Chapter 1152: Blood Moon Hunter Persona
Knowing that there would not be any threat from those who wanted to tear him down—at the very least until the issues—about the mutated animals’ rampage were taken care of—Rex felt immense liberation, unlike anything he had ever felt.
It felt like he was back on Happiness Street before his biological parents were murdered.
No burdens, no nothing—he felt like a kid again.
Because of that—this battle against the mutated animal puts a bright smile on his face.
A mutated animal, no matter how strong, is in the end only an animal.
Compared to the atrocities and dangers a thinking being could do, this animal is nothing.
Rex was not scared of it, he was liberated by it.
From the expressions he was showing as he battled with the mutated animal—it was obvious to Flunra what he was experiencing right now. His joy and freedom were palpable to see, and that alone made him pity the mutated animal on the other side of the road.
Despite having to achieve the tenth-rank realm, it was faced with the liberated Rex.
“So Rex is happy with this…?” Adhara mused out loud.
Upon hearing her, Flunra nodded, “Yes, for him, this is a much-needed stress reliever”
Adhara could only shake her head as she knew that he was under a lot of stress—even with the Fifthborn defeated. More importantly—he must be choking inside the castle with Evelyn giving him cold shoulders and Calidora clinging onto him.
It made sense why Rex was acting like this when Flunra explained it like this.
“Even then, how do we defeat that thing?” She mused as the dire problem still stands.
Kyran shrugged his shoulders, “We’ll manage somehow,”
Though he said that, Flunra squinted his eyes, staring intently at Rex who was still fighting as they spoke. He frowned—puzzles, swirling inside his mind, “I said that, but what happened to his King Mark? Not even the Royal Black Prince bloodline could give him that power. Surely—even with his state of excitement, that kind of move is impossible, no?”
Flunra noticed the changes that happened to Rex’s King Mark.
Something like that has never been seen before, not even with his vast experiences.
Roar!!
In the heat of the battle, Rex got clipped by a swipe that sent him stumbling down.
Using this opportune moment, the mutated animal blitzed through the ground between them and slammed its foot, on Rex’s chest, pinning him on the ground. Growling menacingly—right before Rex’s face, it followed by biting Rex’s left arm and tearing it off his torso.
Even then, there was no groan or moan coming out of Rex’s mouth.
As the mutated animal leaned its muzzle down, asserting dominance by growling at Rex once again, it was only met with the same maniacal smile. Rex brutally returned the growl from the mutated animal with his own like an animal and slashed his claws.
He hits the side of the mutated animal’s face.
But more than that, his claws were able to tear the mutated animal’s left ear grotesquely.
Unlike Rex, the mutated animal whimpered in pain at that successful strike.
Just when Rex was about to get up and lunged at the mutated animal, its form crackled with unrestrained power—summoning tendrils of flame that danced, and twisted around its form, casting an ominous glow to its entire body.
With a deafening roar, the energy surged to a feverish elevation.
It culminated in a disastrous explosion of searing flames that erupted with primal fury.
Out of desperation to keep Rex away, the mutated animal used a devastating skill that could explode the energy within its form—the blast tore through the air with a brutal intensity that devoured everything in their path, reducing trees to ash.
Adhara and the others were able to keep a safe distance from this explosion.
Meanwhile, Rex was hurled into the dense embrace of the forest.
However, far from being daunted—Rex felt a surge of exhilaration coursing through his veins as he almost instantly recovered and dashed to the side. Even though the flames burned his skin, it healed almost instantly.
On the other hand, the mutated animal quickly dashed to where Rex was thrown into.
It wanted to feast on the annoying creature that disturbed its ascension.
Anticipating a lifeless form, the mutated creature halted abruptly as Rex’s trail vanished mid-track. Frustration etched into its growl before it scanned the area—searching for any sign of Rex’s whereabouts.
Just then, it shook its head, reaching for its left ear which was ripped.
Seems like the damage was deeper than expected as its left ear was ringing continuously.
Moreover, the blood also clogged its ears, further decreasing its ability to hear.
Unlike the regeneration belonging to the Supernatural races—the mutated animal didn’t have that ability as its left ear kept bleeding. But then—it was surprised, when Rex came out of his hiding and struck from its blind spot.
A vicious claw mark was left on its back, oozing with more blood.
Growling, the mutated animal looked to the side and found that Rex already disappeared.
Despite its keen senses, it wasn’t able to find or even sniff Rex’s whereabouts.
It was almost as if that strike earlier was a hallucination—and Rex wasn’t really nearby.
Swoosh…!
Swoosh…!
Before long—the mutated animal began to hear the telltale sounds of rustling leaves, and the snapping of twigs nearby, indicating that Rex was still in the area. Somehow Rex had adeptly evaded the mutated animal’s senses, stealthily circling around it.
Clearly, the mutated animal was riled by these sounds, putting it on edge.
Not waiting for Rex to come out, the mutated animal began frantically attacking aimlessly.
It shot a torrent of fire from its mouth toward any sound it caught.
Anything that got in the path of the fire was burned, but there was no sign of Rex being hit.
Growl!
