THE LAST KEEPER

Chapter 470: CORONATION OF THE GRAND ZORATH

The Great Iron Citadel of Asaka sat perched high upon the jagged granite cliffs of the northern peaks, surrounded by swirling snow and roaring mountain pines. Inside the Great Hall of the Bear, massive stone hearths burned with crackling birch logs, casting dancing orange firelight across carved ironwood pillars and hanging wolf pelts.

Hundreds of battle-hardened northern clan chiefs, fortress jarls, and academy weapon masters packed the tiered stone benches of the hall. The air was thick with the scent of roasted mutton, spiced pine ale, and the sharp metallic tang of thousands of polished steel broadswords.

Upon the elevated stone dais sat Grand Zorath Zaka Asakana, resting within the heavy carved Iron Throne. The elder chief was wrapped in a thick mammoth-fur cloak, leaning heavily upon a carved ironwood walking cane with deep, silver battle scars marking his weathered face and chest.

According to the official war records issued under Marshal Salka’s direct authority, Chief Zaka had sustained severe internal wounds while heroically holding the frontline against Lanka’s frost beasts. Per Sagiri’s personal wish, the private duel at Galka was kept completely secret to protect the honor of the northern dynasty, allowing Zaka to step down with undisputed dignity as a wounded hero.

Chief Zaka raised his hand, and the roaring hall immediately fell into absolute, reverent silence. The old warrior looked down across the gathering, his raspy, battle-worn voice carrying through the stone arches with pride.

“The wounds I took in the war have weakened my mortal vigor,” Zaka announced, tapping his cane against the granite floor. “The North requires a leader whose arms are swift, whose iron is unyielding, and whose courage has been proven in the crucible of fire.”

The heavy ironwood doors at the end of the hall swung wide open with a booming resonance, and all eyes turned toward the entrance. A heavy, rhythmic crunch of iron-shod boots echoed across the stone floor as young Kaka Asakana strode into the hall with unmatched swagger and confidence.

Kaka walked with a wide, powerful stride, rolling his broad shoulders beneath a magnificent mantle of pure white polar bear fur. Dressed in polished black iron armor inlaid with gold-leaf roaring bears, the young warrior radiated the ferocious energy of a beast at the peak of its strength.

He had not inherited this day through birthright alone; he had earned it with blood, terrifying agility, and relentless martial fury. During the meatgrinder battles of the Central Plains and the assault on Glacial Lanka, Kaka had ducked beneath heavy frost ballista bolts with lightning reflexes, personally cleaving through hundreds of Soulless shock troops with terrifying savagery.

Sitting in the place of supreme honor right beside the imperial dais was Supreme Chief Sagiri, dressed in his dark midnight tunic with silver-stitched runes and the master blade of Nokai resting on his back. Beside Sagiri sat Healer Lira, Lady Kiana in shimmering Sekana silks, and the rest of Squad 25 in crisp dress armor.

The northern chieftains—notorious for their stubborn pride, old feuds, and rebellious tempers—looked at Kaka and then glanced nervously toward Sagiri’s dual-colored amber and silver eyes. Jarl Bami and Jarl Zonuvaki exchanged quiet, tense glances, whispering among themselves before quickly lowering their heads in respect.

Knowing that the legendary Last Keeper of N’folu was Kaka’s sworn blood brother and would obliterate any rebellion in a heartbeat, not a single clan lord dared to whisper a word of dissent. The presence of Sagiri’s calm authority cast an absolute, unshakeable shield over Kaka’s succession.

Kaka marched up the center aisle, nodding casually to his companions in Squad 25 with his signature cocky grin. Bukata slammed a heavy gauntlet over his armored chest from the front row, while Kiuga, Maita, Zolinka, and Ulekai grinned back with fierce pride.

Kaka reached the foot of the dais and dropped smoothly onto one knee, his white bear fur pooling across the dark granite floor. Grand Zorath Zaka stood slowly from his throne, leaning on Marshal Salka’s arm as he reached into a velvet-lined silver chest held by an elder priest.

Zaka lifted the ancient Iron Bear Crown, forged from meteorite steel and carved with the snarling likeness of the northern mountain bear. The old chief placed the heavy crown firmly upon Kaka’s head, resting both hands on his son’s broad shoulders with tears of pride glistening in his eyes.

“Arise, Kaka of Asakana,” Zaka proclaimed, his voice trembling with deep emotion. “Arise as the Grand Zorath of the Northern Clans and High Protector of the Asaka mountains!”

Kaka rose to his feet with fluid grace, turning to face the immense hall with supreme swagger. He drew his massive twin roaring bear war axes from his back, spinning them in a dazzling blur of silver steel before slamming their heavy flat heads together with an earth-shattering clang.

Kaka threw his head back and unleashed a deafening northern battle roar that shook dust from the high ceiling beams. The sheer ferocious power in his lungs rattled the iron shields along the walls, silencing every lingering doubt in the minds of the old jarls.

“Hear me, sons and daughters of Asaka!” Kaka shouted, his booming voice filling every corner of the citadel. “We will build warmer hearths, forge stronger plows, and train the fiercest cadets on the continent! The iron of the North shall stand as the unbreakable shield of Tasaka!”

A second later, the entire hall erupted into pandemonium. Hundreds of northern chieftains leaped to their feet, unsheathing their broadswords and slamming them against their wooden shields in a rhythmic, deafening thunder.

“HAIL KAKA! HAIL THE GRAND ZORATH!” the northern warriors roared in unison, their voices echoing off the snowy crags outside the citadel. “HAIL THE IRON OF THE NORTH!”

Sagiri stood from his seat, placing his right hand over his heart in a formal southern salute of honor. Kaka locked eyes with his Supreme Chief across the dais, flashing a broad, toothy grin and raising his right war axe in return.

Lady Kiana stepped forward, presenting Kaka with a ceremonial sash woven from silver Sekana silk, symbolizing the eternal friendship between North and South. Kaka draped the silver sash across his black iron breastplate, standing tall as the undisputed sovereign of the northern lands.

Jarl Bami and Jarl Zonuvaki walked up to the dais, holding two massive polished drinking horns brimming with spiced honey mead. The two proud jarls knelt with deep respect, presenting the horns to Kaka and Sagiri in a pledge of unbroken fealty.

Kaka stepped down from the dais and threw his heavy arms around Sagiri and Bukata, laughing so loudly that his crown tilted sideways. “Now that I am officially Grand Zorath, Sagiri, I command you and the squad to drink every drop of ale in this fortress!”

“A wise first decree from our new king,” Sagiri laughed, tapping his wooden cup against Kaka’s iron gauntlet. Lira, Lady Kiana, and the rest of the squad cheered in agreement, raising their drinking horns high into the air.

Marshal Salka stood beside elder Chief Zaka, watching the young warriors celebrate with quiet, profound satisfaction. The old chief leaned on his cane, resting his hand on Salka’s shoulder as tears of peaceful relief rolled down his battle-scarred cheeks.

Servants flooded the great hall carrying roasted boar, steaming platters of spiced trout, and massive wooden casks of northern dark ale. Outside in the snow-covered courtyards, thousands of northern soldiers celebrated around giant bonfires, their songs ringing across the frosty mountain night.
