THE LAST KEEPER

Chapter 436: THE FALL OF GRACIAL LANKA

  • Next Chapter

The fifteen-foot Alpha Bio-Weapon tore through the boiling black mist, its four massive arms smashing the heavy iron catwalks into twisted scrap with deafening metallic shrieks.

Sir Black’s mutated face stretched grotesquely across the beast’s armored chest, laughing with a wet, bubbling gurgle as four glowing crimson eyes locked onto Sagiri.

"Behold the pinnacle of evolution!" the merged abomination roared, its unholy voice vibrating through the solid bedrock of the mountain. "You cannot kill what has conquered death!"

The abomination opened its gaping maw, unleashing a roaring torrent of corrosive violet flame straight toward the retreating warriors on the lower gantry.

"Art of the Beast: Roaring Wall!" Supreme Mandra Taziraka bellowed, stepping directly into the path of the devastating blast.

The Mandra’s crimson-and-black tiger avatar exploded outward, his dual palm strikes unleashing a concussive shockwave that split the alchemical fire clean in two.

"Get King Vanka to the lift!" Taziraka roared over his shoulder to Kaka and Kiuga. "My clan will hold the ceiling! Slay this abomination, Keeper!"

"Don’t die down here, Sagiri!" Kaka yelled through the falling rubble, hauling the unconscious King Vanka over his broad shoulders as Kiuga led the retreat. "We have a victory feast waiting on the coast!"

Above them, Lady Kiana vaulted across falling debris with breathtaking feline grace, her silver void needles slicing through falling power cables to keep the extraction path clear.

"The structural supports are buckling, Sagiri!" Kiana called down from the upper gantry, her dust-rose eyes sharp with urgency. "You have two minutes before the entire mountain caves in!"

Sagiri nodded calmly, stepping alone into the center of the flooded sanctum as his boots splashed through the black alchemical sludge.

Around his body, the ancient markings beneath his skin ignited with five distinct, blinding colors—the five primordial relics fused permanently into his blood.

’Mortal flesh was never meant to hold five gods,’ Sagiri thought, feeling the agonizing, molten burn tearing through his heart, lungs, and marrow. ’Let it burn.’

The Alpha Bio-Weapon lunged forward with earth-shattering speed, its four bone claws slashing down in a cross-pattern to tear Sagiri to shreds.

Sagiri did not dodge.

He slammed his right boot into the flooded floor, invoking the Living Stone Hammer.

A colossal shockwave rippled through the bedrock, thrusting dozens of jagged stone pillars out of the ground that caught the beast’s knees and shattered its balance.

The stone spikes impaled the monster’s legs, pinning it to the chamber floor as black blood gushed from its ruptured joints.

Before the monster could tear free, Sagiri inhaled deeply, channeling the Beast Skull Horn through his chest and throat.

He unleashed an ear-splitting primal sonic roar that blasted through the chamber, shattering the Alpha’s necrotic energy barrier into glittering fragments.

The acoustic force rattled the entire cavern, disorienting the beast’s senses as its mutated eyes leaked dark fluid.

The monster shrieked in fury, its four arms whipping forward with terrifying strength to crush Sagiri’s skull.

Sagiri raised his left hand, summoning the Golden Spear.

A violent vortex of golden crystal sand erupted from beneath the sludge, wrapping around the beast’s four massive limbs like glowing steel chains.

The sand scorched the creature’s mutated flesh, burning hot with the sacred heat of the southern desert sun.

The Alpha strained against the sand chains with terrifying fury, its muscles tearing as it lunged its gaping jaws straight at Sagiri’s throat.

Sagiri activated the Silver Mask.

His physical form dissolved into empty void space, the beast’s jaws snapping through harmless air as Sagiri phased effortlessly behind the monster’s shoulders.

Reappearing on the monster’s armored nape, Sagiri pressed his glowing right palm against the pulsating, necrotic tissue at the base of the beast’s neck.

In that instant, as his skin touched the corrupted core, Sagiri felt a faint, trembling frequency buried beneath the layers of madness and bio-alchemy.

Deep within this grotesque, murderous titan, there was a darker, tender presence—a wounded, fragile soul trapped in an eternal scream.

Just as he had once done with the Tamelku twins in the academy, the Living Memory of the Archive unlocked, pulling Sagiri’s consciousness across the veil of time and plunging his mind straight into Sir Black’s deepest, darkest memory.

The sulfur and ozone of the reactor chamber vanished, replaced by the freezing, pitch-black darkness of a decrepit wooden cabin in the northern snow.

Sagiri saw a small, frail six-year-old boy cowering in the corner, clutching a wooden carving of a songbird.

The boy’s real name was Taola.

In the center of the blood-splattered floor lay the lifeless, butchered body of Taola’s mother—slain in a drunken, sadistic rage by his own father.

The towering, cruel father kicked the boy to the floor, shoving crude bone needles and thick gut thread into Taola’s trembling, bloody little hands.

"Sew her!" the father roared, striking the child across the face with an iron buckle. "She stopped breathing because you let the cold in! Sew her back together or I’ll cut you open next!"

Weeping hysterically, his tiny fingers shredded and bleeding from the coarse thread, little Taola knelt beside his mother’s cold corpse, pushing the bone needle through her pale, torn skin over and over again, begging her to open her eyes.

When the dead mother remained lifeless and stiff, the father flew into another deranged fury. He ripped the stitches apart with his bare hands, dragged the carcass of a freshly slaughtered winter wolf into the room, and forced the sobbing child to sew animal muscles, beast organs, and wolf sinew into his mother’s hollowed chest.

