Chapter 1145: It Is Not Possible
Inside a hospital, the most free out of the hospitals in Dargena City.
Linthia was sitting in the waiting room, and her legs were moving up and down impatiently.
She was not used to being told to wait outside when someone was injured.
Usually, in the Fairy Kingdom, when someone was injured and brought to the healers, she did not have to wait outside like this. She could watch the healing process—and see whether the person injured is going to be fine or not.
But it was completely different in Dargena City.
As the city was built in the likeness of Humans, surely, it was influenced by the Human ways.
Not only the design of the city, but the administrations are also the same.
Frankly speaking, the workers in the hospitals—Supernaturals, and Humans were not used to running and operating a hospital, but they were becoming more adept with how many people were brought there after the war against the Fifthborn.
Aside from the Supernaturals seen passing, the place looked like a normal hospital.
Just then, an Awakened in white attire came out.
Scanning his eyes through the crowd, his eyes landed on Linthia.
Realizing that it was the Awakened, that brought the Orc inside earlier—Linthia quickly stood up, and headed over to him. Eventually, she was brought into his office. Inside the office, she looked at the Awakened demandingly.
Articulating the words to ease the news, the Awakened was silent for a couple of seconds.
Taking a deep breath, he then shared the news, “His condition is not good,”
“What? How come he’s not good? He’s only struck by random debris” Linthia questioned.
Considering that the Orc only got a menial trauma, like that, she was expecting him to be in a good condition after being healed from his injuries. She wasn’t even worried that the Orc was not going to be fine earlier.
Even a low-rank healer should be able to get the Orc back up in no time.
But reality proved otherwise.
Upon hearing this, the Awakened sighed—expecting Linthia to react like this, “We healed his body from the injuries—yes, but he didn’t show any sign of waking up. After we investigated further, we found that his body was contaminated by a high concentration of Chaos energy,”
“Chaos energy…?” Linthia muttered, her brows creased together into a frown.
She was troubled because the battlefield must’ve been filled with remnants of Chaos energy.
It was logical that the Orc was overexposed to Chaos energy.
Now that he was injured—the Chaos energy must’ve spread and caused complications.
“Another individual was tainted by the Chaos energy that sparked from him, so we came to a united decision to refrain from handling his body until his own internal energy could naturally disperse the Chaos energy by itself,” the Awakened elaborated.
Linthia massaged her forehead when she heard this.
‘What do I do now…? Sean should’ve reported back to me about the progress, but he did not. I think something happened to him and the other groups, and the Orc knows what happened there, and now he’s not in a condition where he can tell me’
‘Judging from his tone earlier, something bad happened to them,’
‘But what bad things could’ve happened there? It’s filled only with corpses’
‘Not to mention, Emperor Rex already made sure the Fifthborn stayed dead this time’
‘Should I go there and check for myself?’
‘Ahh… I organized this so that I could do something useful, but now it backfired’
Under her silence, she was stressed inside.
Sean—the Mind Elementalist from the Hester Family that Linthia pointed to lead the groups was now missing—he hasn’t contacted her, and the reason for that must be that something happened to him that made him unable to contact her.
Not to mention, out of all the groups, none of them came back.
Even the Orc was not a part of the initial groups, he must’ve joined the other groups later.
It was a dead-end, and she couldn’t tell anyone about this either.
Going her way to inform Dindora or Gelmar about this, would only result in her being scolded for lacking robust communication channels, with the groups. She would get into trouble—for doing this without them knowing.
Moreover, even if she wanted to tell them, she didn’t know what to say.
Out of everything, she also didn’t know what happened.
“Is there really no way for you to do something so that he could be conscious?” She asked.
Upon hearing this, the Awakened shook his head solemnly, “Despite our efforts to shield, the healer with multiple elemental barriers, the Chaos energy is too strong. Also, the only reason we’re able to heal his injuries was because a healer, a Water Elementalist made a courageous attempt to approach, but the volatile energy lashed out, injuring and corrupting her,”
“If you really want to, then you need someone to make a very sturdy barrier,” He added.
Linthia’s eyes lit up, there’s still hope.
But seeing her sparkling eyes, the Awakened continued, “Someone like Her Highness Gistella or even possibly the Emperor himself would be able to create a strong enough barrier against the Chaos energy”
At the sound of this, Linthia’s shoulders slumped back down again.
Going to ask Gelmar or Dindora is already hard, so asking Gistella or Rex is too much for her.
Seems like this is the way the Awakened told Linthia that it isn’t possible.
“Just keep an eye on him for me, and immediately notify me if he woke up,” Linthia sighed.
The Awakened nodded, “I’ll do that,”
After finding out that the Orc wouldn’t be able to tell her about the bad news he was going to say before, Linthia exited the hospital and gazed skyward. Knowing that the mistake was her—she decided to check the battlefield herself.
Surely, as the organizer, she should take responsibility if something happens.
Meanwhile, back to Rex.
Going down from the city walls, he saw that the cursed creatures were increasing.
Attracted to the sound of fighting, many of them that took the form of animals, poured out of the forest depths endlessly. Seeing this, he sprinted to the forest’s edge. His muscles bulged as he uprooted a towering tree with his bare hands alone.
Putting the tree on his shoulder, he draws blood and creates a reverse pentagram mark on it.
It was the Cursed Pentagram that Flunra taught.
