Chapter 2291
Chapter 2291: Chapter 2291
However, Jiaojiao couldn’t keep up her momentum for long. Climbing seven flights of stairs had left her out of breath, so much so that she had no energy left to maintain her demeanor. Clinging to Duan Xi’s arm, she whispered complaints, "Brother Xi, let’s install an elevator when we’re rich."
"Sure," Duan Xi nodded, helping her catch her breath.
Jiaojiao stood at the door, taking several deep breaths before finally feeling better. She puffed out her chest proudly and walked inside, only to have a figure rush up to her, "Boss, you’re finally here!"
The one rushing over was the youngest-looking and most lively member of the team, Yang Chen.
He wanted to cling to Duan Xi and lament but stopped abruptly upon seeing Duan Xi’s disdainful look. He whimpered pitifully, "Boss, if you didn’t come, we were all going to freeze to death!"
"Boss, Miss Dan is still in the meeting room and hasn’t left," Sha Qian came over, speaking in a lowered voice.
Sha Qian had been puzzled when he received Duan Xi’s instructions yesterday; he didn’t understand why the contract was suddenly off. But Duan Xi was the boss, and regardless of the reason, as employees, they would comply. Besides, they all trusted him.
What he hadn’t expected was how persistent Dan Chun was.
He had called in the morning to explain, to prevent her from making a wasted trip, but she still came. She stayed in the meeting room the entire day, refusing to leave, emanating cold air, making them too afraid to hold meetings nearby.
Upon hearing this, Duan Xi nodded. Just as he finished nodding and was about to speak, the meeting room door opened. Dan Chun stood at the door, her gaze cold as a knife, sweeping sarcastically over Jiaojiao before settling on Duan Xi. Her tone was mocking, "I thought Mr. Duan was going to avoid me for a lifetime."
By nature, Dan Chun rarely argued with others as she did yesterday.
She was genuinely upset yesterday, but after parting unhappily with Ruan Bo, she wasn’t too worried. She didn’t believe Duan Xi would be so unprofessional to treat such an important matter as a joke.
Besides, she believed in her own excellence, and thought anyone with a sliver of discernment should know how to choose.
She had indeed taken a liking to Duan Xi, and this wasn’t their first meeting; they had met long ago.
When she was a junior exchange student in Beidu, she had seen Duan Xi. Duan Xi was quite famous throughout Beidu—handsome, from a distinguished family, and so exceptional himself that none of the socialites in Beidu disliked him.
Before returning home, even before meeting him, she had heard of him but wasn’t interested back then.
She was never someone unaware of her beauty. She knew how striking her looks were, but she had never prided herself on her appearance, thinking it was just a facade.
So when her aunt often praised how outstanding Duan Xi was and mused about how they would make a great match, she only listened with slight impatience.
She wasn’t looking for someone who’s all looks and no substance. She knew all too well what the wealthy and influential young men of Beidu were like. Few were indifferent to her appearance and most were superficial.
It wasn’t until she met Duan Xi that she realized she was wrong. As her aunt had said, he was truly exceptional, different from the others, and a perfect match for her.
