Chapter 1401 Something Hiding

Kyran didn’t know where he was and who he was dealing with.

But knowing Rex’s past, and also the uniform Lieutenant Beard was wearing, he must be in the military base Rex was stationed on—the Noob Box. Not much was known about him at this time but from Edward, Kyran knew that the time spent here was not funm.

Even Edward, who was relatively open to questions, was reluctant to talk about this.

All Kyran knew was that Rex, Edward, and someone else had been selected, and trained for the same task. Judging by his surroundings, Kyran realized he must be reliving that time—a time so brutal that Rex’s soul carried it as deep-seated trauma.

It must be the case as Lieutenant Beard seemed to be a ruthless person.

“Since I heard you hated the Werewolves so much, let’s take this up a notch…” He said.

Upon hearing this, Kyran felt his body stiffened automatically.

And Lieutenant Beard’s smile could be felt even though he was standing directly behind.

“Do you know about Ingrak City…?” Lieutenant Beard whispered.

Almost instantly, Kyran retaliated, attempting to break free, “No… No!” He shouted weakly.

Despite Rex’s clear, distress, Lieutenant Beard dismissed it with cold indifference. In fact, he seemed to relish Rex’s despair. “Two packs of Werewolves scaled the walls—and committed unspeakable atrocities—in Ingrak City, turning it into their stronghold. And I have some sway with the officer stationed there…”

“Your punishment will be this, I will have my men sneak into Ingrak City, and leave criminals on the Werewolves’ doorsteps—the number of criminals would depend on how many times you squeal. You don’t want the Werewolves to get stronger, do you?” He added evilly.

Kyran was taken aback when he heard this.

He could feel his blood boiling as strength came back to him.

Naturally, he tried to break free from the iron chains but that was simply impossible.

All Kyran was capable of doing was pulling on the chains, causing the skin around his wrist to break and bleed. Seeing him struggle made Lieutenant Beard burst into humorous laughter, it was a sight to see, and his psychotic eyes gleamed with malice.

“Grit your teeth, Rex. Let’s get this started,” Lieutenant Beard said and readied his whip.

Pah!

“Grgghk!!” Kyran gritted his teeth but his hiss seeped through his teeth. S~eaʀᴄh the NovelFull.net* website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Even though he was ready, the whip was too painful to endure—the sharp shells were lethal.

“Oh, that’s one criminal!” Lieutenant Beard laughed.

Pah!

Pah!

Pah!

“Raarggh!!”

“Two!”

Pah!

“Grraargghk!!”

“HAHAHA~! Three! Do you get it now? I’m your God, never go against me again!”

Kyran now realized why Rex—or even Edward was reluctant to speak of this time, there was only darkness in this time. Not a glimpse of the light—was allowed to seep in here, it was an unending pain and misery.

Both of them were thrown into the most heartless and bloody regime of the military.

In this place, they were nothing more than animals that needed to be trained.

Every whip might be endured by Rex physically but Kyran’s soul was screaming every time.

Meanwhile, above the trench, Mavenna who was watching from the side frowned.

She went over to the trench and looked down with concern plastered across her face.

“Leave him, it’s his choice” Elder Tilrith suddenly said.

Upon hearing this, Mavenna glanced over to her with an evident frown on her face, “His soul power was diminishing rapidly even though it hasn’t been that long, I’m afraid he’s not going to succeed. Let’s pull him out”

“He said that he would tell me if he’s in trouble, be patient” Elder Tilrith shook her head.

Kyran understood the risk and he would surrender if it became too much.

But even then, Mavenna was still worried.

Even though she didn’t know Kyran and in fact, was annoyed by him, it wasn’t her style to see someone die, from having their soul, shattered. It was the most painful death, anyone could suffer.

A soul is very delicate and fragile but above all, it is sensitive to any sensation it feels.

Due to that, if someone was killed by their soul, the pain was unimaginable.

Looking at Rex, she found him unresponsive.

Seeing that nobody was on her side, Mavenna clicked her tongue in displeasure and faced the trench again. She channeled her succubus’ power and fired pinkish beefy strings, from her fingertips.

“Mavenna! Don’t meddle!” Elder Tilrith warned.

However, Mavenna didn’t care and reached into Kyran inside the darkness of the trench.

Soon, the strings found Kyran and instantly enveloped him.

Mavenna fused her soul’s energy into the strings and pumped it into Kyran, she was going to enhance Kyran’s soul with her soul to help him survive the trauma. She was also a Succubus, she didn’t need a soul and could easily replenish it whenever she wanted.

Once she did that, Kyran’s soul power returned and stabilized.

But Mavenna needs to constantly help him as the downside.

Instead of Kyran alone, Mavenna was now involved.

Elder Tilrith could only shake her head from behind, “You really like to get in the way…”

Hours passed.

Now with Mavenna’s help, Kyran could endure longer and went through more episodes.

It was an unending stream of traumatic episodes.

But even then—their combined strength was thinning rapidly—soon enough Mavenna would be out of soul power and Kyran would need to face the horror himself again. Despite that—it was evident that their efforts were working.

On the side, the flames engulfing Rex’s projection were now only a fraction of what it was.

Even Rex’s face could now be seen through the flames, and his face was blank.

Iris saw his face and couldn’t help but feel bad, this entire situation was surely uncomfortable for him, as his past was being gauged out, for everyone to see, ‘He did say that he needed to do this so I’m sure he was prepared but still…’

Despite his readiness, opening up for someone like Rex was a hard thing to do.

