Chapter 2440
Chapter 2440: Chapter 2440
Seeing him about to go out, Ruan Jianguo frowned and asked, "It’s so late, where are you going?"
Duan Xi explained a bit.
Shu Jiao also frowned, then said, "Jiaojiao is right, even though you aren’t usually in contact, you should go have a look. Go on."
Duan Xi then drove off.
When Duan Xi arrived at the hospital, Duan Sishu was already covered with a white sheet, stained with blood. Feng Nianian, with her big belly, was crying inconsolably, collapsing into Jiang Xun’s arms multiple times, unable to stand.
Jiang Xun held her gently, not knowing how to comfort her, only holding her shoulder, patting it occasionally.
Beside them stood a few people — Duan Qianyang, Duan Qirui, and Duan Xin.
Duan Qianyang occasionally pinched his forehead, seeming uncomfortable. Seeing Duan Xi approaching, he glanced at him, just about to get up, when Feng Nianian suddenly stumbled forward, falling to the ground before anyone could react.
Jiang Xun was startled, not expecting her to suddenly slip from his embrace and fall. After reacting, he quickly bent down to help her up.
But Feng Nianian avoided his hand, holding onto Duan Qianyang, who also reached out.
Feng Nianian, her face full of tears, looked at him. "Uncle, I don’t have a mom anymore, I won’t ever have a mom again... What am I going to do... Mom..." She cried, trying to throw herself onto the white-sheet-covered Duan Sishu.
Duan Qianyang helped her up, and Feng Nianian fell into his embrace.
Duan Qianyang did his best to comfort her, "Nianian, don’t do this. You’re pregnant; if not for yourself, think of the child in your belly."
Feng Nianian, unsatisfied with the promise she heard, continued to sob.
Duan Xi had already approached, his gaze sweeping over her, finally landing on Duan Sishu on the hospital bed.
His gaze lingered for a while, catching Duan Xin’s attention.
He nudged him with his elbow, and Duan Xi retracted his gaze, then refocused on Feng Nianian, who seemed so grief-stricken she might faint.
He said something that made her heart skip a beat, "She was poisoned."
"What?" Duan Xin didn’t react, looking at him puzzled.
Feng Nianian went completely rigid in Duan Qianyang’s arms, surprise flashing in her eyes.
Duan Xi’s expression was calm, speaking as if he were remarking on the fine weather, "It wasn’t a natural death; she died of chronic poisoning."
Now, everyone froze, staring at him in shock.
Duan Qianyang, forgetting about Feng Nianian in his arms, moved in front of Duan Xi, asking, "Xiaoxi, what are you saying? You’re saying your aunt was poisoned? How do you know?"
Feng Nianian’s hand beside her was clenched into a fist, desperately listening to Duan Xi’s next words.
But what Duan Xi said next nearly made her laugh, "I smelled it."
Duan Xi’s senses were more sensitive than others, especially since Duan Sishu had been chronically poisoned for months, carrying a scent distinctly different from others. He barely needed to sniff deliberately, just standing there he could sense something was off.
"Poisoned?" Duan Xin was still full of disbelief. "How is that possible? It wasn’t an accident... How could it be poisoning? Who would poison her?"
Sitting on the ground, Feng Nianian’s heart tightened again upon hearing this.
Until Duan Xi answered, "I don’t know."
