The King of Urban Mercenaries
Chapter 1934 - 1939: Dark Matter
Time flowed on, and Lin Fei noticed that the galaxy was slowly becoming more complete. At the same time, in the central part of the galaxy, there seemed to be some kind of radiance. Lin Fei really wanted to go to the center of the galaxy and take a look, to see what was inside, what it was that gave birth to the galaxy. Was it a Big Bang?
Lin Fei didn’t know, but her field of vision kept drawing farther and farther back. The galaxy before her eyes shrank from a colossal behemoth to about the size of a flatcake. Right after that, Lin Fei saw that in the pitch?black space all around, galaxies were suspended one by one in the void, just like microorganisms in water, simply hanging there.
As for this so?called void, it was like a glass of water set on the ground, a cup of water that no one was touching.
Lin Fei suspected this was some person’s experimental feed, watching the ceaseless changes of the matter they had defined inside, until it finally catalyzed the emergence of this kind of life.
But then, all of a sudden, an incomparably pitch?black thing appeared. Lin Fei still hadn’t seen the end of the universe, yet she had already discovered that the universe seemed to have turned into a rotten apple, constantly being destroyed. That was the power of darkness.
The power of darkness was like a drop of ink falling into a globe of water, ceaselessly diffusing. At the same time, Lin Fei’s vision kept zooming in, and the starry sky around her was like a light curtain within the darkness. Bands of densely packed stars streaked past behind Lin Fei, and at last Lin Fei finally saw it.
The darkness was actually continuously devouring this starry sky. The starry sky before Lin Fei’s eyes was being consumed by that darkness, and in the end turned into a region of pitch?black, colorless nothingness.
Lin Fei didn’t know what it was like inside, but she felt that this blackness filled her with terror, like a darkness that could devour everything. It seemed that if Lin Fei merely reached out her hand and extended her arm into it, it would be swallowed by the darkness at once. Lin Fei was just oppressed by this feeling; she didn’t know why, she just had this feeling.
Watching the starry sky being devoured bit by bit, Lin Fei didn’t intend to go forward, but that power forced her to move quickly ahead, as if her body was no longer under her control. Then, at close range, she saw what that black substance really looked like.
Hiss!
Lin Fei drew in a sharp breath. That dark thing was actually...
A kind of living creature?!
Shocking!
Utterly shocking!
Horrifying!
Overwhelmingly horrified!
Lin Fei had never expected that black substance to actually be a mass of densely packed tentacles, and each tentacle was a thousand times larger than Lin Fei. Moreover, those tentacles sprouted even smaller tentacles, like nested dolls, or perhaps more aptly, like tree roots—once there was a single source, it could continuously spawn more tentacles without end.
At the same time, these tentacles kept branching. The large ones split into more small tentacles, the small ones in turn split into even more minute tentacles. In the end, Lin Fei clearly saw that some tentacles were even the size of her own palm—yet the shapes of those tentacles were terrifying!
Like knives? But not as sharp as knives. At the same time, on those small tentacles grew more densely packed, even smaller tentacles. Just looking at them stirred nausea and chilled the soul!
And don’t be fooled by the fact that they appeared in the void; the actual effect they produced was truly terrifying. Lin Fei watched as the void was slowly melting, like winter snow thawing, then turning into black power.
Lin Fei couldn’t understand what was going on. And those tentacles one after another—did they have abilities? Did they have power? Did they have intelligence? Did they have consciousness?
Were they thoughtless? Completely without will? Or were they just the lowest of low?level cells? Toxic cells? Like the tumor cells in a human body, like cancer cells, brimming with destructiveness and contagion? Were they?
Lin Fei didn’t know, but Lin Fei understood one thing—that she had to run now!
But she couldn’t control her own body. Lin Fei watched as those forces surged rapidly toward her, and then...
She was swallowed in a single gulp.
No, it should be said she was dragged into it by this mysterious force. Lin Fei looked around and saw nothing, but when she closed her eyes, she suddenly returned to that mysterious place again, watching planets being slowly devoured. Even the sun could not inflict any harm on those tentacles and was still slowly being consumed.
Boom!
It exploded.
But those tentacles still remained unscathed, continuing to devour everything before them. The instant the explosive energy touched that Dark Matter, it was ground away, unimaginably terrifying.
Just as Lin Fei wanted to leave, she suddenly saw people rushing over from afar. These people were four to five meters tall, but they all wore long robes. Seeing this scene, they frantically attacked those things.
Lin Fei sensed that their attacks could swallow the heavens and rend the earth, yet they still could not inflict any damage on this Dark Matter.
"Kill!!"
This group of a dozen or so charged forward, but that black substance seemed to possess intelligence. It suddenly pierced through one of the Cultivators like lightning, and then that person’s body began to slowly vanish, finally turning into Dark Matter and returning to the main mass of that black thing.
Lin Fei was stunned. She hadn’t expected this result. Even such powerful attacks were useless? Lin Fei was truly shaken!
"What’s going on? How can it be that strong?" Lin Fei had no idea where these things came from, but they were unimaginably powerful and overflowing with destructive force.
Lin Fei was terrified. After the black tentacles killed the last person, they suddenly turned to look at Lin Fei?!
Lin Fei panicked!
After the tentacles killed and devoured those people, eyeballs actually grew on the tentacles?!
That’s right!
Eyeballs—perfectly clear black?and?white eyeballs—grew on the tentacles, rolling back and forth, until they finally fixed on Lin Fei. Then, all of a sudden, they lunged toward her.
Just as Lin Fei found it impossible to move, she suddenly realized that her entire body was blazing with light. In an instant she vanished from that place, and when she appeared again, Lin Fei discovered that she was inside a room.
Lin Fei was puzzled. Could everything just now have been a dream? But Lin Fei felt that was impossible; it shouldn’t be a dream, it had to be real. Yet in front of her was an ancient?looking room. Lin Fei stood up from the bed and discovered that she was actually dressed like someone from antiquity.
Then Lin Fei flipped through some books and found that she couldn’t recognize any of the characters in them. Lin Fei put the book down, intending to leave this place. After all, this wasn’t where she wanted to be. She was thinking about how she should get back.
Lin Fei walked toward the door, but just then someone suddenly came pounding over to the doorway, dressed in black, long sword in hand, thrusting straight at Lin Fei!
