Failing to do so will bear a heavy penalty.
Time Limit: 1 minute.
…
In the Mortal Realm, seeing a killing intent quest being issued has become very rare.
Rex was too strong and there weren’t a lot of entities that could stand up to him or even pose a threat to him so the System issued no killing intent quest. Now that he was in the Spirit Realm, it will appear more frequently again.
He was conscious of the killing intent quest.
It was one of his reasons for apologizing and being the one with the bigger heart.
For the sake of laying low and avoiding unnecessary bloodshed when he was not ready to fight.
Being in a new place, Rex couldn’t afford to offend someone powerful.
Being killed here although wouldn’t mean his true death, it would still be his death as he would fail to save Devo and also fail to complete the sudden quest to save Nivellen. Offending other spirits is going to be trouble since it would expose him to a chance that the spirit might have a powerful backer.
As opposed to killing spirits, it would be way safer for him to kill Voidal Monsters.
However, it seemed some people only wanted to find trouble.
And Rex wouldn’t hesitate to give this burly man what he wanted.
Noticing the time limit for the killing intent quest, Rex instantly focused back on the burly man.
“Come on then, are you scared?” the burly man barked, rolling up his sleeves.
Rex kept a composed demeanor, staring at the burly man as if he were nothing more than a mere ant.
“Say, what’s your reason for picking a fight with me?” He suddenly asked.
Gritting his teeth with a reddened face, the burly man pointed two of his fingers directly at Rex’s eyes as if that was his answer, “I don’t like your condescending eyes. I don’t like the way you look at me so we’re going to settle this right now, only one of us will come out of this unscathed”
Hearing the commotion, a crowd had already gathered around them.
Some were worried while some were eager to see which of the two would come out on top.
However, the crowd wasn’t ready for what was about to happen.
“I see…” Rex nodded—his eyes glowed as he tilted his head. “Then let’s settle this”
Bam!
“Kuarghkk!”
Out of nowhere, the burly man’s body curled inward as his gaze suddenly shifted to looking down.
‘W-What happened…? What did he do to me?’ He thought inside his head, confused—and also shocked as he couldn’t move his body anymore. It was almost as if someone had paused his body, ‘I can’t breathe and my body… my body feels warm’
Just then, the onlookers sucked in a cold breath.
Some of them had their eyes widened completely while others covered their mouths.
“Hahk…” The burly man then traced his gaze down to his chest and saw that his chest caved inwardly, his ribcages were shattered in a matter of seconds. Realizing what had happened, the warm sensation quickly turned to a stabbing pain as he fell to his knees, clutching his chest while gasping for air. “Hhk… How? When?”
As he struggled to stay alive, he saw Rex’s feet begin to move closer.
Adrenaline helped him to lift his gaze and raise a hand, pleading for mercy to the approaching Rex.
“M- Mercy…” He mumbled in a barely audible voice.
Despite his plea for mercy, Rex’s expression remained cold and stoic.
No sign of empathy could be seen in his eyes.
Even the other guys who were with the burly man were stunned, their friend clearly needed help—but the aura from Rex froze their bodies. In their guts, they could feel palpably that if they intervened, they too would die.
Out of desperation, the burly man turned to the other guys for help.
Blood drizzled down his mouth as his pupils dilated in panic.
“Hel-” As he was about to ask his friends for help, the burly man was surprised—when he suddenly lost his voice no matter how much he tried to talk. It was only then, when the pain reached his brain did he realized that Rex had ripped out his vocal cord.
Once the time limit reached five seconds, Rex grabbed his head and chin from behind.
Crack!
With one brutal motion, he snapped the burly man’s neck right in front of everyone.
Everyone was dead silent when they saw what had happened.
Noticing the commotion, Linthia squeezed through the encircling crowd and went over to Rex.
“What happened? Why did you kill him?” She asked urgently.
Seeing the corpse on the ground, wrapping around Rex’s legs, she didn’t know what to do.
Doing it more discreetly would’ve been way better if Rex was hellbent on killing the burly man, she didn’t understand why Rex did this in front of everyone. But Rex has no other choice, the killing intent quest only gave him a minute to react.
It wasn’t that much time to pull the burly man out and kill him in a secluded area.
As opposed to answering, Rex grabbed the corpse by the head and dragged him away.
Instead of making his way to the exit, Rex veered toward—the rows of bulletin boards, dragging the lifeless corpse behind him. The sound of dead flesh scraping against the wooden floor filled the entire hall, sharp and unnerving, slicing through the din of people like a blade.
Seeing Rex approaching, the crowd parted in his wake—fear etched into their wide-eyed faces.
Whispers rippled through the room, voices hushed and trembling.
Some were on Rex’s side while others were not but Rex didn’t care about their thoughts.
Behind him where he passed, a bloodied trail followed.
Rex’s expression remained impassive as he finally reached the boards and reached out, his fingers tore a mission parchment. He gave it a cursory glance before nodding inwardly. With the parchment in his hand, he then made his way again.
This time, he went to the receptionist’s desk.