As soon as the pentagram blazed to life, Rex grabbed the tree and swung it at the creatures coming towards him. Each impact sent the cursed creature hurtling through the air akin to a broken kite careening into the surrounding trees or being flung back into the forest.
Unlike the strike from Delta and Ugrok, the cursed creatures didn’t get up after his attack.
Rex made quick work of the others, clearing a bunch in the process.
Only when the space was cleared a bit, Rex made his way to Ugrok and Delta.
Now that the phenomenon subsided, city guards were already barricading the breached wall while Ugrok—and Delta were going on the attack. Spotting Rex, already entrenched in battle, single-handedly dispatching cursed creatures, a wave of relief washed over them.
“Ugrok, if you want to fight the cursed creatures, make this mark first,” Rex said.
He then showed Ugrok how to make the Cursed Pentagram.
After doing that, he pointed at the other city guards, “Go and teach them how to make this,”
Upon hearing this, Ugrok nodded and went to do as he was told.
Meanwhile, as Rex shifted his eyes to Delta, he found her wagging her tail excitedly.
Rex smiled in response and began rubbing her chin aggressively, it had been quite some time since he last saw Delta. She didn’t join the great battle against the Fifthborn and he was glad and relieved that she hadn’t—it would’ve been too dangerous for her.
Compared to the others, Delta was still in the seventh-rank realm.
Even the others who were stronger were vulnerable, so it’s good that she stayed behind.
But he was about to change that right now.
Guiding Delta back into the safety of the city, Rex conjured a protective dome of lunar light.
From his inventory, he retrieved dozens of Passue corpses.
Though it wasn’t morally sound to offer Delta Human and Supernatural remains, Rex couldn’t bring himself to forsake her. He couldn’t take the fallen people and give them to Delta—but it was not a problem for the Passue Corpses.
Before he went back, he made sure to collect the Passue corpses to the last one.
He wanted to give it all to Delta.
Upon seeing the corpses, Delta’s eyes sparkled as she smacked her lips in excitement.
“Did you think that I would forget about you?” Rex asked, patting Delta’s head. “I promised to make you stronger so I’m going to do it. Besides, with the outside world changing, I am really in need of you,”
Just before Rex could say anything more, Delta already went ahead and took a bite.
He wanted to stop Delta, but it was too late.
Crack!
After one bite on the Passue’s corpse, Delta instantly whimpered and pulled back.
Pausing for a second—seemingly trying to feel something in her mouth, Delta turned to face Rex, showcasing that a couple of her fangs, broke. Rex laughed when he saw this, Delta had lost a couple of teeth and looked funny.
Since the Passues were around the eighth to ninth-rank realm, this is to be expected.
Delta wouldn’t be able to munch on them because of the gap in strength.
Not to mention, it was not the Passues’ energy, that rendered them formidable, but rather—it was their physiques instead—crafted from resilient materials akin to steel. Surely, because of the tough steel skin, Delta wouldn’t be able to crush it easily with her fangs.
Losing several fangs, Delta’s eyes were teary as she looked at Rex for help.
This made Rex chuckle even more before tapping her head.
“Now you know that it’s important to be patient,” Rex teased and went over to the corpses.
Purchasing a big bowl from the shop, he placed it down, and filled it with the Passue corpses to the brim. Following that, he placed his hand on the bowl, covering the entire thing with his red force, creating some sort of a lid.
Following that, he pressed the red force lid with all his might, crushing the Passue corpses.
Only physical prowess could take down a Passue.
Even in death, the materials they were made of were very resistant to elemental attacks.
Rex needed to do this a couple of times before the Passue Corpses were turned into nothing but steel dust. Only then, did he signal for Delta to proceed. Carefully, Delta began to devour the entire bowl, getting stronger in the process.
Naturally, she would need time to process the gained energy, but it shouldn’t take long.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Rex thought of something.
Taking out another Passue corpse, he held it up and inspected it, “Hmm, can replicate this?”
“I probably could with the help of the System, but even then, what sort of material is this? It’s remarkably sturdy, against energy. Aside from replicating it, I could use this material, to make armor,” He mused to himself, intrigued by the composition of the Passue’ss remains.
Also, he didn’t forget the notification that appeared when he saw the Passue Matriarch.
He knew that the Passue Matriarch belonged to the previous owner of the System.
It was the Supreme One that created her.
Just then, a frown appeared when he realized something odd.
Hold on a moment, the Supreme One was the previous owner of the System. Does that imply he’s also a Werewolf? No, that’s not possible. Everyone that spoke of him describes him as a Human. Specifically, an Ancient Human, and an Emperor nonetheless.
Rex was second-guessing whether the Supreme One was a Human or not.
But since he’s the previous owner, then he must not be Human as ridiculous as that sounds.
As Rex’s mind grappled with the realization that there was something wrong—about the one called Supeme One—he snapped out of his daze instantly when the ground shook. “Another phenomenon?” He muttered in reflex, but then he realized that it was not.
“No, it came from above the ground. This energy, where did it come from?!” Rex exclaimed.
Sprinting outside again, he found Ugrok was looking into the forest.
Gazing at the far distance, Rex squinted his eyes as the energy came from the forest.
ROAR!!
Swoosh!
Just then, his eyes widened seeing a wave of energy that blasted out of the forest.
Due to the speed of this wave of energy—he couldn’t react in time and got slammed into the castle walls. He felt the wind get knocked out of his lungs from the impact, and as he looked up, his frown deepened, “What was that…?”
