Chapter 2435
Chapter 2435: Chapter 2435
Jiaojiao was both embarrassed and anxious, yet there was nothing she could do.
When they got downstairs, Jiaojiao saw two familiar figures approaching from afar, and was suddenly startled. She immediately buried her head in Duan Xi’s chest.
She really didn’t want these two people to see her face, but she knew that even if they couldn’t see her face, they would still know who they were.
When they used to live here, they would often see this elderly couple living in the same building. The old man was a professor at Qing University, but not from their department, nor the same school as Duan Xi.
But his reputation was well-known at Qing University because he was really strict, comparable to a high school dean.
Jiaojiao really didn’t want to be seen by him, but obviously, reality was pretty harsh. Even though she tried her best to shrink into Duan Xi’s arms, she could still vaguely hear that old professor saying to the person next to him with a snort, "Nowadays young people are really outrageous, nothing like how we were in our days."
Walking beside him was his kind-looking wife. Upon hearing this, she gave him a sideways glance and turned to ask with concern, "Xiaoduan, what’s going on?"
"Professor Wang, Granny Wang." Duan Xi greeted politely.
Seeing this, Jiaojiao had no choice but to show her face and, blushing, said, "Professor Wang, Granny Wang."
"Your face is so red, are you having a cold or a fever?" the old lady asked, looking at Jiaojiao’s flushed face. After that, she shook her head and said, "Flu is rampant right now, even though you are young, you should still be careful about your health..."
As she continued talking, what followed was a series of small talks. Jiaojiao felt extremely embarrassed, yet she had to perk up and listen, especially when she saw how energetic the old lady became, seemingly with no end in sight, which made her pinch Duan Xi’s waist in embarrassment.
Duan Xi sensed her displeasure, and the large hand on her waist patted reassuringly. He then looked at the two in front of him and said, "Sorry, my wife is feeling a bit unwell, I’ll take her upstairs first."
"Oh... then hurry on up." The old lady finally realized she had said too much and quickly waved her hand to urge them upstairs. "Go on and rest well, take some medicine, and if it’s not better, you should see a doctor. Don’t just ignore it because you’re young."
"Alright, thank you." Duan Xi nodded and thanked her very politely.
Then he held Jiaojiao, who dared not lift her head after greeting them, and walked upstairs. When the two of them reached the corner, Jiaojiao distinctly heard them still discussing.
"Young people nowadays are really outrageous, hugging and holding each other outside," said the old man.
"How are they hugging and holding? Didn’t you hear that Xiaoruan is unwell?" said the old lady.
"How unwell can she be? I see, it’s just them being outrageous nowadays," replied the old man.
The old lady couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him again, her gaze filled with disdain: "Do you think everyone is like you, such an old fossil!"
"Hey, how can you say that? How am I an old fossil?"
"You are an old fossil..."
"..."
It seemed like the two were still arguing, but as they got further away, Jiaojiao couldn’t hear clearly, although it sounded like they were bickering.
Jiaojiao made sure there was no one around, then looked up and gazed at the person holding her with a faint look, "Brother Xi, ’wife,’ huh?"
His address was quite smooth, as if the two had really already registered for a marriage certificate.
