Chapter 184: 184. Friendly spar [2]
Soon, the last few children arrived at the training ground, with Hai Yue among them.
Qian Deyu’s eyes immediately settled upon the familiar young woman who had been sitting in front of the Lin Family’s gate earlier.
He stared at her for a moment before giving a thoughtful nod.
"So you really were one of the Whale People."
Although his voice was quiet, it was still loud enough for Wei Rong and Mo Jian to hear.
Both elders exchanged another uncomfortable glance.
Qian Deyu, however, seemed completely unconcerned. He rose from his stone seat and walked toward Hai Yue with a friendly smile.
"Young lady, welcome."
Hai Yue didn’t even glanced at him as she simply ran past him without saying a word.
Leaving the old man outstretched hand hanging awkwardly in the air.
The old man’s smile stiffened before slowly lowered his hand and turned toward Hai Yun.
Hai Yue had already reached her side.
"Elder Hai, what’s going on?" she asked excitedly, her eyes immediately falling upon Lin Xuan and Wei Rong standing in the center of the training ground. "Are they going to fight to the death?"
"Unfortunately, no." there was a faint trace of disappointment in her voice as she replied.
Meanwhile, Lin Xuan took a deep breath and slowly stepped forward.
Wei Rong stood opposite him, his expression becoming serious as the surrounding children settled down to watch.
Lin Xuan looked at the royal elder and gave him a polite smile.
"Elder Wei, please go easy on this junior."
Wei Rong’s expression immediately twitched.
Junior?
He was a Ninth-Layer Golden Core cultivator, while Lin Xuan was supposedly only an early Golden Core cultivator a few years back.
Logically there was nothing wrong with it but for reason unknown, he felt like it was a mockery instead.
He took a slow breath and suppressed the strange feeling.
"Patriarch Lin, don’t worry. I will naturally show you the proper courtesy."
Lin Xuan nodded.
"Then I will have to trouble Elder Wei."
The moment Lin Xuan’s words fell, Wei Rong’s expression became solemn.
He immediately raised his left hand and a vast surge of spiritual energy erupted from his body, causing the surrounding air to tremble.
The children who had been whispering among themselves immediately fell silent.
Wei Rong’s robes fluttered violently as golden spiritual energy gathered around him. The ground beneath his feet began to crack under the pressure, while a brilliant golden radiance spread across the training ground.
Wei Rong then stepped forward and his figure shot forward like a golden streak, and in his hand appeared a long golden spear covered in intricate patterns.
He raised the spear toward the sky.
The spiritual energy surrounding his body suddenly surged upward, forming the enormous phantom of a golden mountain behind him.
The mountain was several dozen meters tall, its peak disappearing into the clouds.
The sight immediately stunned the surrounding children.
"What a powerful technique!"
One of the younger children exclaimed.
Wei Rong’s expression remained calm as he pointed the spear toward Lin Xuan.
"Royal Mountain-Severing Spear!"
His voice thundered across the training ground.
The enormous mountain phantom behind him suddenly began to move.
It seemed as though an entire mountain had been lifted from the earth and condensed into the tip of his spear.
The surrounding air distorted violently as he thrust his spear forward.
BOOM!
A terrifying golden spear shadow tore through the air.
The mountain phantom behind him collapsed into the spear at the same time, causing the already enormous attack to become several times more powerful.
The ground between the two cultivators cracked apart.
Several children instinctively took a few steps backward.
Hai Yue’s eyes brightened.
"Now that’s more like it."
Hai Yun smiled faintly beside her.
Qian Deyu, however, remained seated upon his stone, his eyes fixed upon Lin Xuan.
He wanted to see how the young Patriarch would respond.
Lin Xuan on the other end, didn’t show any panic and calmly gathered spiritual energy around his body and then his figure suddenly disappeared.
Leaving the golden spear to struck an empty ground.
BOOM!
Dust and shattered stones erupted into the air.
Wei Rong’s pupils contracted.
He’s fast.
Before he could react, Lin Xuan had already appeared beside him with a spear in hand.
The spear swept toward Wei Rong’s side making him hurriedly turned his body and raised his own spear to block.
CLANG!
A deafening metallic sound rang across the training ground.
Wei Rong’s arm trembled violently.
His feet slid backward several meters, leaving two deep trails across the ground.
The surrounding children immediately erupted into whispers.
Lin Xuan, however, did not plan on giving him time to recover as he immediately began to move.
The Flowing Cloud Chasing Technique activated beneath his feet and his figure became as elusive as drifting clouds, appearing to move in several directions at once.
Wei Rong’s expression changed.
He spun around and thrust his spear toward the approaching figure.
But it pierced nothing, Lin Xuan had already disappeared and another figure appeared behind him.
Wei Rong immediately turned to strike but that still did nothing.
A faint breeze brushed past his cheek.
Lin Xuan’s voice quietly sounded beside him.
"Elder Wei, your technique is quite impressive."
Wei Rong’s expression became stiff.
Then Lin Xuan’s spear descended.
Wei Rong immediately raised his own spear to meet it.
CLANG!
The collision sent a powerful shockwave through the training ground.
Both figures separated.
Lin Xuan landed lightly several steps away, his spear still held loosely in one hand. He glanced at the weapon in Wei Rong’s hand and smiled.
"I have to admit, Elder Wei. Seeing another cultivator use a spear is rather admirable."
In the cultivation world, swords were generally far more common than other weapons.
Their balanced shape, versatility, and relatively simple handling made them suitable for countless martial techniques, while sword arts were also easier to adapt to different cultivation paths.
As a result, generations of powerful cultivators had developed countless sword techniques, creating an enormous legacy around the weapon.
Spears, sabers, blades, and other weapons certainly had their own experts, but swords remained the most widespread choice among cultivators.
Wei Rong tightened his grip around his spear.
The brief exchange had confirmed something important.
Lin Xuan was not simply relying on speed.
His movements, timing, and control over his spear were all remarkably refined.
Wei Rong’s eyes became increasingly curious.
Just what cultivation realm is he actually in?
