THE LAST KEEPER

Chapter 454: INTO THE INNER VAULT

As the silver bridge stabilized between Nokai and the radiant core, the surrounding defense constructs stopped their assault. One by one, the mechanical soldiers and armored phantoms dissolved into harmless clouds of sparkling stardust.

The roaring storm inside the sanctum died down completely, replaced by a deep, peaceful silence that echoed across the glass floor. Kaka lowered his heavy battleaxes, letting out a long breath as he wiped sweat from his scarred forehead.

“Looks like the front door is finally open,” Kaka said with a broad grin, walking over to join the circle. “Good work on that silver bridge, Lady Kiana.”

Kiuga, Maita, Zolinka, and Ulekai stepped in from the perimeter, gathering closely around Sagiri and Lira. The shared warmth of their spiritual presence created a bright, protective aura that illuminated the dark corners of the hall.

“The outer defense layer has stood down,” Kiuga observed, checking the glowing runes on his map scroll. “The Living Memory has accepted Sagiri’s authority as the rightful Supreme Chief.”

Suddenly, the glass platform beneath their boots gave a low, resonant hum and began to descend smoothly through the void. The walls of the sanctum peeled away, opening up into a colossal subterranean labyrinth of ancient stone corridors.

Towering pillars of dark granite rose on either side of the descending platform, each pillar carved with the sacred crests of the Five Founding Tribes. Vast shelves of glowing memory crystals stretched into the distance, reflecting the lost history of the continent.

“This is the Inner Vault,” Lady Kiana explained, her dust-rose eyes scanning the magnificent architecture. “This is where the earliest memories of ancient Tasaka are preserved, dating back to before the first tribal split.”

“The layout matches the primordial maps of the southern desert,” Kiuga said, his sharp eyes noting the geometric alignment of the pillars. “Before our ancestors divided into separate tribes, they built this archive together as a shared foundation.”

Sagiri looked at the glowing shelves of crystal, feeling the peaceful hum of thousands of ancient scholars and builders resting within the stone. For the first time, the Archive did not feel like a heavy burden of war; it felt like a home waiting to be rediscovered.

Lira kept her gentle hand rested against his lower back, continuing to channel a steady stream of green cellular energy into his spirit. “Your mortal chest is completely free of stone now, Sagiri. The lifeforce is circulating naturally again.”

“Thank you, Lira,” Sagiri said softly, placing his hand over hers with quiet gratitude. “I couldn’t have crossed that threshold without your warmth.”

Through their spiritual connection, Sagiri could also feel the strong, steady presence of Bukata, Marshal Salka, and General Zafaru guarding their sleeping physical shells on the surface. That unbreakable bond acted as an anchor of iron, keeping their souls steady within the deep void.

The descending platform came to a gentle halt at the bottom of the vault, resting before a massive circular gate of black iron and silver stone. The gate was bound by three thick chains of dark, corrupted void energy that pulsed with angry purple light.

Standing before the gate was a colossal crystalline guardian twice the height of an academy war wagon. Its body was forged from jagged obsidian plates, and its four heavy arms held long, barbed chains that dragged against the floor.

“That is the Shadow of the First Split,” Kiana warned, her silver void needles rising into defensive formation around her shoulders. “It is the accumulated trauma born when my clan was exiled and the N’folu chose secrecy over unity.”

“So it’s the old grudge that started this whole mess,” Kaka growled, rolling his shoulders as he raised his twin battleaxes. “Let’s break it into gravel and finish the job.”

“Listen to the tactical sequence,” Kiuga commanded, stepping to the front with his commander’s scroll. “The guardian has three resonance nodes on its chest and shoulders. We must strike all three nodes at the exact same moment to shatter the chains.”

“I’ll take the left shoulder node,” Maita said, drawing his twin azure-glowing daggers with quiet, deadly focus.

“I’ll target the right shoulder node with concussive alchemical darts,” Zolinka added, loading his heavy dart launcher with three green vials.

“Kaka and I will draw its main chain strikes down the center,” Kiuga ordered. “Ulekai, maintain the energy barrier! Sagiri, you strike the central chest node with Nokai!”

“Understood,” Sagiri replied, tightening his grip on the silver-veined hilt of his sword. “Squad 25, advance!”

The colossal guardian roared with a hollow, metallic screech, swinging its four heavy chains in sweeping arcs that tore through the air. The barbed iron links whistled with terrifying speed, smashing against the stone floor and sending jagged shards of rock flying.

Kaka charged directly into the center of the storm, roaring with fierce northern fury as he crossed his heavy battleaxes in a high iron block. The lead chain slammed into his weapons with a deafening crash, showering sparks across the dark floor.

Kaka gritted his teeth, his boots sliding back three inches as he absorbed the immense kinetic force. “Is that all you’ve got, you overgrown rock?! I’ve taken harder hits from academy training dummies!”

Taking advantage of the opening, Maita dashed up the guardian’s left flank, leaping off a shattered stone pillar with feline grace. He spun in mid-air, driving both of his daggers straight into the glowing left shoulder node with pinpoint precision.

At the exact same instant, Zolinka fired a volley of three explosive darts into the right shoulder node. The alchemical vials detonated in a violent flash of emerald fire, cracking the thick obsidian armor wide open.

Young Ulekai drove his staff into the floor, projecting a bright golden barrier that deflected the guardian’s secondary sweeping chains. “The flanks are exposed! Sagiri, take the center!”

“The flanks are severed!” Kiuga shouted, stepping forward to deflect a secondary chain strike with his tactical iron buckler. “Sagiri, strike now!”

Sagiri surged forward, his boots gliding across the stone using the fluid footwork of the Sandshades. He vaulted over the guardian’s sweeping lower arms, channeling the power of all Five Relics directly into Nokai’s radiant blade.

With a single, decisive thrust, Sagiri drove the glowing tip of Nokai straight into the central chest node. A blinding shockwave of silver and golden light exploded through the guardian’s frame, shattering the dark obsidian armor into millions of sparkling fragments.

The three heavy chains binding the gate snapped with loud, metallic cracks, dissolving into harmless gray smoke. The massive circular doors of the Inner Vault slowly swung inward, revealing the radiant sanctum of personal lineage that lay beyond.

“The final seal is broken,” Lady Kiana said, stepping up beside Sagiri with a proud smile. “The true heart of your family’s memory is waiting for you inside.”

Sagiri looked at his brothers and sisters standing victorious beside him, his heart filled with an overwhelming sense of peace. Together, they walked through the open gate, stepping into the final, sacred chapter of the Archive.
