THE LAST KEEPER
Chapter 399: BREAK THE ARRAY
The sight of Lira lying broken and bleeding against the shattered granite pillar ignited an ancient fury within Sagiri. Her limp form rested in dark blood, her shallow gasps growing fainter with every passing breath.
A roar of grief and rage tore from Sagiri’s throat, vibrating through the solid bedrock of the amphitheater. Ink-black runes flared across his face, burning with the untamed heat of the Archive.
Sagiri channeled the Archive’s power into Nokai’s spine. He raised the dark blade above his head, where twenty floating black blades merged back into a single colossal spear.
"Break!" Sagiri bellowed, driving the dark point down into the master convergence sigil of the floor array.
The floor array shattered into jagged stone fragments, obliterating the six receptor conduits in a burst of black fire. The shockwave ripped across the floor, tearing up heavy shale and hurling iron machinery into the air.
Clouds of dark smoke and pulverized stone filled the amphitheater as secondary energy collectors detonated in cascading fireballs. The crimson magnetic field dissolved, releasing the suffocating gravitational pressure.
High on the observation dais, Sir Black stumbled backward in terror, shielding his silver mask with his dark cloak. The concussive wave cracked the brass railings, nearly throwing him over the edge.
"Release the soulless!" Sir Black shrieked, slamming his iron staff onto the master emergency console. "Deploy every Soulless battalion from the lower vaults and butcher these southern dogs!"
Mechanical sirens wailed across the complex, echoing through the rocky flues of the Bleeding Gorge. Heavy iron bulkheads ground open along the lower corridors, releasing the marching rhythm of armored boots.
Kiuga, Kaka, Maita, and Zolinka sprinted toward the shattered pillar, dropping into a locked defensive ring around Lira and Rika. Their boots splashed through flooded water as they raised weapons against the gloom.
Kaka planted his massive frame over Lira, using his broad shoulders and iron armor to shield her from falling debris. His jaw set in granite resolve, he scanned the shadowy arches for threats.
Kiuga knelt beside Lira on the cold stone, pressing trembling hands against her crushed ribs.
"Sagiri!" Kiuga yelled across the smoke, his voice cracking with panic. "She is bleeding internally, and her pulse is fading fast!"
"Her ribs have fractured into her chest cavity," Kiuga continued, his fingers stained with blood. "If we do not get her warmth immediately, she will not survive to see the sunrise!"
Maita ripped a strip of cloth from his tunic, pressing it against Lira’s mouth to clear the bubbling blood. "Stay with us, Lira," Maita muttered under his breath, hands shaking with fear.
Zolinka readied his bronze throwing darts and explosive vials, taking up a firing position on the stone steps. "They are coming from three separate blast gates," Zolinka warned, his voice sharp despite the chaos.
Sagiri did not turn his head, his dual crimson eyes locked entirely upon the high observation platform. His senses were fixed on the emotionless girl who stood watching him from the edge of the shattered railing.
Kiana stepped off the platform without hesitation, dropping forty paces through the air like a falling feather. She landed upon the pulverized shale without generating an acoustic vibration or disturbing a single grain of dust.
She possessed the ancient Void Art of the Empty Shell, a forbidden discipline of the Sekana Clan that erased her presence. There was no heartbeat to track, no heat radiating from her skin, and no emotional intent rippling through her aura.
To the sensory perception of the Archive, Kiana did not exist as a living mortal being; she moved through the physical realm like a hollow phantom. Her mind had been completely hollowed out by Sir Black, leaving only a cold mechanical weapon.
Her dust-rose eyes remained vacant and unblinking, staring past Sagiri as she reached toward the leather bracers on her forearms. With a subtle flick of her wrists, two eight-inch silver void needles slid into her pale hands.
The needles gleamed with a chilling moonlight hue, forged from anti-Keeper silver designed to sever internal nerve connections on contact. She held them in a reverse grip, lowering her center of gravity into a classic predator stance.
In the next instant, Kiana vanished from sight, crossing thirty paces of broken floor with terrifying, automated speed. The air where she had stood collapsed inward with a soft pop, leaving only a fading afterimage.
Sagiri unleashed twenty floating black blades of Nokai, weaving a dense, spinning sphere of lethal dark steel around his body. The flying blades sliced through the smoky air in concentric orbits, rotating with blinding speed to deflect any assault.
Kiana did not slow her advance, executing intricate void-phasing steps that bent local space around her body.
She slipped effortlessly through the micro-gaps between the whirling blades, bypassing his outer perimeter without touching a single edge.
She appeared directly inside his guard, thrusting her right silver needle toward the vital nerve cluster beneath his collarbone.
The speed of her strike was unnatural, arriving before the sound of her movement could register.
