The Invincible Strongest Student
Chapter 1371: Privilege
Chapter 1371: Chapter 1371: Privilege
"Yeah, your injuries really aren’t serious. You’re damn lucky, but you’ll still have to lie in the hospital for a while." Lin Tian sat by Li’s bed and said. He had just given the kid another check-up; things were better than he’d expected.
Li grinned, carefree as ever. "Hey, perfect chance to take a break. But let’s say this up front, you can’t dock my salary while I’m here. I’ve got a girlfriend now, plenty of places that need spending."
Wu Yong laughed. "You’re the one in charge of finances. On this matter, you can basically decide for yourself, right?"
"Then this should count as a work-related injury. Why don’t I approve a few hundred grand in compensation for myself?" Li said with a smile.
"Get lost." Wu Yong glared at him with his tiger eyes.
Li smiled again and asked, "Then make it less, a hundred grand?"
"You’re dreaming of shit to eat!" Wu Yong cursed.
Lin Tian ignored the two jokers. He cleared his throat lightly and got to the point. "Alright, knock it off. Li, just focus on recovering here. Let this kid Wu Yong take care of the company business. And besides the meds the doctor prescribed, I’ll give you some auxiliary stuff to get you back to bouncing around as soon as possible."
Li glanced at Lin Tian and nodded. "Second Brother, thanks."
Lin Tian grinned and cursed, "Thanks my ass. Hurry up and get better so you can work for me."
"Got it, boss."
After chatting a bit more, Lin Tian got up and said, "Alright, we won’t disturb you two resting. We’ll get going."
"Okay, then Huanhuan and I won’t see you off." Li said.
When Lin Tian, Mei Ruyan and Wu Yong walked out of the ward, Zhang Ya’Er followed right behind them.
Wu Yong had originally thought she was just seeing them off, but unexpectedly she followed them into the elevator.
Wu Yong asked, "Ya’Er, didn’t you say you were staying at the hospital to look after that kid Li?"
Hearing Wu Yong’s words, Lin Tian also glanced at Zhang Ya’Er, but then it clicked. She’d been hospitalized twice and both times Li had looked after her. Now it’s Li lying in there, how could she just walk away?
Zhang Ya’Er said, "I’m going to the supermarket to buy some things. There’s only fruit and flowers in the room, nothing to eat if you get hungry at night."
"Stuff like that shouldn’t be your job, right? Aren’t there other care workers?" Lin Tian asked.
"It’s nighttime now, you can’t really find a caregiver. Wait until tomorrow." Zhang Ya’Er said.
"Alright, then we’ll leave Li to you. Make sure you take good care of him." Wu Yong said, then his smile turned sly. He nudged Zhang Ya’Er’s arm with his elbow and laughed. "I think you’re prettier than Huanhuan. Why don’t you give it a shot?"
Zhang Ya’Er widened her apricot eyes and glared back at him. "Scram."
Wu Yong wasn’t offended, he just burst out laughing.
Ding~
The elevator reached the first floor. The four of them stepped out one after another and only split up when they reached the inpatient department entrance.
Zhang Ya’Er headed toward the supermarket. When she turned back and saw she’d put some distance between herself and Lin Tian and the others, she finally took out her phone from her bag and dialed a seven-digit landline number.
Five seconds later, the call connected. Zhang Ya’Er said, "Help me check up on a man named Huang He."
...
By the time they got to the parking lot, Wu Yong was planning to go his separate way from Lin Tian and the others—he had driven himself, after all. Ever since he bought that luxury car, he had to drive it everywhere, claiming it was all about "class," but really it was just to fool a few clueless young girls.
Just as the two were about to part, Lin Tian suddenly called out, "Wait."
"Tian, what’s up?" Wu Yong turned back.
"Let’s make a trip to the traffic police bureau. This isn’t over." Lin Tian said in a low voice.
Wu Yong met Lin Tian’s gaze for a moment, answered "Okay," then followed him and got into the front passenger seat. Lin Tian and Mei Ruyan sat in the back.
The driver Jiang was a sharp guy. He’d heard what Lin Tian said, so he started the car, took a turn, and headed toward the traffic police bureau.
The car cruised along at a steady pace all the way to the bureau.
Kanyue City has a population of over twenty million. Lots of people, lots of cars, which means lots of traffic accidents. So besides the main traffic bureau, Qingshui City also has several traffic sub-bureaus. The accident Li had by the school falls under the jurisdiction of Kanyue City’s Third Traffic Sub-bureau.
Lin Tian didn’t care which sub-bureau was in charge. Coming to the traffic police bureau was never the wrong move!
Right now, whether it’s Bai Group, Qiansimei or Black Gold Security Company, they’re all well-known enterprises in Kanyue City. With that, the status of people like Bai Shishi, Wu Yong and Mei Ruyan has naturally risen with the tide. At regular dinners, having a few senior officials at the table is nothing unusual.
It was already nine-thirty at night. The Kanyue City traffic bureau chief, Yie Pengfei, hadn’t gone to bed yet, but he was getting ready to. Half an hour ago, after he received a call from Bai Shishi, the chief put his suit back on and personally rushed from home to the office again.
When Lin Tian and the others arrived at the traffic bureau, a junior officer was already waiting in front of the traffic police building. The chief had specifically briefed him about Lin Tian and Wu Yong. Even if the young officer hadn’t known who they were, a quick search online would have told him. Seeing the two now, he hurried up to them.
"Mr. Lin, Mr. Wu, our chief is waiting for you in his office. Please follow me." The young officer said respectfully and began leading the way.
They took the elevator up to the eighth floor. The officer led the three of them all the way to the chief’s office door before stopping, then gently knocked.
"Come in." Yie Pengfei’s voice came from inside the office, deep and weighty.
The young officer pushed the door open, brought Lin Tian and the other two inside, then saluted Chief Yie Pengfei before leaving.
Yie Pengfei was sitting in a leather ergonomic chair behind a solid-wood desk, hands clasped and resting on the table. As he looked at the three of them, a smile played on his face.
Yie Pengfei had a classic square face, around fifty years old, with a full head of black hair. When he smiled, he gave off a very gentle vibe, like someone easy to get along with.
Of course, Lin Tian knew you can’t judge people by appearances. Anyone who could sit in that chair—who among them is actually easy to deal with? Best to stick to business.
Yie Pengfei smiled at the three of them and said, "You really are young. Please, have a seat."
The three naturally didn’t stand on ceremony. They went over to the sofa and sat down with calm ease. Before Lin Tian could speak, Chief Yie said, "I already know why you’re here. That traffic accident is currently being handled by the comrades at the sub-bureau."
After speaking, he pointed at a folder on the desk. "This is the result of the investigation. The hit-and-run driver and the vehicle have already been tracked down."
Wu Yong stepped forward and picked up the rather heavy folder.
Beyond the physical weight of the folder, Wu Yong could feel a kind of invisible, untouchable privilege. This file in his hands—outside of authorized police personnel, not just anyone gets to flip through it. That’s what privilege is!
