almost no chance of escaping, but none of them wanted to die without trying.
Behind them, the sound of approaching footsteps grew louder.
Meanwhile, Peng Tianyuan remained where he was, standing beside Xu Mei’s lifeless body.
He glanced down at her corpse before casually wiping the blood from his hand against his sleeve. His expression contained no trace of guilt as he looked toward the surrounding mist with a faint smile.
"This will mark the beginning of a new era," he murmured, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Lin Xuan, I still remember the humiliation you gave me ten years ago, consider this a small payback, I’ll also pay it back hundredfold when I see you."
He turned his head toward the direction of Hollowshade Village before calmly ordering Peng Yucheng, "Now go and burn the village down."
Peng Yucheng hesitated before nervously asking, "But Father, isn’t the Lin Patriarch said to be already in the Nascent Soul Realm according to the news?"
"Hmm, he is," Peng Tianyuan replied with a faint smile, "but I’ve received word that he’ll be entering the mist. Once he enters and we block off the entrance, he’ll be weakened enough for me to deal with him all by myself."
Peng Tianyuan then gave his son a stern look and coldly added, "Now stop embarrassing me any further. Take the two guards you have with you and burn that village down."
