Chapter 1903: To The Last Drop of Blood (2)
A distance away from the increasing turmoil, a group of people zoomed through the forest.
Gelmar, Vivian, and the Queen returned to the Dark Elf Kingdom with hurried strides. Along the way, a mutated wolf managed to catch up to them, bearing an urgent message from Flunra. It relayed about the approaching danger that was heading straight for Dargena City.
Every single kingdom under the Clarentium Empire was making its move to stop the horde.
It was reassuring.
And considering the teleportation formation installed on their lands, logistics and coordination became much easier. But as reassuring as these things are, the danger came from extraterrestrial forces. Came from another realm.
Resting easy is not something they could do right now.
“How are we going to prepare when there’s not even any time to do that?” Vivian thought aloud.
Gelmar’s lips were sealed shut as he, too, didn’t know what to do.
Just then, he remembered something.
“No. We have time,” He looked ahead like he was seeing through the lustrous forest. “Even if the horde gets past the Dwarves—and Tigerman, it still needs to go through two Dominions to reach Dargena City. And there’s also the Humming Damned Forest. There’s still time.”
Swish—!
A whistling sound reached their ears.
Gelmar and Vivian looked up, seeing a gleaming green arrow piercing through the sky.
Seeing this, the Queen reached her hand up and channeled dark nature energy into her hand.
Her energy was noticed by the arrow as it flew down and landed on her hand.
“What is that?” Vivian asked.
“It’s a message,” Gelmar’s eyes narrowed—knowing that this was one of the long-range message spells that the Elves used during wartime. And from the golden fletching—the one who fired it was no doubt Queen Shanaela. “It’s from the Elven Queen.”
The Dark Elven Queen unrolled the parchment wrapping around the arrow and read it.
Her face immediately turned grim.
“Bad news,” She said as the message evaporated. “The horde can force through Dominions.”
A few minutes later, the group arrived back at the Dark Elf Kingdom.
Along the way, a Dark Elf sentry approached them and informed them that King Jorik’s long seclusion was over. It was a success. He had broken through to the next rank, but he was panicking when he could not find the Queen anywhere.
He was especially worried after learning what happened to Naela.
So, the Queen was urged to come back soon.
But Gelmar and Vivian couldn’t stay.
Since they have no time to prepare, they need to quickly return and prepare Dargena City’s defenses.
“Stay,” the Queen grabbed Vivian’s hand before she could follow Gelmar.
“I have to return,” Vivian frowned. “I have a responsibility there.”
“Captain Gelmar would be able to handle the capital city. I need you here.”
“…”
Even though Vivian was completely confused as to why the Queen would want her to stay, she decided to stay when she saw the seriousness behind the Queen’s eyes. She was brought inside and then to the castle.
“Bring her to Madam Qonvale,” the Queen instructed.
“Yes, Your Highness,” the Dark Elf knight nodded, and then gestured for Vivian to follow him. “Come.”
“Explain the situation to Madam Qonvale,” the Queen urged when she saw Vivian was confused as to what this was all about. “I’m sure she can help resolve the approaching danger. I’ll talk to the King and have him prepare the army.”
Vivian was escorted through the hall and made a turn into a secluded corridor.
Only one person’s scent lingered in the air.
“Right through this door,” the Dark Elf knight stepped aside and gestured toward a big door that almost touched the ceiling.
Since the Queen said this Madam Qonvale could help resolve the situation, Vivian wasted no time and opened the door. She stepped into the spacious bed chamber and saw a figure across the room, looking outside the glassless window.
Specifically at the fractured sky.
But she was blind—Vivian could tell from the black band wrapping around her eyes.
“Madam Qonvale. I am Vivian of the Silverstar Pack. I need your advice—there’s trouble.”
“I know.”
Slowly, Madam Qonvale turned around and clasped her hands on her stomach elegantly.
“The night is longer than normal, and that’s a bad omen.”
“Yes, indeed. It’s the Blood Moon. It sent an invincible horde to annihilate Dargena City.”
“Good gracious,” Madam Qonvale walked to the side, sitting slowly on the chair by the bed. “The Blood Moon does really pick the best time to do that. No wonder it can get away with doing this much. And he can probably get away with a lot more.”
“Sorry?” Vivian’s brows furrowed. “What do you mean by that?”
“The Demon God is distracted by the sudden appearance of the Angels and their mysterious new God. The Blood God of the Vampires is occupied by the Abomin—” Madam Qonvale caught herself, pausing for a heartbeat before continuing smoothly. “—the Fated Child growing within the Vampire Princess’s belly. The Undead—and Dragon God aren’t active lately. And the Shapeshifters’ ever-changing God is fully engaged helping the Shapeshifters survive the world’s awakening.”
Vivian was taken aback when she heard this.
She didn’t know that someone was keeping tabs on deities like this.
And this also made her even more certain that perhaps Madam Qonvale really does have a way to handle the situation. “Do you have any way to stop the horde?” Vivian asked with hope. “I heard from people that the Dark Elves don’t have a good relationship with the emperor. This could change it.”
“The solution is quite simple.”
“We are dealing with the Blood Moon. A Lunirich God. How is it simple?”
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a God.”
“In that case, tell me how! Quick, time is running out!”
“First, I want you to promise me that when this is all over, you will relay a request to the emperor and make him agree.”
