The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1695: Tackling the Impossible

Chapter 1695: Tackling the Impossible

As he falls, the surface grows darker and darker.

Princess Davina’s silhouette gradually disappears, but her voice still echoes loudly.

Desperate, hoarse, and raw with emotions.

Even though Rex didn’t know exactly why she cared that much about him when she normally showed no sign of affection—he could feel that she genuinely didn’t want him to die. He was curious about the reason, but now is not the time.

He averted his focus away from her.

Gritting his teeth with determination, he stabbed his claws into the wall again.

Only one of his arms was free; the other was wrapped around April’s waist to keep her close.

Now he couldn’t move it at all with the black goo binding tightly.

“Eurghh…!”

Rex hissed in pain as his vision blurred from the pain coming from his claws being peeled back.

He managed to stop the fall, but it wouldn’t last long.

Even so, this is exactly what he needed—time.

Rex needed time to think of a solution before he fell right onto the Immortal Slugs.

“What can I do?”

Below, he could only see a pit of darkness.

Even his eyes that worked well in the dark couldn’t see what was on the bottom, and there’s no way he could know how deep the fissure was. Around him, there was nothing other than the crust of earth and the chilling coldness that bit the skin.

“System, how do the Immortal Slugs operate?!”

<Notice: the Immortal Slugs would drain the user of life energy until the user dies and then imprison the user’s soul.>

“What about its main body? Is it solid? Liquid? Separated?”

<Notice: the Immortal Slugs’ body is a lump of thick and sticky liquid. Its size varies.>

“Damn it!” Rex cursed out loud, holding on desperately as this was not a good thing for him and April. It basically means freeing themselves would be harder the moment they reached the bottom. “I need to avoid falling there, but how?”

Rex looked up at his right hand, which was bleeding again.

No chance that he could avoid falling, as he could barely hold on for another minute.

In desperation, Rex bit down on the black goo on his shoulder.

No reaction.

“Tch!” He clicked his tongue in displeasure.

Only then did he remember that Edward had told him that Immortal Slugs didn’t feel any pain.

Naturally, the Immortal Slugs lived up to their name.

Not a single person across the entire empire dared to cross the Immortal Slugs—and there were no one who could defeat them either, as even the Spirit Emperor couldn’t. Heck, even the mature Voidal Monarch was actively avoiding it.

Just to show how scary the Immortal Slugs’ adaptability and power were.

And that only made Rex realize how bad this situation was.

Cough!

Rex turned to April and saw blood drizzling down her mouth.

Even her body felt cold against his hand, which made his heart skip a beat.

“System, scan her condition!”

<Scanning…>

<Notice: April’s life energy has reached a critical threshold. Her Imbalanced Spiritual Vein, riddled with multiple perforations, allows the Immortal Slugs to drain her vitality with heightened efficiency. As of this moment, her Soul Artifact is nearing full depletion. Once exhausted, the Immortal Slugs will begin extracting life energy directly from her physical body.>

“Imbalanced Spiritual Vein…” Rex gritted his teeth so hard he tasted blood.

April had made a bold move to make her Spiritual Vein imbalanced to keep up with his growth.

And now, that proved to be a disadvantage.

Once again, Rex felt responsible.

He should’ve kept his distance from her, but he didn’t, and now she’s in grave danger.

“KAISER!!” Rex roared at the top of his lungs—his voice bounced against the walls and climbed up to the sky. “LEND ME YOUR STRENGTH, AND I’LL HAND BACK YOUR KING MARK! DO YOU HEAR ME?! LEND ME THE STRENGTH TO GET OUT OF THIS!”

His voice rang loudly, but it sounded hollow.

Like he was screaming at the vast sky, which had nothing for him other than indifference.

But he was desperate.

“No,” Rex gritted his teeth. “I must’ve lost my mind for a second.”

Even though he refused to linger in regret and fail the moment, asking Kaiser for strength was wrong.

On top of that, it was futile.

Kaise was probably happy that Rex was going to fail the Spirit Realm and come back empty-handed.

It would be the perfect time to attack him for good, then.

Not to mention, Rex remembered that Kaiser and the Lunirich Gods had their hands tied.

And that was because of him, so Kaiser couldn’t help even if he wanted to.

Just as Rex’s mind spiraled into a mess and his claws were slipping again, his eyes widened.

Internally, he was blaming the serpent for being so petty, even though it wasn’t truly dead. That thought, however, reminded him of the spoils he had claimed from slaying it before—two items that he distinctly remembered were of exceptionally high rank.

“System, show me the two items!”

<Law Clarity>

Item Rank: Divine (Twelfth-rank)

A single-use item that would permanently enhance the power of a Law, but can only be used once per Law. The stronger the targeted Law, the weaker the effect, and it becomes completely ineffective for any Major Law.

<Matter of Monarch>

Item Rank: Divine (Twelfth-rank)

Description: An incredibly powerful material that was created from a big piece of a Voidal Monarch’s heart and blood. It has unmatched enhancement properties, perfect for forging combat gear. Even the residue from this material could be used to strengthen the body or Soul Artifacts.

“This is it…. This is it!” Rex’s eyes widened. “I can use this!”

For the first time in this bleak situation, he could see light at the end of the tunnel.

A solution to get out of this darkness, and even gain more than he anticipated.

Perhaps, this is not a bad situation… but a blessing in disguise!