A true Sekana indeed. Sagiri had seen them in the archive memory. Long, long before their clan disappeared.
Sagiri twisted his torso with reflexive precision, bringing the central hilt of Nokai upward to intercept the incoming silver point. Sparks cascaded between the weapons with an ear-splitting screech, deflecting the deadly thrust away from his throat by mere millimeters.
Before Sagiri could reset his balance, Kiana’s left hand struck with seamless, inhuman fluidity.
The second silver needle bypassed his defensive parry entirely, puncturing the primary nerve nexus in his right shoulder with terrifying accuracy.
A wave of freezing necrotic numbness surged through Sagiri’s shoulder, instantly severing the flow of internal energy to his right arm.
His fingers went numb against the grip of Nokai, the muscles in his arm locking into painful paralysis.
Black blood hissed as it dripped from the puncture wound, boiling against the cold silver surface of the anti-Keeper needle.
The dark venom spread along his nerve pathways, attempting to freeze the ancient pulse of the Archive.
Sagiri grunted in pain, pivoting on his left heel to drive a heavy elbow strike directly toward her temple to force distance. He channeled a burst of raw kinetic force through his left side, aiming to break her posture.
Kiana ducked beneath the blow with mechanical perfection, her body bending backward like a willow reed in a gale.
In the same continuous motion, she swept her right leg across the shale, attempting to take out his balance.
Sagiri vaulted backward into the air, landing lightly upon the jagged rim of a shattered receptor pillar ten paces away.
Crimson blood coated his torn right sleeve, dripping steadily onto the cold stone as he caught his breath.
Kiana did not give him a heartbeat to recover, leaping from the floor to the elevated pillar with predatory grace.
She closed the distance in mid-air, her dust-rose eyes tracking the weakened energy flow in his right arm.
She unleashed a relentless storm of rapid needle thrusts, targeting the primary vital points and nerve nexuses of the N’folu.
Each silver needle whistled through the air like a venomous wasp, seeking to sever his connection to the Archive.
Sagiri shifted Nokai to his left hand, meeting the blinding flurry with the flowing, circular parries of the Seventh Blade Dance.
The girl was bent on killing him evenif itwas not her will. Her mission was now to kill him, paired with the fact that she was a Sekana and the Sekana relic couldn’t possibly harm her. She was a lethal threat.
"Nokai!!" Sagiri called, and the blade tore apart into as many blades as could fit in the underground amphitheatre. He released the blades in the same heartbeat to meet with Kiana’s needles.
Sparks and silver lightning illuminated the dark chamber with every collision, casting violent shadows across the crumbling ceiling. Nokai snapped into one in the next instant and was back in sagiri’s hand.
Across the hall, hundreds of Soulless troops crashed against Squad 25’s defensive line, turning the flooded amphitheater into a raging battleground.
Kaka’s axes cleaved through iron breastplates with thunderous impacts, sending armored corpses splashing into the flooded trenches.
Maita and Zolinka fought back-to-back beside the wounded Lira, their blades flashing in desperate rhythms to keep the swarm at bay.
The air was thick with the stench of blood, sulfur, and burning alchemical fuel from the ruptured generators.
Sir Black watched the chaos from the high platform, his mocking laughter returning as he saw the blood dripping from the young Keeper’s fingers. He leaned over the brass railing, his silver mask gleaming with triumphant malice.
"You cannot defeat the Apex Soulless!" Sir Black taunted, his voice echoing over the clash of steel and dying screams of soldiers.
"She was forged from the bloodline of your ancient executioners, conditioned to sever your soul until nothing remains of the N’folu!"
"You will die in this dark pit, Last Keeper," Sir Black screamed in gloating triumph. "Your friends will bleed beside you, and your precious Archive will be harvested from your cold corpse to crown a new god!"
Kiana stepped forward across the narrow top of the broken stone column, her silver needles spinning between her pale fingers with lethal grace.
Her emotionless face showed neither malice nor pleasure, only the cold certainty of an automated execution.
Every strike she prepared was designed to dismantle his vital nerve channels one by one, pushing the duel into a catastrophic tempest of dark steel and silver void light.
The surrounding air distorted under the growing metaphysical pressure of their opposing bloodlines.
Sagiri held his ground, his left hand gripping Nokai with unbreakable resolve as his twin crimson eyes burned with ancient fire.
The pain in his poisoned shoulder faded beneath the towering inferno of his raw anger.
Kiana came in for another strike and sagiri, but sagiri did not defend this time, and he met her fist with his. Their two fists met in a deafening crush, shaking the very foundation of the cavern.
"A Sekana fighting with the villains is shameful. Wake up!!" Sagiri yelled, trying to get through to Kian, but even he knew it was futile.
