The Innkeeper

Chapter 2515: Radical ideas

  • Next Chapter

Before leaving the cavern, Lex toured the whole place one more time to see if he missed anything. The strange, unknown ore in this place made it so that his spirit sense was unreliable which is why he needed to see everything for himself.

The process revealed quite a few more warehouses where creatures were experimented on, as well as a small, makeshift home which once again indicated that whoever was visiting was clearly not humanoid.

Lex grabbed one of the loose ore pieces and brought it back with him. It made sense that Lex had been unable to recognise it for he wasn’t necessarily an expert in metal ores, but there was surely someone in the universe who would recognise it. Its features to completely hide things from detection was incredibly useful. If nothing else, Geeves could make a great suit out of it.

Once he left the cavern, Lex did not immediately return to the Inn. The new ability, Realm Flattery, originally merely allowed Lex to see the preferences of realms. It would allow him to see what actions got him better responses, and which would cause him to coincidentally run into a once-in-a-lifetime disaster.

That, however, was only the surface level use of the ability. Just as he could locate this point of the realm which had great hostility towards him, he could see many areas which were incredibly inviting to him.

Lex teleported over to the place which showed the greatest affinity with him and discovered a piece of Amber Chaos resin that he had never known about. That caused Lex to blink. It couldn’t be this easy to find treasures, could it? Wouldn’t that make all Sovereigns incredible treasure hunters?

He teleported over to the next area and discovered a region filled with a certain type of mineral that had excellent healing and anti-bacterial properties. That didn’t seem like a big deal, but when taken into account how difficult it was to find resources that had any medicinal effect on Celestial Immortals at all, the value of these minerals became self-evident.

Another area revealed a pond with holy properties. That was it - the water inside it was holy, without any other qualities, and that made it absolutely supremely valuable!

The incredible thing was that there were countless such places all over the Midnight realm, and the more that Lex found them, the more he learned how to effectively use Realm Flattery to preempt the value of whatever it was he would find.

He also discovered another thing. These were areas inside the Inn which had great affinity with him, but how exactly would his actions build an affinity with the realm? Since he was testing out this ability, it would do well to test it out completely.

Naturally, the first thing that came to his mind would be to add fertilizer to the realm. But that was easier said than done. Adding fertilizer to the ground simply required him to reach into his space bangle, find a random corpse of a strong enemy he had defeated, and put it in the ground.

Honestly, he generally did not go around with corpses in his ring because he would just hand them over to the turtle for effective fertilization uses. But that was the theory. So then what could he do to fertilize the realm?

Lex opened up his system panel and looked at the progress in the Midnight Realm Management panel. He’d previously made as many changes as he was allowed, but the speed at which the realm had grown allowed those changes to be completed ahead of schedule. Now he could make a few more changes, but would that raise his personal affinity, or simply benefit the realm itself?

To test it out rather than leave things as a guess, he found the change which could take place the quickest.

One with Nature I

Make the realm more suitable for the birth, growth and development of plants. The increase is 0.0001%.

This was an iterative improvement which could be made repeatedly, and it cost merely 2000 MT. Every iterative version would, however, cost more.

The reason this change would take place quickly, and was so cheap, was because the realm was already a great place for plant growth owing to the laws related to Heavenly trees - not to mention the influence of the turtle and its planting over so many years.

He immediately selected the option and observed how it affected realm affinities. It made no difference whatsoever - towards him or the system, even when the changes began to take place.

Lex narrowed his eyes and had another idea.

"Lotus, how’s your growth going?" Lex asked even as he sensed it for himself. "What’s the update on Regal Embrace?"

Lotus did not immediately respond, for it seemed to be drowsy.

"I... I’ve been receiving immense feedback from the recent growth of the realm," Lotus responded, though it sounded tired. "But the realm has grown too fast, and my own growth has not kept up. Regal Embrace has helped - a lot. It was only after I started cultivating it that I realized that I wasn’t properly and completely fused with the realm - only a part of it.

"If I can completely master Regal Embrace, perfect my fusion and properly unlock my other abilities then I might be able to... turn this realm into a holy land for Primordial Lotuses."

Lex nodded. It was slightly concerning to hear that Lotus hadn’t realized such a thing, but since Regal Embrace made up for his weaknesses, that was good.

"I think the main problem is that you yourself have never really cultivated. Your power and strength are innate, and come mainly from the world, and now the realm that you are fused with. The problem is... based on what I know, your species does not adhere to typical cultivation realms, and this is exactly how it’s supposed to be, but you haven’t had enough time to properly fuse with the realm before it started to grow."

Ordinarily, a World Seed Lotus would grow into its power over the span of billions of years - not millions - while its world grew. Lex could only imagine how long it should take for it to fuse with a realm under ordinary circumstances. But Lex wasn’t really a fan of doing things the ordinary way.

Lex tossed the Amber Chaos resin up in the air and caught it once more as a radical idea began to develop in his mind, as well as a goal. After looking at all the treasures over here, he didn’t feel right that all the treasures that developed in his realm were restricted to the Celestial realm. Why not... push the Midnight realm all the way to maturity before the universe matured as well?