Following those frantic attacks out of desperation, a growl could be heard from the right, and it was definitely, coming from Rex. Instinctively—the mutated animal pivoted in that direction, aiming to fire another torrent of fire.
However, at that moment, Rex appeared and attacked it from the back.
Casting the Brutal Impulse skill, he landed a hit on the mutated animal’s back squarely.
Not expecting to be attacked from the back when the growl came from its front, the mutated animal emitted a low growl—as its back skin was twisted by the force coming from the Brutal Impulse, propelling it forward several staggering steps.
One of its ribs broke from that hit, and the mutated animal could feel it directly.
It whimpered in pain but still had the fire of determination in its eyes to maul Rex to pieces.
But that same pattern didn’t happen only once.
In less than a minute—Rex managed to plan clean hits with his Brutal Impulse skill, employing the same tactic repeatedly. As he was in his Blood Moon person form, his Brutal Impulse skill, became devastatingly lethal—effortlessly bypassing the mutated animal’s defense.
Additionally, in this form, the Brutal Impulse skill didn’t have any side effects on him.
He could abuse it repeatedly if he wants to.
Looking at this from the side, Adhara, Flunra, and Kyran gasped in utter shock.
Since they were linked to Rex, they could tell where he was throughout the fight, and he was circling the mutated animal with extreme speed akin to a proficient hunter stalking its prey. It was also worth mentioning that his utilization of elements changed drastically.
None of them had ever seen Rex fight like this, it was almost as if he was an animal.
An animal with extreme control over its power.
“His mastery over mana control, I knew that it was high, but not to this extent…”
Kyran who was looking at the same scenery mused in fascination.
Even though he had a very high control over his own energy—because of his ‘training’ in the realm of ice and snow, he would never be able to apply it like Rex did. He was surprised that Rex was able to show this kind of feat.
It was not normal for him to change his fighting style this much.
“What about his mana control? What is it that you sensed, Kyran?” Flunra asked curiously.
Upon hearing this—Kyran’s lips inadvertently curled out of excitement, “I am a Werewolf but aside from that, I am also a Dark Elementalist so I could feel it directly. Rex, he is also a Dark Elementalist, a weak one at that—but that’s not the case. Rex is using his dark elements—to make his furs darker, masking him better from the naked eye”
“He’s also using his wind elements to dampen the sound of his footsteps,” Adhara added.
Gazing at Rex, with a sparkle of mana in her eyes, she continued, “He also used fire elements and wind elements to lower his temperature to further his stealth. Also—seems like the strike he did earlier to the mutated animal’s ear was intentional”
“If you look closely, he always growled from the right side,” She added in awe.
As the mutated animal’s left ear was damaged—Rex always growled or made a recognizable sound directly to the mutated animal’s right so that it could pick up the sound quickly. Then, when the mutated animal’s attention was diverted, he struck from the left.
Since its left ear was damaged, it couldn’t pick up the sound of Rex approaching as normal.
It provides Rex with the chances he needs to strike.
Moreover—the fact that struck the others the most was the fact that even though Rex was weak in other elements, he decided to use it on himself as influencing himself is way easier to do than influencing other objects.
Also, he could maintain all of the mana he controlled while fighting the mutated animal.
He showed an extreme level of mana control.
Even though Rex is a genius in combat, this was another kind of genius.
Rex has never been this resourceful.
As he was before all of this, a human, Rex always opted to take on methods that focused on his close-quarter combat which he was extremely adept at. He also uses several items from his spatial power or even utilizes a combination of his wide array of skills.
Never had he been resourceful enough to utilize this kind of method to fight strong enemies.
It was almost as if he was not the same person.
Roar!!
Several minutes passed, and the mutated animal was not able to do anything against Rex.
Moreover, its body was now riddled with vicious, bleeding wounds.
It was evidently unable to go against Rex, and the mutated animal knows that it couldn’t.
Knowing that its enemy was more than it could handle, the mutated animal exploded with fire again, and bolted away with urgency. Gripped by a tightening fear—with the shadow of Rex’s presence looming in the vicinity, it decided to tuck its tail and flee in submission.
Having to reach the tenth-rank realm, it was not ready to die before savoring it.
Later, when its realm was consolidated, it would come back.
It already marked the location where Rex and the others came from and would seek revenge.
“We must stop it! It’s getting away!” Adhara roared, fuming with power.
Before she could dash away, Flunra stopped her when an echoing howl reverberated.
Upon hearing this, Adhara raised an eyebrow as it definitely came from Rex, but it might be a signal for them to help him in chasing after the mutated animal. However, she was wrong and Flunra knows it.
“No, I don’t think we need to step in,” Flunra said to the others.
Naturally, Adhara and Kyran frowned as they didn’t understand how Flunra came to that.
“Don’t worry, the howl is not a signal for us to help,” He added.
Kyran was the first one to respond to this, “If it’s not a signal, what is it? Rex rarely howls”
“It’s an intimidation display, an assertion of dominance, by Rex,” Flunra replied—gazing to the distance where the mutated animal darted into. “Us Werewolves usually do that, but now, the question is—how did Rex act like that when he didn’t come from a Werewolf background?”
“What happened to him…?” He mused again, confused at Rex’s behavior.