"Make her whole! Stitch the beast into her! Why won’t she move?!"

Night after night, month after month, the boy was locked in that freezing room of rot and horror, forced to sew, tear apart, sew again, and stitch beast remains into human flesh until his child’s mind snapped completely. The tears had dried into mad, hysterical laughter; the broken boy died in that dark cabin, and Sir Black was born—a man forever cursed with the delusion that if he could only stitch enough beast flesh, alchemical venom, and stolen souls together, he could finally conquer death.

The vision shattered.

Sagiri stood back on the creature’s shoulder in the collapsing subterranean forge.

Down on the abomination’s chest, Sir Black’s mutated face was snarling, his yellowed eyes wild with manic hatred. But as Sir Black looked up and met Sagiri’s dual-colored eyes, his sneer faltered.

Sagiri wasn’t looking at him with hatred. He wasn’t even looking at him with anger.

Sagiri was looking at him with profound, boundless pity—the solemn, sorrowful gaze of a Keeper who had seen the unbearable cruelty of the world, looking past the monster to see the weeping, bloody child still sewing in the dark.

"Rest now, Taola," Sagiri said softly, his voice cutting through the roar of the collapsing forge with gentle, heartbreaking warmth. "No one will ever make you sew her again."

Sir Black’s mutated face froze.

The madness in his yellowed eyes flickered, trembling as the long-forgotten name of his childhood echoed in his ears. For the first time in fifty years, the frantic sneer vanished from his lips, replaced by the stunned, vulnerable expression of a lost little boy. A single, dark tear traced a path down his scarred, scaly cheek.

"Ah..." Sir Black whispered, a faint, fragile breath escaping his chest. "...mother."

Sagiri gripped Nokai with both hands, leaping high into the air above the pinned beast.

Along his spine, every dark rune on his body pulsed with searing, blinding energy as the five relics harmonized into a singular, devastating frequency of pure mercy and liberation.

"Nokai, Sovereign Cleave!" Sagiri roared, his voice echoing with the ancient authority of every Keeper who had ever lived.

The twenty Silver-Veined Void Blades merged seamlessly with Nokai’s master hilt, expanding the blade into a thirty-foot arc of radiant silver-and-black cosmic light.

With a downward vertical strike that parted the very air in the cavern, Sagiri brought the radiant blade down through the center of the Alpha’s skull.

The silver void light carved effortlessly through the beast’s armored carapace, cleanly splitting the Alpha Bio-Weapon and Sir Black’s peaceful, weeping face in two.

BOOM!

A blinding explosion of pure silver void energy detonated within the monster’s core, completely disintegrating the abomination and Sir Black into a gentle shower of harmless white ash, releasing his tormented soul forever.

The central reactor core beneath the beast cracked wide open, its volatile alchemical fuel igniting in a chain reaction of deafening explosions.

"The mountain is coming down!" Kiuga shouted from the lift doors. "Sagiri, move!"

Sagiri vaulted across the collapsing catwalks, landing on the freight lift just as Mandra Taziraka and the Tagan warriors hauled the heavy iron gates shut.

The lift shot upward toward the surface as millions of tons of black granite and glacial ice collapsed into the abyss, burying Project Lava IX forever.

Minutes later, the lift smashed through the upper debris, carrying the strike team out onto the snow-covered cliffs overlooking the northern sea.

The howling blizzard had finally passed, replaced by a radiant golden sunrise breaking over the Frozen Sea.

Across the water, colossal titan serpent Zaira crested the lead waves, letting out a thunderous roar of victory that shook the icy coastline.

Down on the harbor beachhead, one hundred thousand allied warriors stood in perfect, triumphant ranks under the morning sun.

Thousands of liberated prisoners wept openly in the snow, their broken slave chains cast into the ocean as Cilsi healers tended to their wounds.

General Zafaru and Grand Zorath Zaka stepped to the front of the army as Kaka tossed the bound King Vanka onto his knees in the frost before them.

A deafening, earth-shaking cheer erupted from one hundred thousand throats, rolling across the northern mountains like unstoppable thunder.

"The fortress has fallen!" the soldiers roared, banging their weapons against their shields in rhythmic triumph.

"Hail the Grand Alliance! Hail the Last Keeper!"

Grand Marshal Senraki stood at the cliff edge, his white robes catching the morning light as he looked out over the liberated sea with peaceful, unburdened eyes.

Mandra Taziraka smiled fiercely, crossing his massive arms over his chest as the Tagan Clan warriors cheered proudly beside the northern tribes.

Sagiri walked away from the cheering crowd, stepping behind a quiet stone outcrop away from the soldiers’ sight.

Suddenly, a sharp, suffocating spasm tore through his chest, forcing him to drop heavily onto one knee in the deep snow.

Sagiri clutched his ribs, coughing violently as a thick pool of pitch-black obsidian blood stained the pure white frost beneath him.

He looked down at the dark blood on his trembling fingers, feeling the heavy, undeniable truth settle deep into his spirit.

The price of absorbing five primordial relics had been paid; the candle of his mortal lifespan had burned down to only a handful of years.

Yet, as he looked up and saw Kaka, Kiuga, Lira, and Kiana waving to him from the sunlit beach, Sagiri wiped the blood from his lips and smiled.

The sixteen-year nightmare was broken; the continent was finally free.
