Chapter 1475: Golden Statue
Chapter 1475: Chapter 1475: Golden Statue
Lin Tian couldn’t wait to see how the wall was constructed behind this. As he urged Wang Sijing to walk across the drawbridge, he said, "The ancient people’s wisdom is truly boundless. It’s hard to imagine how ancient people excavated so deep and built such a lifelike wall hundreds of years ago. And the mechanisms and traps above are exquisite, even modern crafts would find it hard to match."
Hearing this, a look of pride appeared on Wang Sijing’s face. She chuckled and said, "It’s not about ancient people’s cleverness, it’s about the Wang family’s intelligence. I only pursue the path of cultivation and have no interest in these side tricks. Besides, you’re quite shallow."
"How am I shallow?" Lin Tian retorted.
"Do you know about Qin Shi Huang’s Mausoleum? That’s the truly grand and magnificent construction; its area alone is as large as 78 palace halls, with inner and outer cities. Scholars have calculated that it would take around 150 years to dig up Qin Emperor’s Mausoleum. Compared to it, our Wang Family’s structure is like a straw hut."
"Of course, compared to Qin Emperor’s Mausoleum, the world’s largest mausoleum. Our Wang family’s Spirit City can’t compare, but when compared to the ancestral halls of other family clans, it’s definitely superior. You can ask Mr. Xv if you don’t believe me."
At this time, Xv Jiazhi, who was at the end, smiled and said, "Indeed. In terms of dedication and grandeur, my Xv Family’s cannot match the Wang Family’s. Our ancestral hall is built among green mountains and waters, which is much more modest."
Wang Sijing did not engage with Xv Jiazhi’s words but continued, "The reason for building this Spirit City is not only to allow us descendants to pay our respects but also to give our Wang Family’s ancestors a peaceful place away from intruders."
At this point, Wang Sijing paused and glared at Lin Tian and the others behind her, saying, "Unexpectedly, there are uninvited guests after all."
Lin Tian chuckled softly; he was not there to disturb the ancestors of the Wang Family, merely to find something.
Yet, in the eyes of Wang Sijing and other Wang Family members, he was indeed an uninvited guest!
"Are the Wang Family’s ancestors buried here?" Lin Tian asked, feeling his question was redundant, but since there were many burial chambers on the upper level, he couldn’t help but inquire.
Sure enough, Wang Sijing looked at Lin Tian as if he were an idiot, answering the question with just a look.
"But wasn’t there already a lot of tombs on the upper level?" Lin Tian persisted.
Wang Sijing’s brow furrowed, "How do you know that?"
"Guessing, what else could they be for?"
"Those are indeed burial chambers, but inside are some collateral branches of the Wang Family. Those buried inside the Spirit City belong to the Wang Family direct line."
In one sentence, it sums up the importance of blood lineage. Despite carrying the same surname, the treatment between two branches is vastly different. Yet, from Wang Sijing’s words, it seems being laid to rest in the fourth-level burial chamber is an honor for those collateral branches.
At this moment, the four had crossed the drawbridge into the Spirit City.
Unlike outside, there were no light sources within the city; it was pitch black. With the aid of the headlamps, what lay ahead wasn’t a city but a grand hall built from stacked stones.
Intricate carvings, lifelike stone statues of mythical beasts, and even four pillars of a huabiao stood at the front of the grand hall.
Huabiao, an ancient architectural style of the Celestial Dragon Continent, was not exclusive to palace halls. It also represents a totem, possessing a heavy sense of spirit and aura.
Unlike the palace huabiao, these four pillars had no luxurious carvings, but were inscribed densely with small characters. Upon closer inspection, they were records detailing the Wang Family’s history and development, along with tomb inscriptions and the names of Wang Family ancestors.
The grand hall had windows, which served as decorative elements, adorned with carvings of clouds and petal designs.
The hall also had a six-part door, left open for people to come and go.
Wang Sijing led the way, heading towards the interior of the hall. She shed her previous lazy demeanor, knelt before the grand hall, and kowtowed three times resoundingly, showing genuine sincerity.
After kowtowing, Wang Sijing stood up, her body straightening firmly. Despite having an injured arm, she did not show any negligence, proceeding steadily but not hastily towards the hall.
Knowing it was a gesture of respect for the ancestors, Lin Tian didn’t urge her.
What truly accelerated Lin Tian’s heartbeat was the feeling that the Lu Ban lock was in this grand hall!
Wang Sijing led the group through the six-part door, only to discover that the hall’s interior was far smaller than it appeared from the outside. This was entirely due to the numerous burial chambers lining the hall’s sides, much more luxurious than those on the fourth level.
Lin Tian was uninterested in these burial chambers; besides the burial objects within were the remains of Wang family ancestors. He definitely did not believe that the Lu Ban lock was taken all the way from Tianya Haijiao City to merely become a burial object.
On either side were burial chambers, while a wide avenue remained down the center, paved with stone bricks, producing a light sound as one walked on them, as if truly disturbing the Wang Family ancestors.
Suddenly, the rope Lin Tian held tightened a bit. Then he saw Wang Sijing walking towards a spot beside the six-part entrance.
There was a small pedestal, one meter square beside where they entered, on which Wang Sijing picked up a fire striker, then blew a few times until the flames sputtered forth.
Next, Wang Sijing ignited an oil lamp with a beast head on the stone pedestal.
With a ’boom’ the beast head lamp caught fire, and the flames proceeded along the wall as if a fuse were concealed within.
Before Lin Tian and others could inquire, Wang Sijing explained, "Just a little trick. There’s a small groove in the wall with some lamp oil inside."
As she spoke, the flames continued to pass through the grand hall, and soon all the beast head oil lamps embedded within the wall were lit up, making it as bright as daylight.
In the deepest part of the hall, another flame appeared. It was another spiritual altar placed there, dedicated to still spirit tablets.
Unlike the previously seen altar, this one was much more luxurious, with the letters on the tablet shining golden, undoubtedly coated with gold powder.
The most eye-catching thing was behind the altar, where a golden statue stood towering! Twice the size of a common person, chest high, head high and full of grandeur.