<Accumulated Parasitic Reaver Echo (SSS) Fragment: 0,45%>

Rex grinned savagely.

His crimson eyes glowed brighter in the darkness of the fissure.

No matter what—No matter what he needs to do, needs to sacrifice, he’s not going to let April die.

All of the past failures… he’s going to crush them all with this success!

“System, use the Law Clarity!”

<Affirmative.>

<Please specify the Law to upgrade:>

Minor Law of Inevitability Minor Law of Misdirection Law of Foresight

“Upgrade the Minor Law of Misdirection!” Rex immediately answered without a second thought.

As soon as he did, a violent surge of energy erupted within him.

It swelled so rapidly it felt as though his very veins were going to burst.

His insides twisted with nauseating fullness, like his body was being force-fed raw power, but for some reason, it didn’t feel painful. Instead, it felt oddly satisfying. The air around him crackled and warped as the power of Law coursed through his flesh, sizzling across his skin like molten lightning.

The Desolate Zone suppressed everything, but it’s not above the power of Law.

Every pore, every orifice, blazed with a blinding yellowish light.

His Minor Law of Misdirection was awakening, expanding, and consuming him in its furious ascent.

Although the sensation was phenomenal, Rex didn’t stop there as he summoned the Matter of Monarch item in his mouth. A marble-sized black pill appeared in his mouth, oozing with an intense amount of voidal energy.

Rex was about to use the Matter of Monarch item, but his senses picked up something above him.

He looked up and saw a small creature with tentacle arms falling.

“Kraken! About time you came back!”

Earlier, when Rex realized Haxel was about to push April into the fissure, he separated from Kraken and sent him to bring Ethan out of the Desolate Zone. Though Rex decided to restrain himself from turning Ethan into his pack member, he would if Ethan somehow survived without his intervention.

So, he sent Kraken to bring Ethan out.

And now, Kraken came back.

Purr!

Kraken purred as he landed on Rex’s shoulder.

“Can you merge with April for me?” Rex asked, coddling to Kraken’s childish nature. “If you keep her alive and well, I’m going to give you anything you want! How about it? Are you interested? I will even let you chase people.”

Hearing this, Kraken paused for a second, almost like he was in contemplation.

Then, he leapt with unrestrained joy before he turned and rushed straight toward April.

In the next instant, his form melted and seamlessly seeped into her body, granting her One with the Rift innate ability. Since she was losing life energy rapidly due to her Imbalanced Spiritual Vein, this innate ability that allowed her to absorb voidal energy and turn it into life energy would certainly help her stay alive longer.

Long enough for Rex to find a way out.

Once Kraken settled inside April, Rex closed his eyes and steadied his breathing.

He recalled the pain from using the Matter of Monarch item, so he was preparing himself.

<The Sable Physique acquisition: 2,15% / 100%>

“A bit more than fifty percent…” Rex mumbled the target to acquire the Sable Physique. “It’s going to be hazardous, painful, but I’m never the one to be afraid or flinch at pain. Come on… For the sake of everything I have, I’m going to endure this.”

Swoosh!

Rex began channeling the Matter of Monarch item, siphoning its energy into his body.

He couldn’t afford to take it slow.

Every second he wasted brought him closer to death, so instead of easing the process, he forced all the energy inside the marble to mend his body at a rapid pace. Reckless? Maybe, but there’s no use playing it safe when his life was already on the line.

At first, there was nothing—no sensation, no warning.

But then, like molten iron poured through his veins, agony erupted within him.

His nerves screamed, every inch of flesh and bone convulsed in defiance, but the pain was able to pierce through even a Werewolf’s constitution. At the peak sting, his body tensed up—so violently his grip on the wall faltered, and the Immortal Slugs’ pull tore him away from the wall.

In the next second, Rex was plunged deeper into the endless pit of darkness below.

The rush of wind pushed against his back.

Coldness bites into his bones.

As he fell, faces flickered within the shadows like ghosts.

Faces of those he cherished—those still alive, those whose fate he didn’t yet know, and those long gone.

Each one flickered into his vision one by one, staring at him—silent, wordless, but burning into his soul like the burning rage during a full moon. They reminded him of why he kept moving, why he endured everything the world has to offer.

For so long, he had believed protecting them was his purpose, his obligation, his punishment.

Unknowingly, these beliefs became burdens that weighed on his back.

Burdens he carried without question.

After all, he was lucky to survive while the people he claimed to love died.

But as the darkness swallowed him, a realization struck him like a lightning strike. Nobody had asked him to bear this burden. No one wanted a martyr. They wanted him to live. To be here—with them, not die for them.

Princess Davina might be nonchalant, but she made him realize that.

For the first time, the fear that had driven him—the terror of losing those he loved—slightly faded.

It had always been that fear that chained him tightly; now, its strength loosened.

Now, Rex wouldn’t continue protecting because he was afraid.

He would continue protecting because he wanted to.

Because he chose to.

And as that truth settled in, the pain he was feeling transformed into a fuel that burns stronger.

Rex’s fall doesn’t feel like a descent to death’s door anymore; it feels like rebirth.

He was no longer a man driven by loss.

He was a protector because that was who he was meant to be, and that’s what he wanted to be.

<Notice: Minor Law of Misdirection has been upgraded to Law of Misdirection!>

Pivoting around, Rex channeled his newfound power of Law and punched forward.

BOOM!
