The Innkeeper
Chapter 2437: Axe’s descent
Lex was hurt. He was genuinely hurt because at this point, he and Daekol were trading blows without holding back, and neither had the ability to dodge. They could only defend. Daekol kept taking on tremendous debt from his system to heal himself, while Lex relied on his excessive healing capability to keep recovering from the damage he suffered.
Even now, both of them were managing to keep pace with each other, despite doing so through incredibly different ways.
Daekol couldn’t make sense of it. He was a system user, a peak Celestial, a Sovereign, a Lord in Arch-Heaven and a champion of the Path of Chaos. His identity was so unique, there may never be another who could match him. It seemed impossible for anyone else to match him in his own cultivation realm, so then how could Lex do as much while he still technically wasn’t even a Celestial Immortal yet?
Meanwhile, Lex too had to admit that Daekol was genuinely an impressive opponent. Considering that he was still in his Dragon-Lex form, admitting as much was truly an incredible feat. To be able to keep up with Lex despite all the advantages he had was incredibly impressive.
It would have been incredible if they had not met as enemies. It was not often that Lex found someone who could go toe to toe with him. Unfortunately for Daekol, his greed got the better of him, and Lex wasn’t about to show any undue mercy.
Not to mention, at this point, Lex probably couldn’t show any mercy even if he wanted to. His doppelganger had told him that the average Dao Body tribulation was pretty easy. Considering that they had delayed his tribulation, it should be somewhat harder. Lex was actually prepared for that.
He was not, however, prepared for his two tribulations to fuse together to form something entirely new and completely unheard of. Suffice to say that no one in the history of history had attempted a Dao Body tribulation at the same time as a Major tribulation to the Celestial realm, if only because most who attempted to create a Dao Body were at the peak of the Celestial Immortal realm.
The few who weren’t at the peak... were at level 8 Celestial Immortal realm. There were no others, until Lex. Only he was crazy enough to attempt something like that and somehow survive the process.
Though Lex’s eyes could not see beyond the egg shell, his spirit sense reached out towards the sky, where Pangu’s visage was beginning to appear. Many had tried to learn more about the memory upon which this tribulation was based. There was finally an opportunity for them to do so now.
While only Eclipse uncovered the massive beings identity from among those who didn’t know, all who could see the tribulation could study everything about the tribulation itself.
Pangu’s massive eye seemed to lock onto Lex, and an intense emotion flashed through them.
The flicker of emotion, alone, was enough. Daekol’s spine shattered within his body, and the ligaments in Lex’s knees ruptured. He was forced out of his Dragon form, bringing him back to his normal human state. Of course, that did not stop him from continuing to breath fire.
The only reason Lex’s defense performed better was because of his partial Primordial Dao Body - the defense and strength of the body itself was entirely irrelevant otherwise.
"Move out of my way, ******. You will not survive my axe," said Pangu as he glared at Lex, his voice suddenly fading as he spoke some name.
Even though Lex’s mouth was busy breathing fire, he did not hesitate to use his spirit to respond.
"Excuse me, massive sir in the sky. If you could just give me five minutes to move, I absolutely will. I’m kind of unable to move as I am right now."
He did not think pleading to the thing would work, but no one could blame him for trying.
"Since you will not move, then DIE!" the massive entity roared, and the eyes turned into that of anger.
The behemoth was too massive to truly see, far larger than what the mere horizon could hold. Yet upon seeing even a fragment of his enormous body, an image of his entire being automatically appeared in the observer’s mind.
Pangu raised his right arm above his head, holding a great axe, radiating a power that caused the universe itself to shudder. Before the axe could properly fall, the visage became smaller, weaker... more reflecting a tribulation of the level that Lex’s strength could actually trigger.
Of course, even so the descending force of that axe far outstripped Lex’s power. Daekol and Lex, both at the same time, felt that death had come knocking.
Daekol screamed, a massive body of a mythic creature suddenly appearing behind him. The creature seemed like it was still alive, but existed in some sort of stasis. Its body faintly gave off the aura of a broken Dao Heart. The creature was half Laoer, meaning it had half the bloodline of a Sage race.
Maybe Daekol had more measures, but he could not summon any of them in time.
At the same time, Lex too summoned his greatest defense. It was a shield made up of everything Lex had ever learned, all condensed together perfectly. It encapsulated his understanding of the laws of fire, of sword intent, of space, of defense itself, of physical strength and so much more. More importantly, it contained the law of karma - and all of Daekol’s karma that he had been able to get his hands on.
Yes, he was not just using Daekol’s body as a shield, he was using his karma too!
Then the axe fell, and honestly, even Lex himself did not know whether he was alive or dead, for with the descent of the axe, everything was extinguished. All light, all thought, all defenses, they all were cut down by the unstoppable axe.
In fact, in the absolute last moment, the Dream realm itself was about to be punctured by the axe, forever suffering permanent damage from that attack, until the Dream Master intervened. She did not stop the axe, only strengthened the Dream realm itself.
As for the area where the axe fell... no one could observe it any longer, for it no longer existed.
Even Daoflix, which had been streaming Lex’s fight even if all viewers had moved away, could not find any trace of the two.
Up in the air, slowly, steadily, the tribulation began to fade, with Pangu’s furious eyes the last thing to go.
