Chapter 187: 187: Exploring the Consciousness [2]

Lin Xuan’s Nascent Soul continued searching, but there was still nothing to indicate that another consciousness existed within his body.

As he continued forward, he suddenly noticed a faint light in the distance.

The darkness had seemed endless, yet after traveling for some time, he had finally encountered something different.

Lin Xuan frowned slightly.

The longer he remained in this unfamiliar region of his consciousness, the stronger his sense of disorientation became.

It was as though he were slowly losing his sense of direction, and he could no longer tell how far he had traveled or where he had come from.

Fearing that something might go wrong, he immediately moved toward the light without stopping.

The closer he got, the clearer the light became.

Soon, Lin Xuan arrived before an empty room.

The entire room was illuminated by a soft, pale light, and countless sealed cores floated silently within it.

Memory-sealing cores.

Lin Xuan’s expression changed slightly.

So this is where they were kept?

He knew that there were gaps in the memories he had inherited from the original Lin Xuan. However, he had never imagined that there would be so many sealed memories hidden within his consciousness.

He slowly extended his hand toward one of the memory cores.

The moment his fingers touched its surface, the entire room suddenly trembled.

BOOM!

A powerful wave of spiritual energy erupted from the depths of the room.

Lin Xuan’s Nascent Soul immediately stopped moving.

His expression changed.

Something had just responded to his presence.

He immediately spread his senses as far as possible, carefully searching the surrounding darkness only to find absolute nothingness.

After taking several slow breaths, he finally turned his attention back to the memory core.

Whatever had reacted to his presence, it was undoubtedly connected to these memory cores.

This time, instead of touching it directly, Lin Xuan carefully examined the memory core with his spiritual sense.

After a moment, he stopped.

"Obviously, there is a seal," he muttered.

He did not rush to undo it.

First, he did not have the time to deal with whatever might happen after breaking the seal.

Secondly and most importantly, he did not even know how to unseal it in the first place.

Are all of these sealed as well?

With that thought, Lin Xuan began examining the other memory cores.

Contrary to what he had expected, only five of them were sealed.

The remaining memory cores had no seals at all, they had simply been hidden away in this place.

Why are they here? Were these memories sealed by an expert?

If that were the case, it would explain why they had been hidden so deep within his consciousness.

As long as one had not reached the Nascent Soul Realm, there was no way a Golden Core cultivator could even discover this part of the Conscious Sea, let alone enter it.

The Conscious Sea was the most mysterious part of the human body.

Even now, despite having reached the Nascent Soul Realm, Lin Xuan could clearly sense that the Conscious Sea extended far deeper than he had ever imagined.

Reaching the Nascent Soul Realm had granted him greater control over his consciousness, but it certainly had not given him complete control over every corner of it.

The Conscious Sea was truly vast, as vast as the ocean and as unfathomable as the void.

Lin Xuan stared at the memory cores that had not been sealed.

Since the sealed memories could not be opened for now, he decided to examine the others one by one.

He carefully reached out and grasped one of the memory cores.

The moment his fingers touched it, the surroundings suddenly began to change.

———————————————————

"Father! Father! Wake up!"

Lin Xuan forcibly opened his eyes to the frantic pushing and pulling of a six-year-old girl beside him. Her face was streaked with tears, and she continued shaking his arm as though afraid he would not wake up.

"Zhaoyue? Why are you crying?" he asked as he slowly sat up from the bed.

"I thought you died!" she cried before throwing herself against him. "Wahh! Father, you’re a bully!"

She began crying even harder, her small shoulders trembling as she clung to him.

Lin Xuan was momentarily stunned before crouching down and pulling her into his arms.

"Alright, alright. Father is here."

He gently patted her back, trying to calm her down.

The surroundings suddenly shifted again.

Lin Xuan was seated behind a desk, a scroll spread open before him as he held a brush in his hand.

Before he could figure out what was happy, a cheerful voice suddenly rang through the room.

"Father! Father! Let’s play!"

Lin Xuan looked up and saw a seven-year-old Lin Zhaoyue running toward him, her face filled with excitement.

A warm smile appeared on his face.

He put the scroll aside and rose from his seat before walking toward her.

"Alright, but I’m not going to be the horse this time."

"Huh?! You want me to be the horse?" Zhaoyue’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Father, you’re so mean!"

Lin Xuan laughed and reached out to pat her head.

"Why not? I thought you were the strongest."

Zhaoyue puffed out her cheeks, clearly dissatisfied with his answer.

The scene around them suddenly blurred as darkness swallowed everything.

Lin Xuan found himself lying amid the ruins of a destroyed building.

Blood stained his clothes, and a terrible pain radiated from his abdomen. His dantian had been completely destroyed, leaving behind nothing but shattered spiritual energy.

He could barely move.

The once-grand Lin Family Hall had been reduced to a broken ruin, with shattered pillars and collapsed walls scattered across the ground.

Through his blurred vision, Lin Xuan saw a small figure in the distance.

"Father!"

Lin Zhaoyue was crying hysterically as Lin Zhenghai carried her away from the ruins.

She struggled desperately in his arms, reaching toward Lin Xuan with both hands.

"Father! Father!"

Her voice echoed through the ruined hall.

Lin Xuan could only watch helplessly as Lin Zhenghai carried her farther and farther away.
