Chapter 186: An Understanding
Chapter 186: An Understanding
"Relax," Marion suddenly muttered before tossing the egg towards Adrian, "I’m only slightly fascinated by its mana, I have no intention of possessing something that’s not human."
"..."
He suddenly recalled something before correcting himself, "erm... Except necessary."
Adrian caught the egg, feeling the heat coming from it, before looking back towards Marion with a blank expression.
The next second, he lifted his hand and grabbed what seemed to be air.
That is, until he coated whatever he was holding in his shadows, revealing a string that led towards Marion, who now had a cheeky smile.
"Nice try," Adrian said as he detached the string from the egg.
"Well, it was worth a shot," Marion answered with a shrug, "I should’ve suspected you’d sensed it."
Adrian looked at him for a while longer before sending the egg into his [Shadow Vault] as he started walking towards the exit.
"Since I helped you retrieve that," Marion said as he followed behind, "I’d like to consider us even."
"For what?" Adrian asked without slowing down.
"For saving me," Marion answered as they reached the cave’s entrance, "we owe each other nothing now."
"We don’t," Adrian nodded before a pair of black wings formed from shadows, appeared on his back, and the next second, he flew upwards.
Marion watched him go with narrowed eyes before following behind. He had planted a string in the egg because he was curious about what Adrian intended to do with it.
Though the string being discovered that easily was not something he expected. After all, he had ensured that even someone with mana senses would find them impossible to locate.
But it seems he underestimated his future vessel too much....something that he had no intention of doing again.
The two soon exited the volcano and looked towards the representatives.
It seems they returned just in time to watch the S-rank Salamander be encased completely in ice.
The horde also seemed to have been completely dealt with , judging by the sheer amount of bodies lying all around.
Darius, sitting on the ground with a charred fist, thanks to the void flames, suddenly looked up and spotted the two approaching.
He wasn’t the only one who spotted them, because soon enough, all the representatives looked in the sky as they approached.
Without saying anything, Adrian landed and walked directly to Renelle’s side and asked, "Are you okay?"
"Hmm," she nodded, looking at the S-rank ice statue she created before turning to the prince, "I had help."
Lucian looked completely out of gas right now, judging by the sweat on his forehead and the way he seemed out of breath.
The Saintess was crouched by his side with a wind spirit in her palm, one that was blowing cold air towards the overheating prince.
A scene that would’ve been funny if they weren’t currently surrounded by multiple beast corpses.
"I see," Adrian nodded before turning back to her, "I’m glad then."
Renelle looked at him for a while before turning towards Cassian, or rather Marion, who was standing a distance away.
"It seems you also had quite the unusual help," she said with a small chuckle.
"Hmm," he nodded again, "he was quite useful, though he did try planting a string within it."
A long silence followed after that, of course Renelle also knew that Cassian was definitely not the one currently in that body.
Though she didn’t know Marion enough to know what he was like, all she knew was that he was weirdly obsessed with possessing Adrian’s body.
But strangely enough, he seemed completely uninterested in everything else.
That didn’t stop her from glaring at him either way, causing Marion to stare at her in confusion.
Adrian’s body and entire being belonged only to her, and no one else was allowed to own it.
Not that she’d say that out loud... especially not in front of this many people.
Adrian, meanwhile, glanced up at the recording magic tools hovering above them.
He and Marion had managed to shake off the one following them earlier by using the volcano’s smoke as cover, leaving their spectators completely unaware of where the two had gone until they reappeared.
Which might raise suspicions, but no one would care enough to ask....or perhaps, the church might.
"Let’s head back," he suddenly said as he looked back at Renelle, who was still glaring at a confused Marion.
"Hmm," she nodded in response and turned around.
"It seems we were only waiting on you, dear butler," Cedric suddenly spoke up, "would you mind filling us in on your whereabouts?"
"I was taking care of something important," Adrian simply responded, completely aware that Cedric was unaware of his deal with the Grand Duke.
"More important than keeping your lady safe?" Cedric asked with a frown. He was certain that the butler was one who always placed Renelle first, so what the hell happened during the beast horde?
"That’s enough, brother," Renelle said with a frown of her own, "I gave him permission to leave."
"..." Cedric silently looked at her for a while before letting out a sigh and finally muttering, "Fine."
With that, he also turned around and headed back towards the forest, the other representatives following behind them.
Marion looked up at the sky before smiling, "I wonder what your mood is like right now."
He apparently said that to no one, but the subtle distortion in space told otherwise.

Whilst the twelve other representatives returned from beyond the eastern markers, the church’s representatives were in a different part of the forest.
In the hand of one of the two was the magic tool that was supposed to broadcast their actions.
He clenched his fist slightly, completely breaking it before he dropped it and looked towards the other representative.
There was still that unsettling smile on their faces even though they were now completely alone.
"Plant it," he said.
"Hmm," the second representative nodded before crouching and, with a sudden movement, he withdrew something from his robe and quickly stabbed it into the ground.
The next second, their eyes suddenly started glowing as they muttered something that sounded like complete gibberish in a single tone,
"Αναμένουμε την άφιξή σας, κύριοί μας."
