The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1770: Red Sheen’s Intervention

Chapter 1770: Red Sheen’s Intervention

Physical exhaustion and mental exhaustion.

Energy depletion, both life and voidal energy.

Poisoning.

And then severe wounds.

Rex’s current condition basically checks every single weakening state that one could have.

If anyone were to assassinate another, this was the perfect moment.

No amount of planning can compare to how perfect this situation was; ambushing a target—far beyond exhausted. Empress Morgana took that chance—without a second thought. She simply could not fathom any way Rex could resist her.

Achieving triumph against the Archangel of Knives should wear him down to a helpless state.

But she was wrong.

Clang—!

Empress Morgnaa’s eyes widened when her blade was stopped by an invisible energy.

One that she couldn’t perceive entirely, even with her power.

It was… unnatural.

Moreover, the way Rex’s head snapped around to anticipate the attack earlier looked utterly unnatural, almost like it was done automatically. As if his head had an independent will, a deeper instinct that had seized control to warn him of the approaching danger.

Just like Empress Morgana, Rex was also mildly surprised.

From the moment he deactivated the Blank state by deactivating the new organ in him, he felt that the organ was still somewhat active. No matter how hard he tried to deactivate it fully, it never came to be, stubborn to keep on beating.

Clearly, he thought he still hadn’t had full control over it.

He would need to ask Kei Xun later about it.

But that was clearly not entirely the case.

It’s connected to my beating heart. It couldn’t deactivate because of my beating heart.

Rex didn’t understand entirely, but this must have something to do with his rapidly beating heart.

Even though the battle was over for quite some time, his body hadn’t calmed down at all.

And that somehow kept the new organ active.

Seconds ago, when Empress Morgana launched an ambush, he could feel it coming with his senses, but reacting to it was another thing—entirely. He would be able to normally, but not in this state. But at the very last second, power surged inside him and pushed his reaction to the limit.

It sent him back to his Blank state and stopped the blade from cleaving his head off.

“H-How?” Empress Morgana exclaimed through gritted teeth. “How can you still do this?!”

She couldn’t believe that Rex still had a trick up his sleeve.

Oblivious to her, this trick was obtained not too long ago, before he even killed Stelios for good.

Even though she clearly couldn’t budge the force, she kept pushing, unwilling to accept that she couldn’t overpower Rex in a head-on confrontation. And it shows. Her arms were trembling, and her life energy was flaring with might.

Nothing.

She couldn’t overpower the invisible force at all.

“Evelyn said you weren’t going to keep your word, and she was right. I’ve put my faith in you, and I’m even willing to forgive you for setting me up, since you don’t seem to have a choice,” Rex pivoted his body fully to face her. “But now you do have a choice… and you still chose wrong.”

“I am the last descendant of the Angel Race in this world. How can I watch and accept this?!”

“Don’t kid yourself. You’re not an Angel, and never will be. You’re a Spirit. Accept it.”

Boom—!

More energy exploded from Empress Morgana’s body, cracking the ground underneath.

From the void behind Rex, a bow of intricate, radiant holiness manifested in an instant.

Its string drew back of its own accord, thrumming with intent, and loosed a single arrow of condensed light. A huge amount of life energy was concentrated into that one arrow—turning it into a payload that could easily kill an Eternal Spirit ten times over.

Coupled with the gears she was wearing that boosted its speed and output, the arrow launches.

But like earlier, Rex’s reaction suddenly bursts.

He tilted his body and avoided the arrow as it brushed past him and stabbed the ground with a crack.

Rex looked at the arrow stabbing the ground, and then looked at Empress Morgana again.

A low, rumbling growl escaped his throat as his molten eyes glistened with killing intent.

“No, you can’t!” Amanir’s voice cuts through the silence the moment he senses killing intent from Rex, warning him—that killing Empress Morgana is only going to set them back. “You can’t kill her. Expose her to the emperor, and she’s done.”

Upon hearing this, Rex’s tense shoulders relaxed.

He stared at Empress Morgana, who was still trying to kill him, and tilted his head.

“What is your plan here?” Rex asked quietly. “What will you achieve by killing me? I don’t get it.”

“I don’t need a reason to kill the enemy of my race!” Empress Morgana roared—as a shockwave burst from her, rattling the entire platform. “You killed an Archangel, and that’s more than enough reason for me to have you killed!”

“You mean this thing?” Rex raised Stelios’ head, droopy and disgusting. “Is this really the person you’re fretting over? I don’t know what he promised you, but I know one thing about the Angels: none of them are reasonable.”

Even though it was hard to focus on other things earlier, Rex saw how Stelios treated her.

And it was nothing less than a person.

Why would Empress Morgana fight and defend someone who doesn’t respect her?

On the other hand, Rex had afforded her respect from the first whisper of her name; each of his actions was done with her in mind. All for the hope of earning her favor in return. And yet, the careful structure of regard crumbled to dust in an instant the moment she learned he was Stelios’ enemy.

And now, become the executioner of Stelios.

Her hostility was immediate, absolute, and rendered every prior gesture utterly meaningless.

Even though Rex wasn’t the one who initiated the battle.

Heck, he didn’t even have anything against the Angels as of yet.

For being attacked out of nowhere by the greed of one Archangel, he was supposed to be the victim.

