The Kind of Evil
Chapter 670: A system.
As night came, Ma watched Rasmus’ ability to restore damage in the courtyard. He didn’t have enough energy left to be shocked by what Rasmus was capable of. He stood there, watching debris turn into tiles, pillars, walls, and the roof, restoring the courtyard back to how it used to be.
Ma already heard about Rasmus’ plans and what he was going to do with the Heavenly Alliance. He thought that Rasmus would use the Heavenly Alliance to deceive the masses, but he didn’t expect that Rasmus wanted the Heavenly Alliance and the clans to fight the threat they had faced earlier, which was the Demonic Cult.
"There’s something unsettles me, Alliance Leader," Ogun spoke as he approached Ma and stood beside him. "Have you seen anything like it?" He looked at Ma, watching Rasmus do his magic.
"No, but we have a record that the previous emperor was capable of rebuilding the palace that had been burned to the ground in a single night. Perhaps, this is how the emperor did it back then," Ma answered as he put his hands behind his back.
"I’m not talking about that, Alliance Leader," Ogun shook his head. "I’m talking about him. I could see what you see in him, Alliance Leader. A man with such power that could make the whole continent bow before him, he chose not to. He had no desire for power and status, and he also didn’t pretend to be a saint, a hero, or someone who upheld righteousness. Someone with such power but have no desire for anything other than destruction, yet at the same time, he doesn’t find joy in it. It’s as if he does it because he has to or as if someone is telling him to," he pointed out.
Ma listened to Ogun’s words, but he already thought of it and made the same conclusion as him. There was something mysterious about Rasmus that he couldn’t grasp, something that was right in front of him, but he just couldn’t see it.
"I believe that’s why he wanted us to observe him. He doesn’t want to give us the answer, he wants us to judge him based on what he does," Ma nodded.
Rasmus managed to restore the courtyard, and once he was done, he looked at the two full moons. He stood there for a while before he turned around and looked at Ma and Ogun, who were standing there watching him.
"Did Anastasha finish her explanation?" Rasmus asked as he stood in front of them.
"Yes, we have heard about the incident that happened to the Siyen family. If what she said to be true, then the war is inevitable," Ogun nodded and rubbed his chin. "If the Demonic Cult truly played a part in the conflict of war with the Kingdom of Sultans, they truly tried to take advantage of the situation and reveal themselves when the time was right," he added.
"With the existence of Evil Gods, and assuming that the two of them are working together and helping the Demonic Cult, a catastrophe would befall on this empire," Ogun crossed his arms and stared at the ground. "And if the Asghar family also played a part in this conflict of war, it only make the war happen even faster," he narrowed his eyes.
"That’s why, I need to get rid of the Khan Empire first," Anastasha suddenly responded as she walked out of the building with Nie behind her. "You must be wondering why the Khan Empire has something to do with it. The answer is simple," she rested her hand on her hip and put her weight on one leg. "To lure the worm out, one must wet the soil. Destroying my family is easy, but as long as they still have power behind them, they will rise once again. Even if I killed my own blood, those people in power will replace them. So, I need to find those people behind the curtains, luring them out as the empire is about to fall," she explained.
Ma silently observed, staring at Anastasha and Ogun, but there was one thing that he was more curious about. He glanced at Rasmus and he didn’t seem to be interested in the discussion, he was a spectator in the discussion. Unlike Rasmus, Anastasha didn’t pretend to hide her obsession, her ambition, or her desire. She put all of them right on her face, which was more dangerous than those who pretend to be noble but scheme behind the curtain.
"And what will you achieve in doing so, Princess Asghar? Once you get rid of everything, what is is that you want? Count Blackheart stated that he wanted to see a new world where humankind doesn’t bow or obey other than the system itself. But I can see in your eyes that you clearly doesn’t want that," Ma spoke with a serious expression. "If that’’s the case, you’ll soon be seen as an obstacle to him, is it not?" He narrowed his eyes and stared into Anastasha’s green eyes.
Ogun stopped his thoughts and looked at Anastasha, trying to read her expression when Ma asked the question. However, instead of hiding it like anyone would, Anastasha smirked playfully and stared at Ma with a mischievous gaze. Ogun then glanced at Rasmus, and his gaze was fixated on Anastasha as well, wondering if he also didn’t realize it or if he was just curious about what she was about to say. On the other hand, Rasmus already knew what she was after, and it was a system called the Ouroboros.
"I have no desire to rule, but it would be a blatant lie if I said I have no desire for power. After all, I’m an Asghar," Anastasha answered.
"And what’s that exactly?" Ma asked.
"I want a system, a self-sustaining, a self-consuming system that relies on nothing but itself, and a self-sufficient system that it loops back to itself. A system that grows and adapts to stay necessary. The system that control the imbalance, and it produces an inevitable reaction that produces conflicts. That conflict is what I’m looking for. I’ll observe the conflict, predict it, and maintain it," Anastasha revealed without hiding a single thing. "I’m not ruling the system, I’m a part of the system itself. However, the power that I seek isn’t the power to control, but to anticipate where and when the conflict will happen, when and how the conflict ends," she explained.
"You want a system that controls chaos?" Ogun narrowed his eyes.
"Not chaos, imbalance. Do I look like I’m that naive to believe that there’s such a thing that can control chaos and conflict?" Anastasha chuckled as she looked at Ogun. "However, the system does require chaos. Let’s just say, I’m dealing with human’s greed and desire while you maintain peace," she smirked.
Ma glanced at Rasmus and once again, Rasmus didn’t show any reaction to the absurdity of Anastasha’s ambition.
"Do you already knew about this, Count Blackheart?" Ma asked.
"I do, she had shared her vision before I landed to this continent," Rasmus nodded.
"And what do you think, Count?" Ogun turned to look at Rasmus.
"It’s worth to see," Rasmus answered after he took a moment. "Whether it works or not, whether it does something good for humankind or not, it’s worth to learn from it," he pointed out.