“Are you actually bargaining right now?” Vivian’s eyes sharpened. Her fangs elongated as she snarled in anger. “Your kingdom is on thin ice—and you dare to make use of this moment to bargain? Choose your next words carefully. It may seal the destruction of your kingdom.”
Madam Qonvale didn’t flinch.
She could hear the growl, the anger, the frustration, and yet she didn’t flinch or back down.
“The Dark Elves will be fine if the Blood Moon succeeds.”
“Fine! I’ll relay your request. Now tell me how to stop the horde!”
Madam Qonvale allowed herself a small smile—and rose, making her way toward the door. She paused beside Vivian and whispered without turning her head, “God or not, this realm belongs to us. No deity has ever ruled here, which is precisely why every high-ranking Supernatural race has a God of their own.
“All we have to do is wake the world up and direct its attention towards the source.”
“What…?” Vivian pivoted, still confused. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, we’re going to shatter the Blood Moon,” Madam Qonvale continued her strides. “Come.”
According to Madam Qonvale, the first step to stop the invincible horde would be to get the attention of the world. And to do that, they needed a lot of sacrifices. No need to have everyone use their lives as sacrifices.
Mutated animals or Order Beasts would do.
So, the entire Dark Elf Kingdom’s army was sent on a mas-hunt.
Vivian also informed Gelmar about this.
Even Dargena City’s own forces were dispatched to participate in this mass hunt. Gelmar went further, asking the people to empty their food reserves, which consist mainly of hunted meat, and send every single ounce to the Dark Elves through the teleportation formation.
It was a monumental request, but no one complained.
In fact, they all participated fervently to keep their city safe.
But unfortunately, the first batch was denied by the Dark Elf Kingdom.
“We need live sacrifices,” Madam Qonvale said to Vivian. “Not dead ones.”
“Live sacrifices…? That’s going to be far more difficult to do. Do we even have the time to do that?”
“We’ll gather as much as possible and hope for the best.”
“What? We need guarantees. We can’t rely on hope. Is there no other way to go around this?”
“Hope is the best guarantee right now,” Madan Qonvale sighed and shook her head. “If the horde can even break through Dominions, then what do you think our defenses would do? Nothing. The world is our only bet.”
“Relax. Breathe.” Jarvald said, placing a steadying hand on Vivian’s shoulder. “Once we’ve marked all the targets, we’ll overwhelm them with numbers. Catching mutated animals will be easier that way. It’ll probably take no time until we have enough.
“Gelmar and I will try to subdue an Order Beast or two.” He added.
“Can you even take down an Order Beast?” Vivian held his hand and asked. “Is it possible?”
“Normally, no. But the Blood Moon is overhead.” He forced a chuckle, willing his voice steady even as his heart pounded against his ribcage. “If it comes down to it, I can let it overwhelm me. Besides,” he paused, grasping for certainty, “I’m not entirely sure, but I believe Lord Ryze might come with us.”
Hearing this was quite an assurance.
Vivian feels a lot better now.
Just then, Jarvald noticed someone calling him, which was a cue that it was time to move.
He dashed away, following the Awakened to the Order Beast’s location.
“How are we going to pull the attention of the world, anyway?” Vivian asked, dubious as throughout the process, Madam Qonvale hadn’t made any preparation at all. Not making a formation—or anything that would smooth the process.
“The world only responds when there’s a threat to balance,” Madam Qonvale explained, looking up at the Blood Moon’s glow. “Someone who is abnormally stronger than the entire populace, for instance. That will trigger a reaction. But the horde?” She shook her head. “The Blood Moon wouldn’t make that mistake. It knows the ceiling of power in this world. The horde should be well below it.”
Madam Qonvale knew that the energy level of the world increases to accommodate higher power.
Right now, the path to the tenth-rank realm is already open.
But the Blood Moon wouldn’t risk nearing that ceiling, so the horde wouldn’t be at the tenth-rank realm.
Must be at the peak ninth-rank or pseudo-tenth rank.
“But I doubt the Blood Moon knows that the world had only awakened.” She smirked mischievously. “For a God, that’s a minuscule event in the grand scheme of things. It would not understand that right now, the world favors the mutated animals. Not the intelligent races.”
“So, that’s why we’re going to use mutated animals and Order Beasts as sacrifices…” Vivian nodded.
Since the world favored the beasts, an unnatural number of deaths would certainly alert the world.
As long as there are enough beasts killed, then the world wouldn’t stand by.
But there’s one problem.
“Still—how do we direct the world’s attention to the Blood Moon?” Vivian looked skyward, recalling that their plan was to shatter the Blood Moon’s hold on this world. “If we kill the beasts ourselves, are we not going to be the target?”
“Good thinking,” Madan Qonvale praised, but then, her face turned grim. This was precisely the hardest part of the entire process. “Forcing a reaction from the world is easy, but this is not. To direct the world’s anger to the Blood Moon, we have to capture one of the beasts from the horde and have it kill all of the mutated animals and Order Beasts we gathered.”
Just capturing one of the beasts from the horde is already hard enough, but it didn’t stop there.
They would also need to force that beast to kill the sacrifices.
And considering the Blood Moon wanted it to destroy Dargena City, it wouldn’t attack the sacrifices.
Even if that was not the case—even if the beast attacked the sacrifices out of pure bloodlust inherited from the Blood Moon, the Lunirich God of the Blood Moon was watching from above. He would notice what they were attempting. And he would stop it.
This is going to be hard to accomplish, but there’s no other choice.
“We’ll have to try,” Vivian whispered inwardly.