And yet he was treated like this. And yet she still sided with the one who thinks she was beneath him.

Such a wonderful situation.

“If you don’t kill me right now, I promise I will use the forces of the entire empire to hunt you down,” Empress Morgana said—with determination. “I make you the enemy of the empire, skin you alive, and let the peasants piss and vomit at your corpse.”

“Are you hearing this, Amanir?” Rex asked, slightly turning his head without breaking eye contact.

“Yes,” Amanir sighed as he tried to break free. “Yes, I heard what she said.”

“And you’re still insisting on not killing her?”

“Yes… Yes, I know it’s stupid. But we can’t mess with the emperor. You’ll die instantly.”

“Ah, I doubt that,” Rex smirked, staring Empress Morgana down like he was looking down at a child, throwing a tantrum. He then cupped her face with his hands, staring into her eyes, “Don’t worry, I won’t kill you. I’m going to expose you to the emperor.”

As he did that, Empress Morgana kept trying to slice his head off, pushing hard with the muscles in her arms that were bulging. But she simply couldn’t. It was frustratingly confusing—but there’s simply no chance she could break free.

Her only victory was a savage wrench of her neck, freeing her face from Rex’s grasp.

“Quickly open that chest, Amanir,” Rex instructed again, this time more seriously.

Even though he could stop Empress Morgana right now, he couldn’t move, not until he attacked her.

And at this moment, even if he wanted to, he has nothing to really hurt her to take her out of the count.

Rex could only rely on this new power of his, though he didn’t know exactly what.

“You’re not getting away with this,” She gritted her teeth hard. “You’re not going to get far!”

“You think?” Rex grinned as he looked skyward, staring at something. “What do you say about that?”

Empress Morgana paused; her heart skipped a beat.

She tilted her head upward, afraid that the others had arrived already since it was Stelios who retained the distortion of their location using the Major Law of Radiance. Now that he’s dead, everyone tied to the empire would be able to find them.

And that includes Kaine or even the emperor himself.

However, what she saw was worse than them.

“Nobody would believe you, empress…”

A figure slowly manifested from light.

It was a familiar face, a priestess that Rex saw not too long ago during the Blood Moon Echo creation.

High Priestess Alana.

From the moment the trial bestowed by the Highseat of Invincibility concluded, with him becoming a Blank, Rex noticed her presence almost instantly. It seemed—she had been trying to enter the Tomb of Heroes all this time, but held at the edge of the arena by a barrier she couldn’t cross.

She was blocked by the Highseat of Invincibility for participating.

And knowing Stelios, he must also use something to prevent Rex from escaping.

Either way, she couldn’t enter.

But the Silverstar Pack can enter. I wonder whether it was a coincidence? Maybe not.

Rex has no problem summoning the Silverstar Pack, and that’s something worth noting.

Maybe the Highseat of Invincibility also recognized those under a Scion, who knows?

High Priestess Alana descended.

She swatted the radiant bow that levitated behind Rex like it was nothing, and then fixated her gaze on Empress Morgana. “The Divine Saintess has already made her stance clear to the empire,” She declared, brows narrowing to emphasize her seriousness. “If the empire went against Lord Rex, then the Divine Saintess would not be on the empire’s side anymore.”

It was an unexpected and impactful declaration.

One that shocked not only Empress Morgana, but also Rex.

Hmm? Kei Xun did that? I thought we’re now a real rival since I’m now a Scion, too.

Just as Rex thought that, he recalled Kei Xun mentioning something about her not being a candidate.

Something must’ve happened between her and another Scion, so she’s out for the count.

And now, she sided with him.

Rex’s lips curled a little as this was unexpected good news.

He was hoping that Alana could have intimidated Empress Morgana a little, recalling that she was on his side even in front of Kei Xun. But he wasn’t expecting her to drop this delightful bomb. “See—?” Rex’s lips curled wider. “Just give up, and I’ll let you deal with this with your emperor. I won’t meddle.”

“If you’re really the empress, then you’d lay down your weapon.” Alana continued, pressuring her.

Rex and Alana stared at Empress Morgana for a good moment.

Both of them could see the gears turning in her mind.

Each calculation is visible in the subtle twitch of her expression.

Eventually, the grip on the sword loosened as there didn’t seem to be any other choice.

Forcing her way to kill Rex right now would only cause the destruction of the empire.

Or at least, Rex assumed that she was realizing that.

Yes, he couldn’t kill her as she’s technically still the empress, and doing that would be crossing a line.

But she couldn’t kill him either, as that would also doom the empire.

Might not be an immediate effect, but the moment the neighbouring countries knew that the empire lost the help from Kei Xun, the Divine Saintess, then all of them would certainly make a move on the empire, overwhelming it in the end.

Just as Rex was about to let her go, his instincts spiked.

His eyes widened completely when there was a red sheen descending from the sky.

DEG—!

Rex’s heart skipped a beat when he sensed a familiar energy.

He didn’t have the time to look up as he noticed Empress Morgana’s sword gleamed with a scarlet hue, one that he knew too well. “T-This is…” Rex’s pupils dilated as he recoiled backward. “Blood Moon’s energy? Kaiser?!”

Not hesitating at all, Empress Morgana’s eyes glistened as she pushed her sword hard.

Crash—!
