The life of robin flint

Chapter 79: The Ruler of My Destiny

  • Next Chapter

The morning sun broke through the damp fog over Harrenhal, casting a cold, pale light across the Gods Eye. Inside the cavernous Great Pavilion, where the morning feast was underway, the air was so heavy you could cut it with a broadsword.

Thirty thousand lords, ladies, and knights sat at long timber tables, their voices hushed, their eyes darting nervously toward the high dais. The terrifying echo of Robin’s song from the previous night—the raw, burning declaration of isolation—still hung over the gathering like an unexploded thunderstorm.

At the head of the grand arrangement sat Robin Flint on his eighteenth name day.

To his right sat King Robert Baratheon, Queen Cersei, and the royal children. To his left sat eleven-year-old Lyra Flint, Lord Eddard Stark, Lady Catelyn, and the Stark children.

Robin wore his plain dark grey tunic, his posture composed and motionless. Beside him, King Robert drummed his massive fingers on the oak table, looking unusually subdued, while Ned Stark watched his nephew with quiet, watchful concern. Across the wide central aisle, in the Dornish delegation, Princess Arianne Martell sat with her chin held high. Beneath her embroidered silk sleeves, her skin still tingled with the memory of the midnight poem, and her dark eyes were fixed on Robin with an fierce, radiant light.

King Robert cleared his throat, the sound booming across the quiet hall. He turned to Robin, striking the table with a heavy silver goblet to break the suffocating silence.

"Well, nephew," Robert boomed, his storm-blue eyes filled with a mixture of rough affection and lingering regret. "The realm has gathered. The sun is up. Rise and make your name day speech."

The Unfettered Wolf

Every breath in the Great Pavilion caught. High lords leaned forward, squires froze in their tracks, and spymasters strained their ears.

Robin stood up slowly.

He did not look like a boy burdened by courtly weight anymore. The exhaustion that had clouded his clear grey eyes the night before was gone, replaced by a cold, absolute, unshakeable clarity that radiated from his very soul.

He turned first toward King Robert.

"Thank you, Uncle Robert," Robin spoke, his melodic voice carrying with effortless, crystalline projection that echoed off the high stone arches. "I thank you today not as the King who sits upon the Iron Throne, but as an uncle who gave me his trust, his boisterous laughter, and a place by his hearth when I was just a boy."

King Robert blinked, a genuine, touched smile breaking through his dark beard as he offered a firm, heavy nod.

Robin then turned to his left, looking directly into the dark eyes of Eddard Stark.

"And I thank you, Lord Ned," Robin continued, his tone softening with profound, eternal reverence. "Not as the Warden of the North, but as my adoptive father. When my blood was young and winter threatened to consume my home, you stood behind me. You guided me with honor, shielded me from greedy hawks, and gave me the wisdom of the First Men."

Ned Stark’s jaw tightened as he swallowed hard, his dark eyes shining with immense, paternal pride as he inclined his head.

The Declaration of War

Then, Robin turned his gaze forward, looking out over the sea of fifty high houses, Wardens, and grand knights.

The atmosphere in his voice shifted instantly.

The quiet, gentle tone vanished, replaced by a resonance so fierce, so proud, and so devastatingly powerful that it felt like a direct declaration of war against the gods themselves.

"I, Robin Flint, Lord of Flint’s Finger, declare here before the lords of the realm, the Wardens of the land, and the only King Robert Baratheon!" Robin thundered, his clear grey eyes burning with an unyielding, indestructible flame.

The high lords gasped, some half-rising from their seats in sheer shock at the sheer authority ringing in his voice.

"The chains of policy and court will NOT bind me!" Robin proclaimed, his words striking the stone hall like iron hammers on an anvil. "I am the ruler of my destiny, and the captain of my soul!"

He raised his hand, pointing directly toward the sky, his posture towering over the grand hall.

"And in front of the eyes of the realm, the Old Gods, and the New... I am in love with Arianne Martell, who I WILL marry!"

A collective, deafening gasp erupted from thirty thousand throats! Lord Mace Tyrell nearly choked on his wine, Lord Crakehall’s jaw dropped, and Tywin Lannister’s sharp golden eyes widened in absolute, profound disbelief.

Robin stepped to the very edge of the elevated high dais, his voice rising to a terrifying, triumphant roar that shook the dust from the rafters:

"And I challenge those who oppose my will—be it by arms, by riches, or by culture—I WILL SMASH THEE UNDER MY MIGHT! For no one in this world will avoid me seeking the caress of my southern sun!"

The Storm at the Dais

Robin did not wait for a response. He did not ask for royal permission, nor did he offer a courtly bow.

Before anyone could draw another breath, Robin vaulted straight over the heavy oak high table!

His boots slammed onto the stone floor of the Great Pavilion with a deafening CRACK.

He walked like an oncoming storm—fierce, proud, unstoppable, and radiant—his dark cloak billowing behind him as he carved a path directly down the central aisle toward the Dornish delegation.

Lords scrambled backward, tripping over their benches to clear his path. Knights froze, paralyzed by the sheer, terrifying momentum of the Northern wolf.

Arianne Martell stood at the front of her table, her heart pounding violently against her ribs, her breath hitching in her throat, her dark eyes brimming with glorious, joyful tears.

Robin reached her in five strides.

Without a single word, he reached out, wrapped his strong arms securely around her waist, and pulled the Heir of Dorne directly into his chest. He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers in a deep, breathtaking, passionate kiss right in front of God, the King, and the entire realm!

The Eruption

For one glorious, frozen second, the universe stood still.

Then, King Robert Baratheon threw his head back and let out a thunderous, sky-shaking roar of laughter that echoed all the way to the Gods Eye lake!

"HA! HAHAHAHA!" Robert roared, slamming both fists onto the high table so hard the roast pheasants bounced! "BY THE SEVEN! THAT IS A NORTHERN MAN! DROWN THE TREATIES! DROWN THE MARRYING-TOURNAMENT! DRINK TO THE SUN AND THE WOLF!"

Across the dais, eleven-year-old Lyra Flint stood on top of her chair, waving her arms wildly and cheering at the top of her lungs, while Ned Stark leaned back in his seat, shaking his head with a rare, beaming, profoundly relieved smile.

Prince Oberyn Martell raised his golden goblet high, laughing with wild Dornish pride, while Arianne wrapped her arms tightly around Robin’s neck, kissing him back with all the fierce, undying passion of her soul.

The Golden Builder had broken the chains of the realm. And as he held his southern sun in his arms beneath the soaring arches of Harrenhal, the Seven Kingdoms knew that no force on earth would ever stop him again.
