Chapter 1845: Protect the Silverstars (3)
Chapter 1845: Protect the Silverstars (3)
The army outnumbered the Godlings at least two to one.
Good odds.
In the unified mind of the werewolves, a plan crystallizes as they charge. No chaotic rush. No blindly attacking the nearest Godling. Instead, they would encircle one Godling—werewolves and the other close-combat races, taking turns attacking while Elves hung back, finding sightlines for the killing shots.
But first, the strongest one must find out how strong the Godlings are.
One must first find out if they truly have a chance.
’This is our first war in the name of the Clarentium Empire,’ Mavok thought inside. He was galloping like a murderous beast while his gaze fixated on a particular Godling that was also doing the same. ’The first war to make an impression on the Royal Black Prince after our kingdom has been burdening him with troubles.’
An intense burn of determination spread across his chest, making him move faster.
“Indirect Moon Ability: Savage Impulse!!”
Mavok roared as he lunged, meeting the Godling’s claws with his.
Boom—!
A powerful light red shockwave exploded, sweeping through the battlefield like a forming tornado.
He poured almost all his strength into that attack, and his eyes widened.
’I’m only about even with this?!’ His mind raced as the result of his clash against the Godling was not as he expected. A stalemate. ’I’m one of the stronger ones in the army, and yet I can’t even push it back properly?!’
Only now did he truly realize that the Godlings weren’t weak.
Sven made them look weaker than they are.
“Only Alpha Primes clash directly with them!” Mavok shouted as he retreated.
Anyone else would be reduced to mincemeat if they tried to clash head-on as Mavok did.
Alpha Primes are the only ones who could hold their own with their King Marks.
Splash—!
Mavok’s warning came too late as the first wave of the army was splattered into a mist of blood with a single slash from the Godlings. And as expected, only the Alpha Primes sustained the slash and stood firm with only bruised arms and internal wounds.
Basically nothing for werewolves of their caliber— their regeneration is too strong.
Dwarves slammed their hammers and summoned a wall of stone to buy time for the first line to regroup.
Awakened summoned their spirits, and some even shifted into their gladiator forms, enhancing the wall with their elemental mana and spirit energy. But even with the fortification, the Godlings drilled through and slaughtered the first few rows.
Not many could even have a chance against the second strike.
And those who did found themselves too wounded to even stand back up.
“Kyarggkk!”
One particular deafening scream echoed across the battlefield.
It came from an Awakened.
He didn’t seem to be wounded badly, only a horizontal cut across his chest—but he screamed anyway. And then, to the others’ surprise, his eyeballs exploded and were replaced by another pair that eerily resembled the Blood Moon.
Like a berserk animal, he turned around and attacked his own friends.
Many were caught off guard by the sudden turn.
“Hey! Restrain yourself!” A Dwarf bear–hugged the Awakened from behind tightly, stopping him from rampaging even further.
But the words couldn’t reach him.
“Kill me…” the Awakened whispered amidst the rage.
An elbow struck the Dwarf’s face, disorienting his mind for a second as the blast pushed him backward.
His bulky body easily found footing—but the Awakened was already upon him with a blade of wind in hand, ready to decapitate him. In the nick of time, a circle of violet fire manifested on the ground, and it blasted the Awakened, turning him into dust.
Adhara hovered in the sky and decimated those who got infected by the Godlings’ rage.
She didn’t want to kill them, but there was no room for compassion right now.
It’s either be decisive or die.
“They can inflict the Blood Moon’s berserk!” Mavok shouted at her from below. “The Luna!”
Only luna energy can completely tame the rampaging rage from the Blood Moon.
Adhara didn’t need to turn to send the thought to Evelyn, telling her to do something about their people being infected and going berserk. Her eyes flickered with fore as four Godlings lunged at her when they recognized their true target.
Each of them was moving swiftly and deadly, branching out to attack from all sides.
Adhara’s hands pulled on her Fire of Jealousy and swirled upward in a vortex.
Oxygen was scorched from the air as the payload detonated, hurling the Godlings backward. And—as their feet touched the ground and carved long trenches, Adhara bursts from the vortex—like a phoenix resurrecting from its own ashes.
Her gladiator form now encased her, and her spirit coiled on her shoulder, hissing with anticipation.
Alongside her fire was the glaring power of the White Omicron that now wielded divine strands, making it glow brighter and whiter. As the Godlings’ eyes and souls burned under the sheet of pure white, Adhara searched for the fear that had been present ever since the departure from the human territory.
Fear of not being adequate enough to be the Silverstar Pack’s Female Alpha.
She let out a slow exhale. She couldn’t find that fear anywhere in her.
’I am the Female Alpha of the Silverstar Pack. Chosen by him to be the protector in the absence of his shadow,” Purple flames devoured her form. And her spirit hissed in savage glee. ’Even the terrors sent by Gods will not go past me.’
Adhara and her spirit descended.
Like a comet, she crashed onto the ground with force.
A massive explosion blasted thunderously, decimating half of the entire valley in violet flames.
Two Godlings were decimated—before they could make a second strike at her, and the other two were damaged badly, but recovered almost in an instant. The fire pulsed in Adhara’s hands as she charged at them without hesitation.
The sharp curve of her claws carves through the flesh of a Godling as she slides to dodge a slash.