He lived his life bottling his emotions and using anger as his outlet so he wasn’t used to this at all. It must’ve been a weird and uncomfortable feeling to have his past being displayed to another even though that other person was someone close.

On the other hand, Elder Tilrith inspected Rex’s soul projection.

She nodded when the cracks along his soul were mending, especially around his heart.

‘After this, the outer layer should be cleaned but there’s still one more trench. I could feel it…’

It took another hour before the ground began to shake.

Elder Tilrith, Iris, and Mavenna focused on the massive trench in anticipation.

Once the earthquake reached its peak—forcing everyone to brace themselves to avoid being toppled, Kyran was violently flung from the trench. He was coughed out skyward, leaving the poor Beta disoriented, and gasped for air.

Mavenna flapped her wings and caught him before descending back down.

She laid Kyran down on the ground gently and scanned his soul power.

“How is he? Is he going to be okay?” Iris asked in concern.

“It is bad, his soul is fractured, even with my help,” Mavenna murmured, her gaze fixed on the worst damage, centered around Kyran’s chest, with more cracks spidering across his back. “I don’t think he can go on. If he pushes any further, the risks will be immense”

Upon hearing this, Kyran’s expression ashen, “Isn’t that supposed to be all…?”

He asked Elder Tilrith to merge everything but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Although pushing through the episodes was hard—Kyran pushed through knowing that if he succeeded in going through the episodes, he would’ve solved Rex’s problem. He endured all of the misery with that in mind.

So realizing that it wasn’t all was disheartening.

“No, there is more,” Mavenna replied—before shifting toward Elder Tilrith on the side. “I don’t know why you didn’t incorporate the last trench, he could’ve gone through the last one if you did”

Mavenna’s gaze was sharp, she suspected Elder Tilrith to be plotting something.

In her mind, Elder Tilrith must have saved the worst of Rex’s past intentionally and prevented Kyran from finishing it so that she could do it herself. Knowing the Royal Black Prince’s worst trauma—it would open up a lot of paths for her to play him.

For the Demons, knowing the enemy’s fear would be a death sentence to that enemy.

It was especially so for a Succubus like Elder Tilrith.

But Mavenna thought wrong.

“Such a bold, and baseless accusation,” Elder Tilrith sneered, her lips curling into a smirk, as she cast a disdainful gaze at Mavenna. “I share a certain connection with the prince, and I’m not tasteless. I have standards. As for the last trench, I didn’t merge that one because it was simply unresponsive to my powers”

“Liar,” Mavenna scowled. “you can’t possibly want me to believe that”

As a very high-rank Succubus, calling forth the trauma of a person when the person allowed it was a guarantee. Under no circumstances that Elder Tilrith couldn’t pull that trauma, when she was in this kind of favorable situation.

Instead of answering with words, Elder Tilrith shot her energy forward.

Everyone watched as the beam pierced into the mist.

However, once it reached a certain range, the hell-void energy beam was dispersed.

It wasn’t that Elder Tilrith dispersed it, but it was more like it was dispersed forcefully.

Something hiding beyond the mist was blocking Elder Tilrith’s power.

Upon seeing this, Mavenna was petrified—she was certain that Elder Tilrith was lying but it was proven now that she wasn’t. She really can’t pull the last trench. “But how…?” Mavenna gasped. “The Emperor allowed it so how can your power fail?”

“Want to clear things up, prince?” Elder Tilrith glanced at Rex on the side.

But to everyone’s surprise, Rex also shook his head.

He didn’t know what was going on—he didn’t fight Elder Tilrith’s power back.

“Guess we’ll have to see for ourselves,” Elder Tilrith snickered and stepped into the mist.

Seeing this, Kyran quickly followed right after, he was still going to try and tackle the last one—he reckoned he could do it. Likewise, Iris, Mavenna, and even Rex—followed them. It would be best if they stick together, there was a bad premonition in the air.

Considering that they were inside the projection of Rex’s mind, it shouldn’t be dangerous.

Nothing here was real, the entire place was a fabricated place.

However, for some reason, the group felt right to stick together and exercise carefulness.

Since the other trenches were merged, into one—the space beyond the massive trench was practically empty. It was only a thick mist—with the scent of blood, steel, and gunpowder. In a slow but steady pace, the group went through the thick mist with Elder Tilrith leading.

Kyran, Iris, and Mavenna looked around—trying to spot the last trench.

It should be easy to spot a trench as there was nothing around them, but with the thick mist, that task became harder. Trotting ahead for five minutes straight, Elder Tilrith squinted when her skin brushed past something.

Sensing a brush of cold air, she glanced over her shoulder and saw something.

A translucent wall that the group has now passed.

‘It must be the wall that dispersed my energy earlier,’ Elder Tilrith thought.

Facing forward again, she continued traversing the wasteland.

Despite Elder Tilrith being the only one who saw the translucent barrier the others could feel the air around them turn colder—it was as if they had entered, another section. It made all of them sweat a little.

Going on for a couple of minutes more, Elder Tilrith finally signaled the others to stop.

Kyran, who was right behind her, bumped into her and frowned.

“Why are you stopping?” He asked, slightly annoyed but stopped when he saw something.

Something that barred their path.

It was hard to see what it was, but Kyran could barely make the trench ahead—this one was unlike the others. Instead of boiling steam, this one exuded a suffocating dark aura that was seeping into his very being.

Noticing the trench, Kyran wanted to approach it but Elder Tilrith held him back.

“Stop moving, there’s something here…” She whispered gravely.
