Chapter 326 - Husband's Funeral
"Mrs. Siera is an interesting person. I must say this. However, it is our bad luck that you escaped before we could have our hands over you or your children." The other party commented which brought a frown over her cold face.
"I guess, that is your misfortune that we never met. You should be grateful, otherwise, if we did, you might not be able to survive till this long." Sierra replied with the same intensity of aloofness that came instantly.
She wasn't acting, yet there was the part of her trying hard to hide all the worriedness and fear beneath her mist. 'If I appear weak or try to hang up, this man will instantly get alerted about me being afraid?'
Knowing how the underworld society worked, she wouldn't be too surprised if the other party also tries to track and kidnap her.
Yet, this was only if she gave them any hint about her fright and horror.
"Hahahaha… we will meet.. surely meet, but probably on the day of your husband's death or his funeral!"
With this, the other man hung up on her, making her bring her phone down to stare at it for the next few seconds.
There were no sentiments present in her eyes, except the distantness that covered her face. "They have now started to trace me as well…"
She wasn't sure either, however, it was a big deal to consider. After all, she isn't all alone, but her life is associated with her children as well.
Without delaying further, she brought another phone out of her pant's pocket to dial a special number over it.
Biting her lower lip, she waited for the other side to be answered yet to no avail, it never did. But she never let herself be demotivated by this as well. Dialing the number once again, she patiently waited, until she heard a sweet voice of a lady.
"Yes? May I know who this is?" Recognizing the voice instantly, Sierra spoke, "Transfer the call over his landline. I wish to talk with him."
"May I know about you as well?" The lady was none other than her husband's office's receptionist. "It's Siera."
"Oh.. Sure, Ma'am. I will do the needful." Answered the receptionist before she transferred the call over to her boss's landline number.
Sierra's lips were sealed into a straight line as she continued to tap her fingers over the railings.
However, her grip tightened when she heard a muscular voice, "Siera. How have you been?"
"Jack. It isn't good. Th..they have traced me here as well.. in this state." Sierra can't keep her calm as her voice was enough to depict her turmoil of emotions.
Instead of trying to pull the act of bravery, her face crumbled down as the fright was taking the troll over her entire head. "What have they done to you? Did someone follow you there?" Jack enquired.
"N-No.. but.. I received a call from someone who talked about you, me, and my children. He talked about killing you.. funeral and what not!" At this point, all Sierra wanted to do was just blurt everything that happened with her.
As her eyes were wide with uneasiness, her heart continued to beat at the unstatic rate which brought her almost on the edge of a heart attack!
But in contrast to her mess, Jack kept the same level of calmness inside him, "Take a breath, Sierra. You can't just be so weak… it was just a call."
"A call about treating!" She corrected him, only to be neglected by his eyes. She wasn't shocked either since it was already known to her that Jack wouldn't react.
Instead, the words must have already registered in his mind to the level where he will do his personal research rather than showing her even a tinge of it.
As per his commands, she took deep breaths to control her raging nerves. The call which she received, must have been normal but it was the alarm of risking her children's life.
"Jack, we need to do something. Noah and Ailey's life is in danger. We can't take any risk with these two at all." Sierra responded with a serious and intact face.
"Isn't that why you went there as well? They might try to scare you but they don't have the power to attack any of you in the state. Trust me, I know the protocols working out there very well." Jack's answer never satisfied her with any kind of satisfaction either.
She wasn't convinced since, inner eyes, this was all bluff. As per her, she was all alone in this state, with the two pumpkins tagging along.
Yet, unknown to her, there were two giant men trying to safeguard her from all the chaos around her.
A tired sigh escaped her lips when she felt the lack of response from his side. Massaging her temples, she opens her mouth, "How are things there then?"
"As usual. No movement. There was a bit, but again under control." Came a straight reply and to the point answer from his side, which didn't shock her too. "That is good to hear out. At least some peace is needed."
"That is our farthest relative, Siera." She can't help but agree to this anymore. Their sleep has already vanished with the increased pressure over their shoulders, especially over Jack.
But then, what Siera felt was the awkward silence that took place between them. 'He is acting some kind of different..' knowing him well enough, she was easily able to differentiate between his gestures too.
"Jack, is everything really fine out there?" Sierra once again asked, with a probable uncertainty written over her face.
The only hope she carried was to not get any negative answer.
"Well, Siera, I Have something to inform you." Hearing this, Sierra's brows shifted from their possible as something twisted was sensed inside her stomach, "What is it?"
"We got the documents here. The only thing we need is signatures....You will be free afterward."