From under, the ground exploded with a fountain of flames, drowning the Godling.
Another struck Adhara from behind at the same time as the Godling before her turned into a blood mist and escaped the scorching flames. A dozen exchanges happened in a split second, creating sparks of red and white.
It was a two-on-one, but in reality, it was a two-on-two.
She danced between glinting claws. Her spirit that assumed the shape of a serpent no larger than a very common snake, coiled along her body. Up and down. Arms to legs. And lashed out its tail in a snap at the passing Godlings.
Each lash ignited the Godlings from within, flames bursting from their backs like a blooming flower.
Adhara carves her claws into the third Godling and bites off its head in quick succession.
And then she kicked the body away, right as the fourth arrives from behind, only to strike air. It dissolved into a blood mist, anticipating an attack from behind, and reappeared a distance away, but Adhara’s speed was faster than it anticipated.
Her claws pierce through God-flesh and God-bone alike.
Profoundly warm blood wetted down her arm. The fragrant scent of divinity teased her nose. And—the sound of choking and puking that came from the fourth Godling’s mouth caressed her ears. Ferociously, Adhara pulled her claws upward from his stomach and seized the spine before ripping it out alongside his head.
Splash—!
Four Godlings fell, and a Silverstar stands.
Across the valley, while battling the other batches of fearsome Godlings, the army bore witness to her spectacle as clear as day. Howls tore from werewolves’ throats. Cheers erupted from humans and also supernatural alike.
None of them managed to fell a single Godling.
But Adhara showed them that it was possible.
Just that they need to try harder.
Seeing the rising morale of these mere mortals before them, the Godlings rushed forward and turned into a meat grinder. Blood, organs, and flesh were thrown everywhere as their claws rend through the defense of mortals like paper.
Sven and Adhara could face them because of their unique bloodline.
But the others? Nothing.
Growl—!
An alpha werewolf growled in pain as he was hacked by a Godling’s claws right on the stomach.
He was thrown aside as the Godling scanned the area, searching for more meat to kill.
However, it felt something grab its leg.
It was the alpha werewolf. Whether by luck or a lifetime of brutal physical conditioning, the nonchalant swipe hadn’t cut deep enough to slice him in half. He lived. “Don’t underestimate me, God-born. I have always fought knowing death could take me at any moment. Have you ever?!”
A maniacal cackle escaped the alpha werewolf’s mouth as he bared his bloodied fangs.
“Insect,” the Godling grabbed the alpha werewolf by the neck and roared directly before his face.
Behind that roar was the power of the Blood Moon.
It sucked the blood right out of the alpha werewolf’s body, draining him completely dry and weak.
Even as his body became pale from the lack of blood, his grip persisted.
“Bid your goodbye to your home,” the alpha werewolf said. He used his remaining energy to laugh at the face of death. “This place will be your grave. You will die along with mere mortals!”
Roar—!
Brutally, the Godling tore his head off, killing him instantly.
However, he soon realized there were dozens more cresting the ridge, bearing down on him. He bared his claws and roared—a crimson shockwave detonated and staggered his enemies. And with quickness, he impaled the nearest one through his chest.
An old dwarf with thick arms suffered the fatal blow.
Death is already behind his eyes.
He knew what would happen to charge straight at a Godling, and he didn’t flinch at the stab.
A cynical smile crossed his lips.
And with determination, he hugged the Godling’s arm and turned his body into stone with the old spell of his race, making him countless times heavier. Surprised, the Godling couldn’t hold up his arm, as it was anchored down.
Just the thought of a mere mortal, who isn’t even a Silverstar, think he can do something is laughable.
He sneered and raised his claws to deliver the final blow.
But at that moment, he heard the dwarf’s heart already stopped beating.
It then dawned upon him that the dwarf sacrificed his source of life and power to maintain the spell even after death.
A noble sacrifice.
Another pounced on the Godling out of nowhere, grabbing hold of his other arm. He thrashed around, throwing another dwarf away, but more took over. A dozen try to seize his limbs. Others used their bodies as a shield to let a dwarf get close enough to reach.
Even as the one before had their bodies splattered into a mist of blood, none of them stopped.
It was maddening for the Godling when another dwarf held down his right leg and anchored it.
“Mortals should bow down and die!” He roared.
From the gap, a brave Awakened lunged. He mounted the Godling, legs locking around the Godling’s neck as mana and spirit energy churned frantically through his veins. His eyes were bloodshot, utterly red. Already taken over by the Blood Moon.
But he didn’t attack his friends.
“Nobody can touch the Silverstars!”
Kaboom—!
The Godling staggered for the first time as the self-sacrifice explosion actually damaged him.
Half of his face was burnt to a crisp, but it was healing, slower this time.
More lunged at him and detonated their bodies.
A cluster of explosions could be seen from a distance, drowning the Godling, and at the center, he was gasping for air and broken. With the anchors on his leg and arm, he didn’t have the mobility to avoid or attack all of these lunatics who viewed their lives as nothing.
He was forced to eat the explosions.
A figure then pierced the smoke.
Its eyes left behind trails of green. An Alpha Prime.
He cuts through the distance and reaches the Godling, claws sinking into the chest.
And with the wet sound of a rock thrown into a pond, the Alpha Prime carved out the Godling’s heart and then tore off his head before moving onto the next target.