He stopped in front of a receptionist, a young woman with trembling hands and pale brown hair.
Not even saying anything, Rex placed the parchment onto the desk.
“I want to report completion for this mission, here’s the proof,” Rex placed the corpse on the table.
Just as he said that—a man with spiky black hair wearing a silken robe with the insignia of another clan or faction, grabbed Rex’s shoulder from behind. His life energy, shaded with a deep blue color sizzled from his body, “You must be new here but killing is not condoned here,”
Rex didn’t turn to meet the man’s eyes, he simply kept looking at the receptionist.
“I didn’t kill, I’m completing a mission” He answered as he tapped on the parchment.
Seeing that the time limit from the System was extremely tight, Rex already searched for a way to make his action justifiable. Through the System’s scanning feature, he found that one of the posted quests was the killing of that burly man.
Once he knew that, he wasted no time to kill the man.
Upon hearing what Rex said, the onlookers burst into hushed whispers.
“Is there really a quest to kill that guy?”
“Yes, it has been posted there for more than one year”
“If that’s the case, why hasn’t anyone accepted that quest? That guy doesn’t look that formidable”
“He’s not formidable but he’s a part of the Rising Falcon Group, they have a fierce reputation here”
“Oh, I see…”
Ignoring the whispers from the others, the man clutched Rex’s shoulder harder.
“Even so, you still kill here,” the man argued. “You should’ve had the decency to kill him outside”
Rex’s expression was sour—his patience was running thin.
Noticing the change in his air, a replica of when he was about to engage in a bloody battle where he let loose of everything, Linthia quickly rushed towards them. She squeezed herself between them, pushing the man back gently,
She then made a slight bow, “We’re sorry for causing trouble. Can you please let it pass this one time?”
Upon hearing this, the man frowned—there was no intention of him to drop this.
Even his ten friends sitting in the inn area stood up, ready to help if a fight really did break out.
Just then, however, a well-built man with a sleek blue hair stepped forward—and intervened, “Come on now, Derek. It’s not the gentleman’s fault when that muscle head started it. Besides, that man has a bounty on his head, there’s nothing wrong with killing him here like that. Besides…”
He spread his arms, turning to the onlookers, “All of us are here for money, you can’t blame the man.”
Glancing at the man, Derek squinted his eyes.
On the man’s chest was the emblem of a horned lion, causing Derek’s face to fall.
Reluctantly, he clicked his tongue in displeasure before heading back to his friends.
Rex noted Derek’s reaction in his mind, the horned lion crest must belong to a powerful faction nearby if Derek walked away—as easily as that. Pivoting back to the receptionist, he raised an eyebrow, “So? Are you going to sit there all day or register my quest completion?”
Snapping out of her daze, the receptionist quickly moved her hands.
<Killing Intent quest completed!>
<10 White Nightfall Stars have been rewarded!>
Completing the killing intent quest only rewarded him a little, it wasn’t worth it.
“Do we need a license or something?” Rex asked, averting his attention back to the present.
Linthia shook her head, “Anyone could become a Walker. There’s one requirement—and that is to have a Seeker in the group but since I’m a Seeker, we could ignore that. Once we finish three quests, we will be eligible to be assessed and given our licenses”
It was quite a simple process.
Considering the people here, Rex wasn’t surprised by this procedure.
Assessing weak people who would die easily would be too costly so this made sense.
“I’m sad,” A voice suddenly seeped into their ears from the side—as the man with the horned lion crest leaned over the desk to look at them. “Not even a thank you? That guy is from the Liora House, quite a strong house with people who could be a pain in the ass if they wanted to pursue you. Not to mention, the man you killed also came from the Rising Falcon Group, another reputable group”
Linthia glanced over to Rex and found that he didn’t have any intention to answer.
Seeing this, she also kept her lips sealed.
Once the receptionist gave him five gold spirit coins—and dealt with the corpse, Rex headed for the bulletin boards once again. He scanned the quests and took a kill quest to start. Upon registering for the quest, he walked out instantly and headed out of Arbitgea.
All this while, the man kept following him nonchalantly.
He was not welcomed, that was clear already—but he didn’t seem to be bothered by it.
“Since I helped you, I doubt both houses are going to pursue you so shouldn’t you at least hear me out?”
“I won’t need to keep following you if you at least hear me out”
“Come on, I know you want to. You’ll gain money, some fun, and also status!”
As soon as he said that, Rex suddenly stopped dead in his tracks.
Just the word ‘status’ was enough to pick his interest, that was what he needed the most right now.
“One minute,” Rex pivoted towards the man and said with a stern voice. “I’ll give you one minute”
“Sweet! Don’t worry, you’ll not regret it!” the man cheered.
Despite having a rough appearance physique-wise, showing that he wasn’t someone new to the bad side of the world as visible scars were marring across his body, the man was surprisingly cheerful and quite energetic.
“I’m a recruiter,” He confessed, clasping his hands together. “Since you’re strong, I’m going to offer you a one-time job for the Arcalen House. I’m sure you’ve heard of us. We’ll give you one thousand gold spirit coins as payment, what do you think?”
