Chapter 222: 222: Awakening Bloodline [2]

More than half an hour later, Lin Xuan finally felt the last of his strength drain from his body.

His legs trembled beneath him, and even lifting his arms felt like an exhausting task.

His entire body felt completely hollow, as though every ounce of energy had been squeezed out of him.

At this moment, Lin Xuan felt so weak that if a mortal appeared before him with nothing more than a stone in hand, he probably would not be able to fight back.

He stared blankly ahead, barely managing to remain conscious.

Then the system’s voice sounded in his mind.

[Bloodline awakening has succeeded.]

Lin Xuan stared at the final line is exhaustion was momentarily forgotten as he focused on the strange number displayed beside it.

"Purity?"

He frowned, his mind struggling to process the information.

"What... How do I even increase that?"

That was the last thought that crossed Lin Xuan’s mind.

His vision blurred, his body finally gave out, and he collapsed onto the ground.

Within moments, he was completely asleep.

Deep within Yew Woods, twelve cultivators were engaged in a fierce battle against a silver wolf.

They wore matching dark-blue robes, each bearing the same cloud-shaped emblem on the chest. They were disciples of the Mystic Sky Sect.

None of the twelve had reached the Nascent Soul Realm, yet they were standing their ground against a Beast King. The reason was the formation surrounding them.

Six disciples maintained the formation while the others launched their attacks. The formation continuously suppressed the silver wolf’s cultivation, forcibly dragging its strength down to a level they could handle.

Without it, the twelve disciples would have been nothing more than prey. With it, however, the Beast King had become a perfect target.

"Sky-Cleaving Palm!" one young disciple shouted as he stepped forward and thrust both palms toward the wolf.

A surge of spiritual qi erupted from his hands, forming a massive translucent palm that crashed toward the silver wolf’s chest.

The wolf twisted its body and narrowly avoided the center of the attack, but another disciple had already moved into position.

"Cloud Piercing Sword!"

A sharp sword light flashed through the forest. The silver wolf raised one claw to block it, but the sword struck its shoulder and forced it several steps backward.

Before it could recover, a third disciple stepped forward and struck the ground with his staff.

"Mountain-Sealing Art!"

Spiritual qi surged through the earth beneath the wolf, causing several stone pillars to rise and trap its legs.

The wolf roared and struggled violently, shattering two of the pillars, but another disciple immediately followed with his attack.

"Falling Star Kick!"

A figure descended from above and slammed a powerful kick into the wolf’s back.

The Beast King’s body crashed into the ground, shaking the surrounding trees.

The disciples did not give it a chance to recover. One after another, they rotated through their positions, each using a different martial technique from the Mystic Sky Sect.

Sword lights, palm strikes, spear thrusts, and waves of spiritual qi continued to rain down upon the silver wolf.

Whenever one disciple finished attacking, another immediately took their place.

Their movements were practiced and coordinated, clearly the result of years of training together.

At the rear of the formation, one disciple remained completely still. Unlike the others, he did not participate in the attack. His job was to watch the surrounding forest.

His eyes swept across the trees, constantly searching for approaching beasts or wandering cultivators who might interfere with their hunt.

Suddenly, his expression changed as he noticed something unusual between two enormous trees several dozen meters away.

At first, he thought it was merely a crack in the ground. But then he realised it was a fracture instead.

It was thin and irregular, almost as though the space itself had been torn open.

A faint mist began to seep through the fracture.

The disciple stared at it, his expression slowly becoming serious. "What is that?"

The mist continued to emerge from the crack, spreading silently through the forest.

He continued watching the fracture for several moments as the mist seeping through it kept growing thicker by every second.

A short moment later, he felt an uneasy feeling settling in his chest.

Whatever was happening, he had no intention of waiting around to find out.

He immediately turned toward his fellow disciples and shouted, "Everyone, stop! A crisis is approaching. Leave the formation behind and head back to the city immediately. Do not continue hunting the Beast King!"

The disciples attacking the silver wolf froze.

Several of them exchanged confused glances.

The silver wolf was already on its last legs. Its movements had become sluggish, and its wounds were steadily weakening it.

If they continued attacking for another half an hour, they were confident they could finish it.

One disciple opened his mouth, clearly intending to point this out.

Before he could say anything, another disciple sighed and interrupted him.

"Don’t bother. He’s Ouyang Jun, after all."

The others looked toward the disciple who had spoken.

He continued with a helpless shrug, "Let’s just obey him. Has anyone ever even managed to convince him otherwise?"

The disciples exchanged glances again and then hesitantly agreed to let it go.

"Alright, let’s go."

"Abandon the formation and withdraw!"

The disciples quickly withdrew their spiritual qi from the formation, and the suppressive force surrounding the silver wolf began to disappear.

The Beast King seemed confused by the sudden change, but the disciples had already turned and begun retreating toward the city.

Ouyang Jun remained at the rear for another moment, his eyes fixed on the strange fracture.

Just then, the silver wolf they had been fighting suddenly staggered into the mist.

The moment its body entered the strange fog, its silver fur began to change.

Before Ouyang Jun’s eyes, the wolf’s fur gradually turned grey, and a faint surge of energy suddenly erupted from its body.

Ouyang Jun’s expression tightened as he could clearly sense that the silver wolf had become stronger.

The increase was not particularly large, but that was not what concerned him.

The strange mist was actually strengthening the monster.

That discovery completely changed the situation.

If the mist continued spreading through Yew Woods and strengthened every beast that entered it, then this was more dangerous than he had initially imagined.

Ouyang Jun immediately turned around and chased after his fellow disciples.
